“Be aware, this hotel overbook and send you to a sister hotel”
Reviewed 1 May 2012 via mobile

We arrived late as our flight was delayed. We had called our agency to inform the hotel of this earlier in the day. When we got to the hotel we were told there was a "problem" with our room. We were given no explanation then or the next day when we went to try and see if the "problem" had resolved itself.

We were sent to a hotel up the road. Had to walk there, ok, not far but far enough in the dark carrying bags. This hotel was the Torre azul which, if you look on trip advisor scores poorly and is not no 1 in Arenal but no 23.

The reception staff were unhelpful and could not have cared less. There attitude was to take it up with our agency.

I would not book at this hotel again. This was not high season either and as I noted we called the hotel to tell them we would be late.

Stayed April 2012

Dear guest,

First of all we want to apologize for the inconvenience caused at your arrival. We would need more details about your booking and travel agency so we can explain what it happened.

The hotel that you mention, it is not our sister hotel.

We beg your pardon once again and thanks to all users to share their reviews online.

Best regards,

Just returned from a 4 night stay at the Mediterranean Bay, the hotel rooms are lovely and the shower brilliant, (watch out for those jets, they reach all sorts of places !!!) the food is very good, normal all inclusive food, but a chef to cook fresh meat or fish, the only downside is the hotel is very quiet, deathly almost. No entertainment at all and you could start drinking at 10 in the morning and not be drunk by 11pm, they serve you small plastic glasses and don't fill them up, we began to feel guilty as we seemed to keep going up to the bar. When your up and about early the bar does not open till 10 so you cant get to the pool unless you open a fire door which we then told off for.Arenal is very tired and packed with Germans, a english sports bar which do a all day English breakfast which is brilliant and worth a trip, apart from that the whole area is in need of a make over, the hotel as i said was lovely but don't go there if there if you want some fun. Last point we did meet (at the sports bar) another couple which were staying at the Palma Bay and as its the sister hotel we went to meet them there, its huge and busy and not like the bad reviews i read, a bonus is they have the same all inclusive bands so you ban eat and drink there, its 5 min walk from the beach. We will not return to areanl as we said its in much need of a overhaul, Forgot to say as its an adult onlt hotel you do get peace and quiet but just a bit to much !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear guest,

Many thanks for sharing your experience online in TripAdvisor. We value your opinion because it helps us to improve our services.

We would like to explain that the hotel offers live music 3 times a week in the evening as entertainment.

Regarding the point of plastic glasses, we are obligated by the decree-law to give plastic glasses in the swimming pool area. Inside the bar and terrace, it is served glass.

We hope to have another opportunity to upgrade your experience in the next future.

Kind regards,

A.Celeste Malenque Pons.

just got back from a 4 day break and was upgraded from the palma bay hotel to the mediterranean bay hotel, rooms are clean and modern, they are a bit small but then if your going on holiday just to stay in your room all day then whats the point of going away.
on the down side there was not a great choice of food but what there was tasted good.
about 5 min walk down the road there is a british sports bar where just about every football game avalible is on the tv and has a great atmosphere. another good thing with this hotel is that its adults only.

Have just returned from this hotel and will be as fair as I can, we booked this as a late deal with travel republic and got a very good deal,it is an adults only hotel which was a big attraction for us,the hotel is spotlessley clean every where,we had a very nice room,we upgraded to a junior suite which was lovely, jacuzzi bath, super shower, lovely towels again spotless, we had a bedroom and a sitting room with leather sofa and a flat screen tv, plus two balcony's, did hear a few remark that the rooms are small, cannot comment on that as ours was plenty big enough, so to be sure go for the suite, well worth the extra, only downside had a veiw of a kebab shop and several blocks of flats, we were on the third floor and had no problem with noise at all, very nice dining room, again spotless, proper tablecloths and napkins! I found the food lovely, I'm a huge fish lover and had lots of fish everyday, beautifully cooked and tasty, so I was very happy, my husband on the other hand hates fish and his selection was quite limited, an awful lot of pork and chicken, occasionally veal which neither of us will touch due to ethical reasons, and during the week we were there no lamb or beef, did have a lovely salad bar with lots of assortment, the usual pasta with sauces, wine beer and soft drinks on tap, the breakfast was very good, cereals, cold platter and a very good cooked.Pudding pretty much the same as most all inclusive, creme caramel, blancmange, ice cream plus the little cakes that pop up everywhere, a lovely selection of fresh fruit ie melon, pinapple, kiwis ect, you wont go hungry and all presented attractively, they also do a lovely picnic, lots of assortment and a huge amount, just ask at reception the day before. only moan I did have was we arrived at just before midnight and asked if there was any drinks available ie tea coffee, there wasnt so asked for a bottle of water as we had our own kettle ect, was told couldnt have water, drink from the tap in your room, my husband did and was sick, with such lovely rooms and also a four star is it to much to ask for a bottle of water to be popped in the fridge in your room, especially when you are expecting guests to arrive late!! or what about tea and coffe facilities in the rooms, you provided a fridge.
Anyhow all public areas are very clean and comfortable, floors gleam! furniture attractive and comfy, nice pool with quality sunbeds, also there is a jacuzzi pool and a sauna, small bar with got very busy at times, especially when the barman had to collect glasses, wash them up and serve on his own,but this didnt detract from our enjoyment at all, what was disappointing was the entertainment or lack off it,nothing at all during the day and during our weeks stay was only one evenings entertainment,it was an organ player/singer, sorry to have to say but was pretty grim,he spoke no english and am afraid the whole evenings entertainment was geared to the german guests,I dont want neither do I expect Bingo, Kareoke ect, just a couple more nights and an equal share, not just for german guests, the tv was the same, we did pay for a remote but wasnt really worth it as only eurosport, cnn, and the news, plenty for german guests! also a lot of the staff had no understanding of english which at times made things very difficult, and must admit at times felt like an outsider, this hotel is aimed at german guests, ie entertainment, language spoke at hotel ect, but if you are happy to take money from us brits, then please cater for us as well.
So all in all, a lovely modern clean comfortable hotel, adults only, good food, lacking in entertainment, english speaking staff, which is sadly the only reason we will not be returning, sort this out and we would happily return and recommend

Room Tip: Rooms on third floor appear to be quiter, ask for a decent view,we got fed up looking at the kebab s...

We stayed here for 3 nights before a Med. cruise. The hotel is very modern and our bedroom was well furnished, but the bed was a bit hard. However we did suffer at night from inconsiderate guests who had no consideration for others. I should point out NOT the hotels fault!
Our all inclusive deal was good value with a good food selection and a well stocked bar which was appreciated! The staff on reception and in the bar were very helpful and while the hotel is not in the best location, it is only a short walk to the sea front. The bus stop into Palma is just around the corner.
Arenal has improved immeasurably since our last visit. The seafront is very good with lots of places to drink and eat as well as loos all along the promenade.
