“AN EXCELLENT HOTEL AND GREAT VALUE”
Reviewed 21 October 2013

Returned October 19th after a comfortable week in this well-run hotel during which we were housed, fed and watered with great courtesy by all the staff. Our room (508) was spacious and quiet with a lovely bathroom, flat screen TV, balcony and nice woodland view. Food was varied, lots of good fish and meat from the carvery, extensive salads and deserts well above average. The pears in red wine were amazing.
Drinks were of good quality including the wines served at mealtime especially the red and rosado. The sparkling Cava from the bar was icy and delicious. Contrary to some reports there are pleasant walks to be had along the cliffs and coves and some very beautiful and palatial homes to be admired. This was a nice holiday, walking in the mornings and by the pool in the afternoons enjoying the hot October weather. Thank you to all the staff at this hotel who made our visit so special.

Room Tip: Try for a top floor room with south-facing aspect.

Returned 16th October after a lovely week AI, at the Ola Club Maioris. I have to ask what is wrong with people? Before we left we read the reviews and were a little unsure what to expect because of very mixed reviews. Well we got a lovely smart, clean good sized room, good food, and helpful, friendly, efficient staff.
Our room was in 'B' block no. 231 as I said a good size and spotlessly clean and comfortable except the pillows, definitely need to invest in new pillows ours were very lumpy. Not much of a view but as we had not stayed there before wasn't sure of best rooms. Another couple we talked to e-mailed and requested 'A' block, high floor looking out over the gardens (south facing I think) and that's what they got, perfect they said sunshine on the balcony all day. There are 3 blocks A is over the bar, reception and pool. B is over children's club and games room looking over the pool if in rooms facing west so sun in the pm. and C is over the restaurant overlooking the pool if in a south facing room. Because our stay was in October the sun didn't get onto the pool till lunchtime, that was the only fault, the hotel was in a bad position and late in the season if you wanted the sun all day you had to claim your sunbed early but by afternoon nearly all the pool area was in the sun. Probably works both ways in high summer the shade would be very welcome. Our room was very quiet but we never heard anyone complain about noise around the hotel
Food was good and plentiful. Show cooking at all meals, omelettes choose your own filling and fried eggs for breakfast, and fish, meat and veg lunch and dinner the fish was delicious, salmon, sword fish, perch. Also available soup, salads, and other hot dishes lots of choice. AI guests could help yourself to red, white, or rose wine pop, and beer in the restaurant.
Drinks again a good choice fizzy drinks on tap just help yourself, for other drinks just ask, and good measures as well, also available near the bar are snacks and tea coffee etc. just help yourself.
There is a free bus into Palma and Arenal but can't comment because we didn't use it.
There are 2 supermarkets if you need one. Out the hotel and left up the hill follow the signs, or right out the hotel to the bottom and right again a small shopping area with 2 or 3 bars etc. also this is where you can buy a newspaper.
Didn't use any services in the hotel, thought the safe rental was expensive, would rather pay a little bit extra when booking and have the safe included in the price, better a little from every room, and the safe is there no extra paper work involved, maybe the same thought could be given to Wi-Fi at least in reception are say.
The children's entertainers were great, everyone enjoyed watching the mini disco. All in all a good holiday, thank you, hope to see you again.

Room Tip: Sun and views high floor A block south facing, Sun, C block over pool might be noisy though in high...

We were initially worried about the overbooking problem so we rung the hotel to confirm they had our booking and we would have a room, however on arrival we were told we would have to go to one of the sister hotels, although annoyed what could we do?...Nothing!
However the female receptionist was telling us about the hotel we were going to, she made it sound beautiful, even saying the part of the island is like St Tropez!!....well to be blunt...SHE LIED! The hotel we went to 'The Tomir' was beyond awful. The beds were like rock...food awful...entertainment rubbish. I personally believe that if you are moved to another hotel it should be the same star rating as your booking... The Tomir was a struggling 3* but this is a matter I am taking up with head office as we failed to get a satisfactory solution from the hotel manager (although he is a lovely man and totally understood why we were so annoyed)

The next day, we were picked up and taken back to the Maioris, slightly annoying that they picked us up at 11 but we couldn't get into our rooms until 1 though. We went down to the bar area and were pleasantly surprised by how nice it was (not like the awful reviews made it sound).

ROOMS - The room was basic but nice. Realistically, how long do you spend in the room? The major downside was the aircon and TV. The TV only had one working English channel which was like a news channels, bit rubbish if you are like me and like to watch a bit of tv before going to sleep. The Aircon was absolutely hopeless, it did come on but it didn't do anything so we gave up and just had the balcony door open (went in september so nice evening breeze) I don't think i could have handled it in the height of summer though. Also the bed was pretty hard...and alot of people were getting bad backs :(

FOOD - I'm not a fussy eater at all but I am sure if I was i would always be able to find something. The show cooking is lovely, always nice to see your food being freshly cooked for you. The staff are all really friendly too.

POOL - very clean, always plenty of sunbeds. The Germans do get up early to reserve but there really was no need as there were so many in good places spare every day. The pool is absolutely freezing but you do get used to it.

ENTERTAINMENT - I don't really know where to start.... Firstly, Petar and George are fantastic. They are never too pushy if you don't want to join in, however a lot of people seemed to want to get involved. I've never seen so many people want to do the activites at hotels before. The nightly shows weren't the best. We saw the superhero show and it was one big cringefest. However, the mini disco looked brilliant for the kids. We came to the conclusion that if the show was run by an external team e.g. flamenco, magician etc then the shows were brilliant but the entertainment team ones were a bit cringey.

ALL INCLUSIVE - it was brilliant, you help yourself to soft drinks, throughout the day and night. You have to queue for alcohol but they were generally quite fast.

I think the tip for this hotel is to go out of season, if you can. Reading past reviews it looks like they struggle when completely full. Also the hotel is quite remote, if you like a buzzing atmosphere you definitely won't like the area the hotel is in, although it seems to be up and coming.

All in all, we had a very nice stay at the Maioris despite the first day disaster. If asked if we would return...I am not sure based on the fact that the overbooking seems to be very frequent. I would want some guarantee that it doesn't happen again.

If you do go and get caught up in the overbooking problem refuse to go to the Tomir!!

Room Tip: We were in block B - 427, ask to be high up with a pool view

My wife and I have just returned from staying in this hotel. Before our holiday we sent an email requesting twin beds, soft mattress and pool view and were delighted to find that we got what we had asked for. All of the staff are very friendly and there was a good atmosphere. The staff at reception were very efficient and helpful. The room was nice, cleaner was efficient, towels and sheets kept fresh. The food was good: compliments to the chefs. Plenty of sun loungers, so no competition there. The waiters/waitresses and bar staff were super efficient. We really couldn't wish for more. Sleep quality doesn't get a full 5 stars because, like many hotels in Spain, the bed was not sprung but mattress on board but we can appreciate that it would cost a fortune to have super comfortable beds.

Room Tip: If you have any special needs send the hotel an email.
