Mediterranean Bay Hotel
Ranked #3 of 44 Hotels in El Arenal
Reviewed 2 July 2012

Stayed at this hotel for 6 nights, got moved from the Blue Bay. Overall a very fun and memorable holiday but wouldnt go back to this resort!!!!

++THE GOOD++
-Hotel lovely, clean
-Rooms - good size, shower amazing
-Food lots of choice at breakfast, lunch and dinner. We always found something we liked
-PEDRO PEDRO PEDRO - He kept charge of the resturant, very good if he werent there it would all go to pot
-LAURA receptionist very helpful and spoke the best English there
-MIGEL the bar man gave the best drinks and understood if you were getting a drink for someone else so allowed two drinks at once!

++THE BAD++
-NO ONE spoke fluent English so always a drama when trying to sort something which then meant the staff had VERY VERY VERY bad customer service!!
-Location - Central but in a resort full on 14yr German kids partying until 7am.
-All inclusive snacks consisted of a cheese and ham sandwich, the drinks were good but had stupid rules on how many you can get at certain times.
-Maids would just barg in your room without knocking! Also reguarly forgot to give towels
-At the bar English people always served last behind Spanish even if you were there first
-Entertainment was nothing special - Our friend was better entertainment than the hotels.....
-Air con would not stay on so hot then cold hot then cold.

Room Tip: Higher floor not near the bar!

My partner and I chose this hotel after reading great reviews on Tripadvisor ranking it the number one hotel in Arenal, it was said to be 'on the beach', described as 'romantic' and had a four star hotel rating. We were sorely disappointed when we checked in and received a dingy tiny room with two single beds on the first floor located behind the reception and next to service lifts with a balcony view of a tin shed roof and kebab shop. I went back to the receptionist and told her we had requested a double bed when making the reservation. She told me I didn't but that I could pay for an upgrade. Choosing not to argue, I just paid extra for the upgrade and we were given a suite on the fourth floor. The room was more spacious but the AC in the bedroom did not work and smelled funny and the drain in the bathtub was broken. We were not told at check in that you had to pay a 20 euro deposit for the remote control to the TV and had to pay daily to use the safe in the room. This was not expected from a four star establishment.

As for the food buffet, we paid for half board as we planned to spend all day on the beach (which was about a five minute walk down the hill on a street lined with ugly kebab shops, please note: this hotel is NOT 'on the beach'). At dinner we were asked what we'd like to drink and requested only water. When we received a bill at the end of our meal for 4 euro we asked why and were told drinks are not included with dinner for half board, not even water. At breakfast we were allowed to have drinks, but the juices were reminiscent of Sunny D and the scrambled eggs tasted like plastic. The next dinner we had to look forward to recycled potatoes from the breakfast meal and slimy fish with recycled pasta from the night before. We resorted to eating salad, bread and soggy chips for the rest of our stay.

To sum it up service was deplorable, the location is far from ideal, and the rooms and food leave so much to be desired. Please do not stay here.

Room Tip: No rooms have good views. One side of hotel faces another hotel and the other side faces the street...

Dear guest,

We would like to thank you for sharing your review online.

Also we would like to explain that we do not advertise our hotel as “on the beach”. We recommend you to visit our home page where it is explain that the hotel is located at 100 mts from the beach. All travel agencies and tour operators must know this information.

Regarding your request about double bed, we would need more details about your booking to check if your travel agency had informed us about it.

Reference to the drinks at meals times, the majority hotels does not included drinks with the half board. Our tour operators and travel agencies know that the price of half board do not include the drinks.

We beg your pardon for all these inconveniences and we hope to have another opportunity to upgrade your experience in the next future.

Kind regards,

A.Celeste Malenque Pons.

Stayed for a week in this hotel in june, we had booked in at the blue bay and was moved here on arrival. Got here at 11pm so missed any chance of food/drink. Had to go out and fend for ourselves, not nice when all the resort is full of drunken youths. Food is ok but lunch is more appealing than diner, Pedro runs the restaurant smoothly making tables available quickly. Miguel in the bar is a top fella always smiling and happy. The otherone roberto need to get out more and develope a personality.
Staff seem to be selective when they speak english, no pool bar so you have to dress to get a drink, god knows what snacks there were coz they dont advertise that they do any around the bar. The maids just walkin your room so make sure you lock you door or it could be embarrasing.
This is the only all inclusive that i've stayed in that cut your bands off at 12:00 on day of departure. Dont expect custumer service with a smile.

I was in a pary of 15 ladies for a "Special" girly break.
Non of us were impressed with the at the bar service. We felt that we were being discriminated against for being both Women and British.
Although we had paid for Fully Inclusive what we got was at best full board
Only after protesting about the service did we receive the service that we felt we were entitled to.

If you are British and want a good deal DON'T goto the Mediterranean Bay Hotel

.

Dear guest,

We want to apologize for the inconvenience caused at the bar. As we have explained before to another review related with the same ladies group, our hotel team does not discriminate any kind of nationality, religion, female or male.

It was a misunderstood about the service booked but not discrimination for nationalities.

Many thanks for sharing your experience online and feel free to contact us by email for any further assistance.

Kind regards,

Arrived at the hotel all 15 ladies on a Girlie Holiday! You cannot check in until 2pm, so the receptionist told us to go for lunch and we could check in after lunch. Returned to check in at 2pm the rooms where not ready, had to wait until 4pm.
Rooms are as described and as pictures above, the beds are hard however not uncomfortable. Food on a buffet basis, plenty of fish and fresh salad. - Overall accomodation very good.
The problems arose when our party went to get drinks in the evening, one drink per person for some of the party others could get 2-4 drinks. However other guests of different nationalities did not have any problems at all. We had to in the end complain to the Food & Beverage Manager who sorted the problem promptly and we received an apology.

Room Tip: The rooms are small, if staying for a few days this is not a problem, ask for higher floors, as some...

I stayed there with my girlfriend at the beginning of June after a long trip started in Ibiza and Formentera. The hotel is nice, an old building, but well renovated. There are some terrible rooms, concerning the view. I say, some of them are near the reception, which is on the first floor and our room was in the second floor and the view was on the banner of the Hotel. It was embarassing go to the balcony!!! The restyling of the room is ok.
The breakfast is not to bad. There's also a chef which prepares instantly for you a good omelette with cheese.
A negative point is that if you want to use the safe box you have to pay per day. And also they give the pilot after have received a deposit. And they doesn't propose the pilot to us during our check-in.
From outside it's a very nice 4 star hotel, but the time you get inside, they doesn't give you the best service you deserve.
The location is not the best, because to reach the hotel you have to climb litterally a street and is a little far from bus stops, but in the front of the hotel there's the taxi rank.
A good thing to say: take a look about prices, because I received a good offer and I payed a very competitive rate. But now I think that the offer was for one of the worst rooms they have.

Myself and partner spent 8 nights here at the beginning of May. We arrived at 11pm ...cut off time for all inclusive. I asked before arriving if there would be some food on arrival and was very pleased that they had prepared a cold meat salad etc plus a few drinks, which made our arrival very relaxing and helped keep off hunger pangs. The hotel is beautiful, the staff are on the whole very friendly and extremely helpful. the food was on some occasions out of this world. I have no idea what people find to moan about except that the sausage and bacon for breakfast isn't English ...well you are in Majorca!!! The fruit bowl was 6 foot high !!! My partner was 60 whilst here and we received a bottle of champagne in our room. people say rooms are small I don't think they're that bad and the shower is amazing!! There is a hill to beach but its not too bad, the beach is very clean plenty of shops bars and restaurants, yet where the hotel is situated its reasonably quiet ...5 mins away from hustle and bustle yet shops close by .We met some lovely people whilst here and I would definitely come back and always recommend to all my friends.
