Interesting reading comments on this. We 'stayed' here in July 2012. I use the term 'stayed' very loosely as we were transferred to a gorgeous all inclusive 4 star in Palma Nova, before we could experience sleeping on the sofa of the tv lounge!
I can only describe that first day as SHEER HELL. I've stayed budget in the past so know what to expect...not that we even got to see the inside of one of their rooms. We saw the 4 sun loungers- as it was then, the awful lunch buffet, the very dated building. Heard the stories about fighting, noise, police being called daily, people sleeping in corridoors etc. What we saw were at least 20 groups of people being told "you have no room" due to overbooking. Never experienced stress like it but thankfully we were always civil to an ex pat english lady on reception who saw that we were transferred ASAP. Many others were literally trying to climb over reception in a rage of panic. Literally it was THAT bad!!

I only post now as I see many others have had mixed experiences of this place, many are bad. After last summer I'd have expected the place to be brought up to at least a basic standard. ..looks like that hasn't happened.

I would AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE. Seriously folks, this place isn't worth the risk.

I booked this hotel over the phone with ice lolly and it's mine n my boyfriends first holiday together and after reading all the reviews I was pretty much in tears!! ....
But Soon as we walked in we was happy enough, though the staff don't talk much English but they do try and help, the room was basic (who cares you only sleep in it) - they also have speakers in the room if you have a 'jack lead' you can plug in :)
Food was not good at all we ended up having to go out 3/4 nights, We didn't see the need to complain as it's only 2* so you know your not getting nothing special.
Plus the drink is all inclusive so who cares ;)

Bad pointers- there is a minimarket shop right opersit don't go in there the man that owned it followed me with his laptop putting me on screen to people laughing the Dirty ****** ! & there was others that said he had done the same to them aswell,
Also me and my friend had our mobile phones stolen on the beach so don't take your phone and ignore the horrible stuck up reviews if u want a nice cheap all-inclusive holiday you will make the most of it and enjoy it! :D

this hotel was certainly a lesson learned. All inclusive was a joke, the food was terrible. you couldn't even call it food. spam for breakfast which any left over was served in a sauce in the evening. no fruit. no water available at breakfast. stale cereals and uht milk. Forming an orderly queue at every meal!
The room was sort of clean with fresh sheets on arrival but no change of sheets for the week. towells were not refreshed either. on arrival we were stood next to a resident who was asking for extra toilet paper. the view from our balcony was a beautiful green tree displaying used condoms dangling in the sunlight ! one of the banisters on the stairwell was broken the whole stay and on the last day it was removed leaving an open stairwell.. not very safety conscious.
the staff looked miserable and very unapproachable all the time. the bar staff had trouble understanding 'coffee'.
the pool was small and very cold and dirty. 12 sunbeds for the whole hotel which were mostly taken up with towels and not bodies.
the area is obviously for roudy stag/hen parties and for loud people who just wanted to spend their holiday in an alcoholic glaze.
we made light and fun of a bad choice of hotel/destination. we found some very friendly local bars that didn't attempt to rip us off. We had an excellent english breakfast one morning - something we don't normally do on a spanish holiday.
the beach was within walking distance so we escaped to that every day and made the most of our week.

Just back from the santa monica hotel
food at this hotel is very very basic, we where all inclusive and had three evening meals after that we decided to eat out for the rest of the holiday as we spent a lot of time on the beach and did not see the point of rushing back to the hotel to a very basic choice of food. i am not a picky eater i just did not find that much to pick from. never used the pool as there is only thirteen sun loungers and by the time we got there at 8am they were all gone.
staff at this hotel work very hard and have a lot to put up with. i would say if you are going here bring ear plugs as it gets quite noisy during the night when the party animals come back from the nightclubs they then party all night in their rooms.
Met some lovely people during our stay, would i return, if i got it at the right price maybe.
Dont be put of by this review its not too bad just don't expect too much.

It depends what you are looking for.
If you are looking for accommodation only then you can go there. But if you want something more from the hotel, do not go there.
Quality and quantity of food to choose very poor.
Absolutely nothing to do on site.
Pool small and shaded most of the time.
Rooms poor with old equipment but quite clean.
Staff quite friendly but not everyone.
In general I do not recommend this hotel at all.
Fortunately, the El Arenal is a very entertaining place with lots of restaurants and bars so you can always eat something good and have fun.

If you believe all the bad reviews , I think the people who wrote them were picky so this will be a true revue of this hotel . On arrival we were greeted by a polite and nice lady who when I requested it , gave us a room at the back overlooking the pool as this I was told was not as noisy at the front . The room was clean ,spacious with a bathroom not too small .although the bath is only designed to accommodate room to stand for a shower .The usual towel change was fine ,if it was on the floor , it got changed , beds were made every day . The only thing that I did not like was the window boxes which housed dead plants . This was rectified (being a florist) by taking the dead stuff out and putting in artificial flowers which the maids found hilarious . I have a wicked sense of humour . The restaurant food consisted of a very meagre continental breakfast of slices of cheese and meats ,cereals yoghurt, toast and rolls plus drinks and by half way through the week I I wished for at least an egg which appeared in the form of a cold hard boiled one .All lunches and evening meals had soup and a good choice of salads and also a different choice of meat every meal with a selection of chips ,potatoes and veg if you wanted it .The meat was always good in fact what they provided although limited in actual choice was very good Puddings was a bit limited also but nice , a choice of fruit, jelly, flavoured cream type stuff and very occasionally ice cream ( the fridge with it in was always covered up ) However the restaurant itself was dire ,very dark with African totem pole pillars and symbols of the same in murals around the walls the worst was a picture of a very thin lion , not a good image for a place to eat food ,the ceilings had bamboo poles with foliage painted on them which was quite overpowering Drinks were available at the bar . The pool was cleaned every day and although small was adequate for a swim the sun was on it during the day but by 4pm the sun was off it but it was still warm There is not enough pool chairs or sun beds As we went all inclusive I did expect some kind of snacks during the day but nothing is available except crisps which you had to pay 1 euro for .There is no limit to the amount of drinks you can get from the bars( as in some places ) you are issued with a wrist band that you wear all week to signify your status . The bar shut at 11pm on the dot . WE found all the staff polite and if you did try a little bit of the lingo they were fine There was only one lift that worked .As the area of El Arenal appears to be a hive of activity for germans , it definitely caters more for them than any other people and they are really noisy mostly rude and totally arrogant .The hotel offers no entertainment at all but the hotel around the corner has some sort of music on most nights and you can go in this finishes at midnight . The area itself is quite nice, a walk down the street takes you to a steep hill that leads to the beach which is fantastic plenty of shops on the way down and along the sea front also bars The beach has sun beds to hire 16e a day and a bit of shade in places . The sea is lovely and clear and goes out quite a way before you out of depth Fish swim around you in places .Lovely . In all, the hotel is good for a two star hotel and if I went again I would consider it . However I do like hotels nearer to the beach and would prefer a hotel closer This is not a bad hotel and a good base for mostly everything . don't be too put off by all the bad reviews . WE were told that this hotel is due for a revamp next year , Gordon Ramsey would have a field day with the restaurant décor . In all we had a lovely time here and would consider coming again .

Room Tip: ask for a room at the back /overlooking the pool -its less noisy (after midnight)
