“Disappointing - essentially gloomy, tired and noisy”
Reviewed 6 June 2011

I needed somehwere local to St Davids after an activity day ("Coasteering" if you're interested) and this was the closest hotel I could find with decent reviews. Although nothing was so bad that I would avoid it at all costs, I would certainly look elsewhere should I ever return to the area. Good points: 1. staff tried to be helpful but nothing ever seemed to go smoothly. 2. Quality and quantity of food (dinner and breakfast) was good value and tasty. 3. Comfy bed (but sleep hard to come by - see later).
Bad points: 1. Reception was cold, unwelcoming and deserted at 6pm on a beautiful bright June day. Entering the hotel was like stepping out of summer into an autumnal morgue. 2. Furnishings, paintwork and decoration were tired. Some may think that random stairs, uneven levels, creaky floor, worn carpet and cables tacked to walls and painted over add character: I think it looks cheap and old. 3. Restaurant had its few small windows blacked out, lighting was morbid and atmosphere like your granny's old parlour. 4. Misc niggles show lack of care or attention to detail: e.g. Room door didn't close properly, no shampoo or conditioner in the room, they forgot to order my morning paper, limited TV channels, toilet seat didn't stay up requiring one legged gymnastics (yes I'm male), Worst thing - my double aspect room looked out onto roof tiles in every direction - very drab, and after dark a party started up downstairs and the music continued unti 01:00, so sleep was hard to come by. Awoke next day more tired and stressed than when I arived after a hard day jumping off cliffs into icy water. All in all, a cheap B&B feel, not the "Country Guest House" I hoped for: in urgent need of renovation & TLC in my view. Good value food is the only saving grace.

Room Tip: Avoid room4 unless roof tiles excite you

We stayed here for one night as we were attending a party in Haverfordwest, and this hotel came highly recommended from people we knew who lived in the area. The room was spacious with a lovely view and very comfortable bed. We ate at the restaurant in the evening and the food was of a good standard. Breakfast was also good with a broad selection of cereals, and fruit juices as well as cooked options. This is an ideal base if you wish to travel around West Wales.

i ate at the Wolfscastle Inn many years ago when visiting the US Base at Brawdy. i wanted to return to Wales and the share the same west Wales and Country Inn experience with my wife, so she flew over from the states after my week of work in Reading and we headed west.

We were not disappointed. It's a bit out of H'West so the country (or at least on the edge of the country) feel is there. It's not really hard to find but it does up up suddenly on the left if you are approaching from the south so keep an eye out. Check in was efficient and easy. The room was very nicely appointed, including a sofa and nice large four post bed. The en suite was quite large and included both a jetted bath and a separate shower. Noise was not an issue, but it was off season and not very busy. Not that it matters, really, but we were a bit surprised that most of the guests were businessmen.

Down to the food. Breakfast was standard for this level of House; a pretty well stocked buffet and ability to order from the menu; not brilliant but very good.

Dinner was to be the highlight. As it turned out it was very good but we got a shock at the start. When we went downstairs to get a table we peeked in the restaurant side of the hallway and there was no one to greet us. So, we went to the desk. She directed us back to the bar, which we took to be where diner was being served. Itwas a sensory overload experience for two Americans not used to pub scene. It was packed (this was a Thursday night) and there were no tables open. We just sttod gape mouthed for a minute or two getting side long glances from the locals until finally a waitresstook pity on us (as we were blocking the entry) and led us back across the hallway to the dining room. It took a few minutes to regain composure but once we did dinner proceeded smoothly and deliciously! We both had trout and the portion was huge! Two fillets on each plate that would normally be enough for two meals. We finished both plates and also had a wonderful dessert.

All in all a great stay; rain in St. David's, tea in Aberystwyth, and a few golden hours on the Pembrokeshire Coast Walk. The Wolfscastle Inn is a great base to enjoy far west Wales.

Just stayed at the hotel for one night. Nice big rooms with big double bed and sofa. Probably the best power shower I have used. I only got to use the shower because of the dirt in the bath. It obviously had not been cleaned since the last guest. Hairs all over it.
Restaurant was a bit pricey so did bot eat there. But with a clean bath this hotel would get 5* . I would return and hope the bath was a one off.

Have only stayed once as I live locally but stayed over after a Christmas party in 2008. As everything else in Allt yr afon top class room and the food whether a wedding, formal function (been to loads), restaurant or breakfast equally 1st class. Andrew Stirling has been running the show hear for over 25 years and the attention to detail hasn't changed one bit. It's sad to say but there is very little in the area that comes within a mile of equal standard to this gem.

Wolfscastle Hotel and Restaurant has a lovely relaxed atmosphere and the service is very warm and friendly. It is the perfect place if you are passionate about good food. The meals are well presented and it is quite obvious that there has been much care and attention in the preparation using as much local produce as possible. We have never been disappointed with the food; the house wines are excellent and all in all very reasonably priced. For a night out with our friends where could we find a better place, Wolfscastle Hotel is the highlight of our week.

Stayed here for three nights B&B in August whilst touring Pembrokeshire.
It is a good location halfway between Haverford West and Fishgaurd and is a good location to tour around St Davids and the surrounding coastal villages and beaches.
Wolfscastle is in the middle of nowhere though and the only other POI is the local pub, which fortunately is quite good also.
We booked the stay via their own website and got one of their seasonal room deals for three nights and an evening meal.
Our room was OK, comfortable and had all the amenities but wasn't anything overly special.
I'm always scepital of eating in Hotel restaurants but the wife had convinced me to use the hotel restaurant after seeing reviews for it, and I have to say I am glad she did. The al-la-carte menu is a bit pricey but the quality was superb. And the breakfasts in the morning were very good also.
The hotel reception is spacious and welcoming and there is quite a nice small bar area which also does bar meals, although we did not utilise this as there was no real ale and the village pub is just a short walk down hill if this is what you are after.
At all times the service was friendly and generally efficient.
And finally there is a large car park so no problem with parking.
