“Don't expect four star treatment in a two star hotel”
Reviewed 13 August 2013

Having read all the negative reviews about this hotel I felt I had to put my own experience in print. We were absolutely dreading going here but we needn't have worried. First of all, it is only a two star hotel, so don't expect four star treatment. I spent a week here with my sister and cousin from 4th Aug to 11th Aug and we had an absolute ball. Ok, there is no air conditioning, but we were able to hire a fan for ten euros from reception and there was no entertainment but we made our own with the fabulous group of people also at the hotel while we were there. The picture of the pool does not do it justice, it gets the sun for most of the day. The food, although basic was quite nice, breakfast was very basic but as I have said previously, it is only a two star hotel. The bar closes at 11.00 for all inclusive guests but unlike other all inclusive holidays I have been on, we were able to stock up on our drinks, no taking your glass back each time you wanted a drink. Any problems we had were sorted immediately by the staff on reception, one receptionist, a lady in her 40s was exceptionally nice, admittedly the young girl on reception needed a personality transplant, she was rather grumpy and not very helpful, but the rest of the staff were great, a please and thank you goes a long way with them. The hotel is in a great location, a short walk to the promenade away from all the hustle and bustle and any noise at night came from other hotels in the vicinity. We did visit the four star hotel next door one night to sample the entertainment but found it very boring as no one was chatting and looked very bored watching Flamenco dancing, not at all happy like the guests in the Santa Monica. We would definitely stay here again but only if they install air conditioning. I would say to anyone about to go here, you get what you pay for, don't expect four star treatment in a two star hotel and you won't be disappointed. Finally the Sportsman Bar on the front is a place to definitely visit run by a Liverpool guy. If you really don't like the breakfast in the Santa Monica, this pub does a really good full English for four euros, you can even leave your valuables behind the bar while you go to the beach, it has just won an award for Excellence and Best Bar" for 2013.

Just returned from 7 day holiday at this hotel - before reading reviews. Hence we were dreading it! Thankfully our fears were ungrounded, true it's not the best of hotels but then it's 2 star and you get what you pay for. The food was basic, but plenty of it, No restrictions with the drinks from the bar & we doubled up every time we went to the bar no questions asked. Some places I've been to they ask you to take your empty glass before they will give you another (1) drink per person. Dust under our beds but the room itself was very clean, bathroom was spotless and the shower was fantastic. As long as you treat the staff with respect they will go out of their way to please you. No air con but you can hire a fan for 10 euro, and safe for 12 euro. Lot of bad reports about Germans bad behaviour at the pool, but we found if you asked them politely to calm down their antics they were very apologetic. The biggest disappointment was no entertainment, but we met and teamed up with some fantastic people there and made our own entertainment. Want a cheap holiday and this is value for money. Want a great holiday then pay through the nose. Beach is one of the best I've ever known, don't pay 5 euro for the sun loungers, we paid 3.50 euro for lillos - already blown up for you. Took them to the beach every day & had great fun with them in the water. Hotel is only 15 mins from airport so we didn't pay for transfers, 21 euro in taxi, coming home we got the airport bus from the promenade 3.25 euro.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel on main road so pretty noisy. Rooms at the back overlook the (small...

We had read the reviews beforehand and are glad that we did not pay for all inclusive as the food was very basic and unappetising and the drinks were not to best quality or taste. As we went on a bed & breakfast basis, we tried breakfast on the first day to decide for ourselves what the food was like but found that the negative reviews were true and we therefore opted to skip breakfast for the rest of the holiday.
There are many nice restaurants and bars locally which served quality food and drink so we were happy to dine out for lunch and dinner each day. To name one, their is a very nice British Bar named 'The Sportsman' which is just a short walk on the sea front, they serve quality food and drink plus the staff are very welcoming and friendly - Ideal for any football fan wanting to watch live football on the tv.

The hotel location was ok although not ideal as there was a bit of a walk down to the sea front, it was not so bad walking down but the incline on the way back is awkward for the little ones or those with limited mobility. Our 4 year old daughter very rarely managed to walk the full distance and so had to be carried most of the way which is not especially comfortable to do in the baking heat.

The noise in and surrounding the hotel was absolutely ridiculous day and night, do not expect to get any sleep during your stay here, especially if you are situated in a room at the front of the hotel. The drunken young guests mainly German and Spanish were very noisy, banging on doors in the middle of the night, shouting loudly in the corridors, rooms and over the balcony. On a few occasions we even smelt (what we refer to as) wacky backy coming from the balconies of such guests and because we had to leave the balcony doors open due to no air conditioning we ended up getting the strong smell of it coming into our room.
Every night drinkers would stand out on the street with their drunken singing and shouting, this noise would go on til all hours then if that noise is not enough each morning between 6am and 7am (7 days a week) the road sweeper and it's workers come by with leaf/litter blower machines, noise level very high and is impossible not to get woken up by this.

No air conditioning in room was another factor which made it difficult to sleep, we only discovered mid way through our stay that there was a fan available to rent from reception for €10 but it was not the most efficient fan so we still needed to keep the balcony doors open each night.

We were not impressed with the hotel pool as they allowed groups of young lads to dominate the pool with their aggressive pool games, and so the young children such as our 4 year old daughter often got hit by a flying ball. There were also some very selfish people that hogged the sun loungers by placing their towels and inflatables on them, even though they were not intending to occupy them for some duration, leaving many without a place to sit or use the pool area facilities.

The only positive comment we can give about this hotel is that the rooms were cleaned daily, we got clean towels, floors mopped and the cleaners seemed friendly enough when we were around to see them.

Room Tip: Get a room away from the front of hotel if you want to increase your chances of getting any sleep. D...

My partner and I have just come back from a 5night stay in the Santa Monica. Firstly I have to say that we booked before seeing reviews and upon seeing reviews were very worried. However, you have to manage your expectations of what a very cheap 2star hotel is going to be like. The food is catered more for the Germans it is true, but it's a mainly German resort to go to so it makes sense to cater for them. The food is actually quite nice and doesn't really deserve the slating....2STAR HOTEL! The rooms are more than clean enough as they're cleaned every day by very nice cleaners who like the other staff actually are nice and pleasant if you make an effort to do like wise. The pool area and eating areas do need renovating and brightening up that's for sure, and the balconies are a little dodgy regarding safety. As for the lock on the balcony door , well there isn't a chance in hell anybody is going to get on your balcony without killing themselves in the process. It's not the greatest hotel on the world but if you're going to pay so little for an all inclusive holiday you should expect to have to put up with a few minor things.

I tried not to read the reviews before I went but I did and sadly they are all correct. The receptionist was very rude not helpful at all. My partner and myself got placed in a room that was right next to the stairs so we could hear all the noises of people as they came up the stairs. The room was tiny, we were meant to have a double bed but instead was 2 singles pushed together, no air con so we paid €10 for a 'fan' which did not help in the slightest, the lock on the balcony was terrible anyone could of just pushed it hard enough and would of got in. The cleaner was rude also always moody didn't understand a word of English never got our bedsheets changed the week we was there so was pretty pointless even having a cleaner she didn't clean our balcony either. We paid for all inclusive and the food was terrible the breakfast was pretty much for the German tourists so we didnt have breakfast at all while we stayed, dinner was average soups pasta chips etc and supper was the same there was no names beside the food to even say what we were going to be eating either!!!, the pool bar didn't open until 11, the pool was always surrounded by drunk German or Spanish groups that were far too loud kids couldn't even get the chance to play in the pool without getting a ball chucked off of them this is not a family hotel in the slightest. The beach wasn't far away just down a very steep hill may I add. On our last night when we NEEDED sleep some drunken Germans knocked on our doors pretending to be the police. Very understaffed hotel the young lady and man were nice but other two waiters were moody, the man receptionist didn't understand a word of English either! Would not recommend this hotel to anyone. I certainly will not go back.

Currently at hotel and it is a hole!
Food is terrible, electric shocks from the hotplate
Pool has tiles missing so feet all cut
No sleep at all due to heat (no air con) and the noise ALL night
To many bad points to list and few if any good points!

Clean rooms and reception area. Staff were lovely, especially bar staff.main lift was out of order and had to use service lift which was smelly, the only food that tasted nice was the salad, chips, pasta and soup. drinks were great. pool area was nice. the only thing that really annoyed me was the noise from hotel next door and alot of people staying at the santa monica. e.g very loud music, doors getting banged, your room phone getting phoned constantly. overall what do you expect.... its a 2 star hotel, you get what you paid for, its not going to be perfect.

Room Tip: some rooms t.v's dont work, try get one that does.
