I must point out out that this is the only convent I've stayed in but nonetheless it was wonderful. You feel as though you are miles away from the world until you walk across the (semi-scary) bridge (but what an amazing view) into the town of Cuenca. The hotel was elegant but understated - not flashy. The rooms were nice and the pool felt like you were in your backyard with lots of friends. As for service - it wasn't impressive. The paradors are run by the Spanish government and having experienced service from the US government employees I saw no difference. We received our drinks from the bar when they seemed to get around to it and the same in the dining room for breakfast. But the experience definitely made up for a little waiting on our part. Our trip was three years ago so the service could have improved.

This location requires that you cross a fun walking bridge to access town. People are leaving love locks on bridges like this one across Europe...notice as you walk along and add your own for fun? This parador is like others in quality...comfortable beds, top rate showers, satisfying water pressure and bathroom cleanliness. Unique in the quality of carved wood on the headboard, door, shutters, even exposed ceiling beams in the dining room which for many reasons was one of our favorite parador meal. I don't know how they managed to shave pineapple so thin for their dessert with frozen yougart but it tasted like an almost different fruit-YUM! We also enjoyed a drink in the courtyard and were impressed by the hearty peanut and corn nut munchies and the call button (didn't see this at any of the other paradors we visited and it was so helpful and appreciated) The food service was first rate but the menu needs improved English translations as far as grammar and spelling but not regarding understanding of which food you would be ordering. The front desk staff was friendly, helpful and had a better understanding of English than most. The parking is 17E extra is an open lot beside the hotel but up a flight of stairs. Try to get a room that overlooks the gorge -it is breath takingly beautiful.

Room Tip: Room 313 is a long walk down the corridor but it's a corner room with a cross breeze of windows...

The parador is located in a centuries old monastery just outside the medieval centre of Cuenca. The location couldn't be better. We had a perfect room, large, calm, beautifully decorated. Great an friendly staff.

The Parador in Cuenca is overlooking the Gorge and the City is connected by a footbridge.
The service here was average, it is quite touristy so very busy. Parking was difficult, not enough parking spaces. However the rooms were nicely appointed, ours was huge. This is a large Parador, not quite so intimate as the smaller ones.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front overlook the Gorge and the City

Los Paradores de turismo is a superb chain of hotels throughout Spain. Usually, although not always, the hotels are former palaces, castles or monasteries that have been converted to the highest standards. Sometimes the hotels are modern buildings sited to bring luxury to places worthy of a visit. In Cuenca, the Parador is in a renovated convent on the one side of the gorge that splits the old town in two.

The view is fantastic (and many people make the trip just to take photos from the hotel forecourt). But what is best is the hotel itself. The rooms are large, nicely appointed and well maintained. The staff are pleasant, professional and very efficient.

The restaurant meets all the Parador chain's high demands: the wide-ranging menu caters for all tastes and is superbly presented. As usual, the menu features local produce and recipes, as well as those all-time favourites travellers seek. The wine list is comprehensive and complements the menu entirely.

Nice room; nice meals well served; efficient, friendly and helpful staff. Who could ask for anything more?

Oh yes, one more thing; there is an elevator. It is strange how many guest comments indicate some people cannot find it. (From reception, enter the lobby and turn left. It's at ther end of the corridor on your left).

Room Tip: There are no main roads with heavy traffic nearby, so noise is not a problem. When pre-booking, indi...

Both the parador and the town of cuenca were wonderful. The picture postcard view of cuenca was from outside of the parador with the hanging houses and the gorge only a short walk away. Try to get to the parador early in the afternoon of your stay as the car park fills up quite quickly.
