My husband and I celebrated our wedding Anniversary at this hotel. We loved it so much we decided to extend our stay and stay another night. The location is perfect and there were baby turtles hatching on the beach, taking their first steps into the sea! The cottages are beautiful and spacious. The whole property is clean and the staff are the best I have ever come across in Dar. The food was wonderful and the menu was very good. The pool was big and the beach waves were huge. My husband and I found Amani a breathe of fresh air from our demanding life in Dar. This was the ultimate relaxation spot for us and we can't wait to return with our children to have a wonderful family wkd with them. Quiet and very pleasant indeed! A must visit if in Dar. This is a good hotel with an almost great location. Rooms are good and the food was good too.

The problem was with the several power cuts we experienced waking up at 3am sweating from the heat.

The pool was spacious and good and the beach is an almost private beach.

This hotel would have gotten a 4 star rating had it not been for their annoying mananger called Jimmy. He gave us no privacy, was very nosy and just couldn't mind his own business. The point of going to such a place is privacy which this guy totally left us with none.

Dear Khalid_Ismail_Zarooni

jambo from Protea Hotel Amani Beach. Thank you for staying with us and sharing your review on Trip Advisor. I am extremely sorry that you did not enjoy your stay due to the A/C switching off at night and the over enthusiastic manager who you felt was invading your privacy. We unfortunately have regular power cuts and the generator kicks-off after a couple of minutes which causes the AC units to be turned off. The units are connected to automatic voltage stabilizers with a delay switch to protect the AC units which adds onto the delay. We are looking at alternative solution for this. We have a new Resident Manager, George, who is doing an excellent job and hopefully we will be able to offer better experience on your next visit.

Thanks and regards,

The hotel is about an hours drive from the city centre but well away from the hustle and bustle. It is a buetiful property with a lot of greenery. A great beach too. The hotel has only 10 room or cottages rather taking into consideration the big size. Very well built and maintained with an outside seating area and a hammock. The hotel staff are very friendly and accommodating. You need a few days to wind down, this is the ultimate place. The architecture is a blend of African with a little Arabic influence. The floor tiles are Italian. The hotel also provides horse riding and other activities. The swimming pool in near to the beach and a great place to lounge about. As the hotel has only 10 cottages, it is never crowded and non guests are not allowed in unless prior arrangements with the management is made. I would definitely go again.

From the moment we arrived it was like peeling off layers of stress, discomfort and irritation and stepping into an exclusive haven. Amani is beautiful: the buildings blend in with the landscape making a sympathetic and quiet statement. The grounds are more woven from than carved out of the landscape. Individual bandas are large, airy, simply furnished and very comfortable. The beach and coastline provide plenty of opportunity for swimming, walking and bird watching. The pool is a decent size and great to cool off in when the tide is out. The management and staff were discrete but attentive. The food was a great improvement on previous visits (several years ago) and the real (and very good) coffee for breakfast a cause for a resounding hurrah from our party of four. For a weekend retreat from the heat and dust of Dar, Amani is close to ideal. The only problem is getting there and back: the ferries to and from Kigamboni and the appalling traffic chaos it attracts are a continuing nightmare.

Room Tip: All rooms face the sea and are equally aportioned. 6,7,8 & 9 are nearest the pool

"Amani" which means "peace" is what one experiences when at Protea Amani Beach resort. I experienced a solo week-end away from a busy schedule in the mainland Dar es Salaam. After 3 months of hard work on a project, this was the ideal rest that the doctor had prescribed. Synonymous with the Protea Group of Hotels, the staff was friendly and went the extra mile to personally come to my cottage to get an order. I recommend Amani for those who want to take rest and enjoy the serene environment of East Africa.

Room Tip: Choose the one next to the pool and beach bar.

We had a Christmas holiday with my family in Amani Beach and we had a really good time there. Peaceful place where you can totally relax but there are also things to do if you like. There are warm and nice villages nearby and people are really nice. Learn some swahili basics like mambo, asante, karibu... it's more fun to communicate like that. Rooms were clean and next to beach. Hotel staff was amazing, we had a lot of fun. Food was ok but sometimes a little over cooked. Manager will help you with all arrangements from safaris to horse ridings and snorklings to village tours. They get the best price for you. At least it seemed so. Location is good because it is a little away from Dar es Salaam. It was maybe 1-2 hours from airport and pretty much the to Dar es Salaam. It depends if you get stuck in ferry line. I recommend the long way, it's faster. But if you like nature surrounded and the beach cottages, this is the place absolutely!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Amani means “peace” in Kiswahili, and that’s exactly what you’ll find at Protea Hotel Amani Beach. Just 33km south of the bustling city of Dar es Salaam, down a sandy road to the ocean, hides our small African paradise and a total escape from the outside world. Set amongst 80 acres of beautiful tropical gardens, each of our 10 luxury beach bungalows overlooks the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. They combine the opulence of Zanzibar sultans with African craftsmanship and charm. Around the bungalows the grounds are alive with wildlife and, on the unspoiled white sands of our secluded beach turtles have chosen to make their home. We have two dining areas - one that serves breakfast and lunch, whilst our main restaurant provides a much more romantic and atmospheric setting for the evening meal. Our food draws its influences from the exotic flavours of East African cooking as well as from the simple fresh flavours of the Mediterranean. The open-sided makuti thatch beach bar provides the ideal outdoor seating area to enjoy the refreshing coastal breeze without the glare of the African sun. Whether you’re looking for total relaxation, a romantic holiday, adventure or simply to experience unspoilt nature, you’ll find it here and more. Welcome to an unforgettable experience, welcome to Amani Beach Hotel. ... more   less
