Zamora a beautiful town next to the Douro river- plenty of Romanesque churches- a must visit the Cathedral (12 century) , Medieval Castle, Church of Magdalena (13 century),A legendry house of El Cid just stroll around the old part with all the old buildings and have a view at sunset of the city walls on the opposite side of the river.

Romanesque churches, turn of the 20th cent. buildings and a region famous for its wines cannot make up for the feeling one has walking around Zamora that it's more of an old folks' place than a vibrating town. Imho if you want to spend a day visiting Romanesque churches and enjoying good dining and wining, opt for picturesque Toro instead.

Nice town, close to Portugal and not far from larger Spanish cities. Tradition, modern living and relax all in one package.

The town has spent a lot of money restoring many of its old buildings, streets and parks. They've done a good job too, it's a great town to explore on foot at a relaxed pace. Nice shopping streets also, and an hours drive to both Leon and Salamanca.
