We arrived a bit dishevelled having walked dog on beach and been sand blasted.

Just wanted a drink and a sit down. We hadn't been before, and drove up the long driveway thinking oh uh not going to want us as customers, but spotted some tables outside and plonked ourselves down.

Were made most welcome, including a bowl of water for dog delivered on a tray with a napkin.....he managed to lie in it but never mind, he is only a pup.

Would certainly go back for a meal, the staff were very efficient but not officious, we were a bit scruffy having been out for a day at the coast and walking for miles, so hardly clean and tidy. They made us very welcome and we would certainly go back again.

Find it interesting that an upmarket place could make a dog welcome, yet so many places don't accept them at all. A gift shop lost out on a sale as I couldn't take the dog in, I am not going to leave him outside as he is nervous and isn't used to stuff, so I didn't go in.

Other less upmarket cafes have turned us away, while some pubs welcome us wholeheartedly. I do get a bit fed up being relegated to sitting outside if it is raining or cold!

So the Roxburghe's welcome was really appreciated, particularly as they had a smart party going on, and we were not dressed to impress!

I must make it clear from the start this review might be considered slightly tainted as my wife won this two night dinner bed and breakfast stay as a prize. With a bottle of champagne thrown in plus a spa treatment for her and a round of golf for me it was the perfect prize. That said this small up market hotel was a very very relaxing place. The fishing, hunting and horse-riding set dominate the place and the whole ambience is set around them. The hotel is very traditional Scottish and very tranquil. The food was excellent. The evening menus whilst not extensive offered us plenty of choice and the food was delightful. From arrival to departure and all around the hotel and grounds the staff could not have been more friendly and attentive. They were the model of discreet customer service. Understated but always on hand and very professional but as I said friendly with it.The golf course is a fine challenge and very well presented. The driving range suited me. The joy of practising on grass and not astro turf. Overall I must confess I doubt we would visit again simply because the price range for us was too high but that said we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I fully understand the appeal of the place.

Room Tip: We had a feature room with a four poster bed and a balcony. Room number 8. A lovely room.

We were looking for a quiet, easy to get to hotel for a weekend treat. The Roxburgh was the ideal choice. Nice room with all the facilities we could have asked for. A variety of very comfortable lounges to relax in, each with a very welcoming fire burning in the hearth.
The food was of a very high standard both at breakfast and evening meal.
1 negative on the day would be a big positive for any other visit. No TV downstairs to watch the rugby!

Sadly we only stayed for one night but what a fabulous experience. Everything we could have wished for. Roaring log fires, fantastic service, beautiful surroundings and a lovely room.
Food was delicious, I had the venison which was cooked to perfection.

This is the perfect hotel to relax in but you can also enjoy many of the activities on offer such as golf, fishing, clay pigeon shooting.

Nothing is too much trouble...we will be back!

We stayed here for a long weekend in March as a base to tour the Borders and to relax. The grounds and the first impressions of the hotel are very nice - quite impressive. A small deer crossed the road in front of us we arrived. Upon opening the front door you we were welcomed by a deep, rich, smoke from the first of several open fires in the ground floor reception rooms. Staff were welcoming and showed us to our first floor room (Room 11 overlooking the front door). The bedroom was spacious, traditional and very comfortable. The hotel reception rooms are extremely comfortable - the library makes a really pleasant bar area and the choice of whiskeys is amazing - although I preferred the local draft beers. Golf, fly fishing and clay pigeon shooting is available on the grounds - the hotel make all the arrangements - it couldn't be easier or more convenient. The grounds even offer a very picturesque woodland walk for guests with a wide range of wildlife in the grounds. Breakfast was prepared individually and was perfectly fine. The one and only drawback for us was the dinners, which were really disappointing both in terms of the quality and the portions. Our meal cost us c £120 for 2 with wine. My starter of scallops comprised 2 very small scallops and a few bits and pieces to present it - hardly even a taste of the scallops. My wife started with smoked salmon that was considerably better but still not outstanding. For mains, my Rib Eye steak was very, very average and my wife's sea bream was very small indeed. The meal wasn't appalling by any means but it was very average and I would have expected much better from a hotel of this standard, which was excellent in every other way (the wine was very good). Of particular note - on our first night the hotel was cleared for 2 hours due to a chimney fire. The staff were outstanding, ushering guests into the hotel's golf clubhouse and offering them free drinks and sandwiches until they could return to the hotel - really excellent, professional service that was very well received by the guests.

Room Tip: I would choose rooms at the front of the hotel - a nice outlook!

We were here in May 2012 and only now have I found a bit of time to write a few lines. We spent our first night (of 14) in Scotland at this hotel and memories of this stay will stay with us forever. The whole ambience of this beautiful venue, on a glorious cloudless day, is unforgettable. We loved walking through the gardens! The dinner was also absolutely fantastic; the presentation and taste of each dish engraved in our memories. Hopefully, we'll be back someday....
