Friends have praised this hotel having spent Christmas breaks there. We had a night on our way home south and were, in part, disappointed. Staff and welcome could not have been more charming and genuine. Our room, in the courtyard was a great disappointment however. At their prices, the room did not come up to standards we expected. It was so cramped that in the bedroom area the only arm chair could not have been moved or placed any where else and it was jammed in a corner facing the bed. The space between the 'wardrobe' fitment was so narrow that only one person could pass by it and the end of the bed. The 'wardrobe' housed the television which could only just be viewed by both of us when in bed and the hospitality tray on a sliding shelf had difficulty in being slid out because the 'wardrobe' doors did not give any space. The room, being on the ground floor was very open to passers by and fellow guests' noise was very noticeable, and not of their own fault but of the design of the rooms. The bathroom was so small that the door could not open without the bath mat being pushed away. during the night the towel rail 'bubbled' and there was not valve to turn to stop the noise. Having said all that the food was good and the staff were delightful, especially the young girls serving in the library on our arrival. The public areas are beautifully appointed and the grounds, as one would expect, very special .

Room Tip: Demand a room any where but the courtyard!

Just spent 4 nights of absolute bliss at this wonderful hotel. For us it ticks all the boxes - food amazing, luxurious surroundings, rooms and bed really comfortable and location beautiful. Fantastic bar, staff attentive but unobtrusive. You have to try the Scottish oats for breakfast. We came here for fishing, but the golf course looks fantastic, and the river walk from the hotel to Kelso spot on - with a hotel picnic!. Couple of niggles - stingy on the bathroom toiletries and no evening turn down service - which if you have been out walking all day and had a recuperative soak before dinner, would have been nice. However still 5 stars from us, and I hope we get to come back.

The hotel is beautiful. Felt more like staying in someone's country manor rather than a paying guest. The staff are helpful, polite and very friendly. The hotel oozes charm and grandeur. Our room was sumptuous - big bed, big heavy curtains and lovely bathroom. The only thing I would have said was missing was drawers for clothes and perhaps a few coat hooks on the door so you could hang up your wet jackets. The grounds are lovely and we wish we had slightly more time to go exploring. There is a walk along the old railway line into Kelso (about 4 miles) which was excellent. Overall we had a fantastic time - will definitely return in the future.

Room Tip: We had a room at the front of the building - no problems with noise.

We arrived a bit dishevelled having walked dog on beach and been sand blasted.

Just wanted a drink and a sit down. We hadn't been before, and drove up the long driveway thinking oh uh not going to want us as customers, but spotted some tables outside and plonked ourselves down.

Were made most welcome, including a bowl of water for dog delivered on a tray with a napkin.....he managed to lie in it but never mind, he is only a pup.

Would certainly go back for a meal, the staff were very efficient but not officious, we were a bit scruffy having been out for a day at the coast and walking for miles, so hardly clean and tidy. They made us very welcome and we would certainly go back again.

Find it interesting that an upmarket place could make a dog welcome, yet so many places don't accept them at all. A gift shop lost out on a sale as I couldn't take the dog in, I am not going to leave him outside as he is nervous and isn't used to stuff, so I didn't go in.

Other less upmarket cafes have turned us away, while some pubs welcome us wholeheartedly. I do get a bit fed up being relegated to sitting outside if it is raining or cold!

So the Roxburghe's welcome was really appreciated, particularly as they had a smart party going on, and we were not dressed to impress!

I must make it clear from the start this review might be considered slightly tainted as my wife won this two night dinner bed and breakfast stay as a prize. With a bottle of champagne thrown in plus a spa treatment for her and a round of golf for me it was the perfect prize. That said this small up market hotel was a very very relaxing place. The fishing, hunting and horse-riding set dominate the place and the whole ambience is set around them. The hotel is very traditional Scottish and very tranquil. The food was excellent. The evening menus whilst not extensive offered us plenty of choice and the food was delightful. From arrival to departure and all around the hotel and grounds the staff could not have been more friendly and attentive. They were the model of discreet customer service. Understated but always on hand and very professional but as I said friendly with it.The golf course is a fine challenge and very well presented. The driving range suited me. The joy of practising on grass and not astro turf. Overall I must confess I doubt we would visit again simply because the price range for us was too high but that said we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I fully understand the appeal of the place.

Room Tip: We had a feature room with a four poster bed and a balcony. Room number 8. A lovely room.

We were looking for a quiet, easy to get to hotel for a weekend treat. The Roxburgh was the ideal choice. Nice room with all the facilities we could have asked for. A variety of very comfortable lounges to relax in, each with a very welcoming fire burning in the hearth.
The food was of a very high standard both at breakfast and evening meal.
1 negative on the day would be a big positive for any other visit. No TV downstairs to watch the rugby!
