The accommodations were a good value. My father, brother and I went up to go fishing in the surrounding area but did not want to camp this time. We fished all day and came back to a comfortable stay at night and used the grill to cook up some steaks. We didn't want a Hilton and didn't want to pay for a Hilton. We got more than we expected for the rates. The lake there is not in good fishing condition during the late summer but we knew that ahead of time and enjoyed fishing the nearby lakes (state and reservation lakes). However, the lake there is pretty and we had some fun catching bullheads off the dock at night. As you get older and busier in life, it's nice to have a hot shower and cold (refrigerated) refreshment after fishing all day. We will definitely consider going back again for a fishing trip and recommend it as a good value.

Room Tip: get one near the dock!

Completely enjoyed my stay with you guys. The room was great. It had all the amenities of home. Weather was perf ect for fishing. Really enjoyed playing volleyball and boating with the pontoon boat. The staff was friendly and also gave me some fishing tips. The rooms were clean and tidy. Would recommed this place to my friends and will definitely stay here again.

Me and my friends live in the city so we wanted to go up north and be in the middle of the forest to enjoy the quiet and wilderness. These so called Cabins were Half of a house in the middle of a neighborhood on a lake that's in the middle of Show Low. So i traveled all the way from Mesa just to sleep in small room in another city up north. The Lake wasn't very swim able and to rent a boat costs more then a room. To go hiking you would have to travel to find a hiking trail. There was one fire pit and a couple grills you have to share with all the other Residents. It was very boring and only stayed one night. The only way to contact anyone is through Email, so we'll see if we can get a refund for a terrible vacation.

**PLEASE READ OUR RESPONSE** We wanted to take a moment to clarify this reviewers comments, so that prospective guests have an honest and accurate depiction of what to expect. In so doing, I want to be sure to address every point made in the review. "So called Cabins" - no where do we advertise these as cabins. They are duplex/condo style of rooms situated right on the lake. "Middle of Show Low" - we are in the town of Pinetop-Lakeside, which neighbors Show Low and are one of the only lodges not located off the main road. "Lake wasn't swim able" - this lake is known more for fishing than swimming (some people do splash around near the public boat dock though). "Rent a boat costs more than a room" - boat rentals start at $29, which is less than any room and the most affordable boating in the area. "Travel to find a hiking trail" - there are many nearby hiking trails, but many people do just walk the property or the lake. "One fire pit and a couple of grills" - for safety and aesthetics we do only have one fire pit, but each room has it's own charcoal grill. "Very boring" - that is of course subjective, but most of our great guests usually wish they had more time, with many extending their stays. "Only way to contact anyone is through email" - that is one way to contact us. However most people contact us via phone, which is 928-368-9004. Of course we are always sad to see someone not enjoy themselves, but we always work extra hard to provide comfortable and clean accommodations at an affordable price. Thanks for taking the time to read our response, and we wish you happy and safe travels.

We had a small but efficient room on the lake....while the view was not a head on view, it was very peaceful and relaxing..the refrig and microwave are tiny so don't bring alot of food with you..we could not see the lake from the room unless we were standing up or sitting on the chairs outside still we enjoyed our stay and the host was amazing...knowledgable about the area and always available to help in any way necessary. we especially appreciated how clean the room and grounds are kept.....you can fish from the shore or a nice pier...we will try a room facing the lake next time..

Room Tip: be sure the room has a full view of the lake and not a side view...some of the rooms had a full refr...

The rustic setting adds to the evocativeness and the overall ambience. The only negative comment that I could think of would be the parking. Again the Lewis family and staff were one of the highlights to our visit. Give them a raise or make them partners they truly are an asset to your organization.
We reserved our cabin at http://relaxinaz.com and reviewed the pictures of the cabins. The pictures didn't do justice for the cabins. The cabins were small but very comfortable. The hosts took us across the street (literally) and showed us where to fish. The waterfalls were about two feet. We only hiked about 2.5-3.0 miles up the creek (so to speak) due to wearing the wrong shoes. The hosts took us in the evening fishing on the property. The whole family had a lot of fun.

Be aware - these are not cute rustic cabins on the lake. They are very old, prefab units which have had a lot of smaller amenities modernized like the microwave, stove, frid, dishes. They are very small and if you get stuck in the rain which happens a lot in the summer you will feel very claustrophobic. They are on a lovely lake although there is a fence between you and the lake front.

Lodge M, Owner at Rainbow Lake Resort, responded to this reviewResponded 31 July 2013

I would first like to thank this person for staying with us. I did want to clarify a few things in their review. The reviewer is right that these are "not rustic cabins on the lake", they are rooms (more like small condos on the lake). To be sure the property and the rooms are right on the lake. Some of the rooms are older, but most have been renovated and there are others that are new construction altogether. The rooms vary in terms of amenities ranging from a kitchenette to a full kitchen with dining area. The rooms also vary in size as some are cozy and others are pretty good size (we list the sq ft on the website of each room). There is a low fence on one side of the lake, but not the other side by the dock. So, in one area there is a very low see-through chainlink fence (maybe 3-4 ft high) and then by the boat dock area there is no fence at all. We are also a short walk to the public boat dock area as well. I just want to be sure that any prospective guest has the most accurate information they can have when making a decision. thank you for reading our reply.
