This is a super, well maintained, well equipped property. The villa itself and the pool area are great and the village of Tourbes is very typical of the area. The setting is quiet but there is a baker, shop and restaurant in the village. Pezenas is only a short drive away. We would happily return.
We stayed as a family of four (parents and daughters of 20 and 16) at this property in Tourbes for three weeks holiday in August 2015. We have had a lovely time enjoying this attractive property and the surrounding area. I would have no hesitation recommending the property and wouldn’t mind returning in the future. Booking was easy through GoLanguedoc.com.
The property is large and well maintained, and could easily accommodate 2 families or a larger family group.
The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you need on a holiday, it is quite home from home. The living area is very comfortable with aircon, TV etc. The WIFI was really useful for the girls with their hectic social life through media!! and husband who had to work some mornings, the access to an office area on the mezzanine was excellent and much appreciated. Use of the printer if needed was really helpful.
You can dine inside or outside on the large terrace enjoying the views of the garden and the attractive surrounding countryside. Lovely views of vineyards and the local church. There is a part of the terrace that can be enjoyed in the sun with a sunshade that can be extended out if you need it. The terrace leads down some steps to the pool and pool terrace. The pool is large, is unheated, cleaned regularly and was certainly needed on the hot summer days we stayed around the villa. It has steps leading into the water and it was nice to lower yourself in a bit at a time. The terrace around the pool was large and furnished with sun loungers and deckchairs. Plenty of room to stretch out or move around.
The villa is surrounded by a large garden that has got some fruit/olive trees; I thoroughly enjoyed the figs that were ripening in the sun. There is plenty of room for younger children to run around. Some herbs grow to the side of the house.
The four bedrooms (three doubles and one twin) are large, nicely decorated and roomy with plenty of storage space, always an issue with our lot, but the facilities accommodated us well. The beds are king size, except the twin beds, and very comfortable. There is a large bathroom with a corner bath with shower, a conventional shower, and double sink. One bedroom has ensuite facilities. It does tend to get hot on some nights but the owner has thoughtfully provided good fans for each bedroom.
The house is gated (electric) and accessed via a fairly steep driveway. There is room for several cars to park and manoeuvre if necessary. We felt safe within the villa and grounds; neighbours when we saw them, were very friendly. The village is a short walk away and has a small local shop, a bread shop and a small weekly market. The restaurant “La Maison” is worth a visit as is “L’Asparagus” in nearby Valros. There is also a bar which serves snacks and pizzas. Tourbes hosts events at certain times “Tourbes O’Jazz” and “Les Journees Taurines” whilst we were there in August.
There are plenty of places to visit nearby. Nearby Pezenas is a wonderful town anytime, a bit busy in summer, but great on Wednesday and Friday nights in July and August when the shops stay open late with street entertainers, wine tasting and local food products available in a party type atmosphere. There are loads of bars and restaurants to suit most tastes. For essential food shopping there are larger supermarkets around the town.
Other places worth a visit were the Pont Romaine and the old mill at St Thibery, Pont du Diable near to St Guilhem, Sete, Cap D’Agde, Beziers, Carcasonne, Montepellier (for the girly shopping fix), Marseillan, and Marseillan Plage (good fun fair there too).
We have been really impressed with the villa. It is well planned and thoughtfully allows access to books and facilities sometimes not available at other properties. It would not suit people with some mobility issues i.e. the property is accessed via steps, but this is stated clearly in the property description. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and hope to return in the future.
I wouldn’t mind living there! ;)
