We were in Cuenca for one rainy night, staying in the local Parador. We walked into town to see about dinner at this place. We stayed only for a drink and olives at the bar. Unfortunately, the menus, both online and at the door of the restaurant, were not current. Additionally, because of the rainy night, the restaurant was empty.

My guess is that this is a lovely place. However, I think we caught it on an "off" night, and got disoriented by the menu changes.

Here's the deal, this place is well known by the locals BUT in typical Spanish style the locals start showing up around 9pm. So get there by 8:30 and feel like a trend setter and the herds arrive later. Okay now onto the meal. If you've been in Spain for more than 3 days you've just about had it with typical Spanish fare of ham and cheese. It's good ham to be sure but after a while you want some other flavors. El Secreto specializes in deer (venison) and it's lovely to have meat with flavor without it being 60% fat. Deer stew, Deer loin, Deer Carpaccio, it was delicious. Staff was friendly and helpful with menu. Funky decor and strong wine. This places was a highlight of our visit to the highly touristed but still pretty town of Cuenca.

A popular little place and rightly so! Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this restaurant! Friendly staff, great menu, local wines and tasty food. We didn't enjoy the game pate, down to personal choice/taste but the rest of our meal was gorgeous! Would definitely go back if we were in the area again! Value for money too!

On a cold day, we tourists were hungry before Spanish dinner time. Popped into El Secreto and had a mixture of tapas. Felt a little bit pressured by waiter, but in the end it was good food and wine. Had local game, Manchego cheese cake.

This innovative restaurant is located in old town, Cuenca, Spain, and serves imaginatively prepared food from local providers. It is a bit spendy, but you get excellent value for your money. I had fried triangles of local cheese served with a thin jam of local berries for an appetizer, and then very nice small cuts of deer served medium rare on a plate with some coarsely mashed potatoes. The orange flan for dessert was very nicely presented with a vertically inserted curlicue of dark chocolate. With a glass of nice red wine the bill was 31 euros. The location in a very old house (is it one of the casas colgadas? could well be) and the interior decoration are both lovely. I would be delighted to eat there again to try some more of their local offerings.
