Excellent staff, clean rooms with many options (joint family rooms, bunk beds) and all on one level (no stairs cases to go up and down). Fantastic breakfast options (continental or full buffet). Located away from the hassle of city traffic.

Room Tip: All size families catered for.

We overnighted here on our way to the ski fields. So it was cold weather.

The room air con wasn't working so the room was freezing cold - the staff eventually rustled up a little blower heater but it wasn't fun.

It wasn't lovely, it was difficult to find and was all rather depressing really.

The breakfast was quite nice, though.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else!!!

Hi Sariban,

Thanks for your review, I am sorry the air con was not functioning properly. We have identified a couple of units in the hotel that haven't been able to cope with the recent cold fronts moving across the country and are replacing these.

I hope you decide to give the hotel another chance in the future.

Kind Regards

We stayed here for a week over Easter as we were at the National Folk Festival in Canberra. First thing to note is that although it is advertised as Ibis Canberra, it is, in fact, in NSW! You get what you pay for. It was cheap and as we were only sleeping there it suited our needs. But! unless you are passionate about fried, dried, bowling club bain marie type food avoid the restaurant. And even the breakfast bacon was good for shoe leather! My husband suggested we get up at 6am and go for breakfast so that the eggs and bacon would be fresh! Foiled, I think the cook (no chefs here!) had cooked the breakfast at 4am! The pub down the road provides an edible alternative dinner. The grounds are lovely and the staff were delightful.

Room Tip: Spa was cool for Canberra winter so used only once

Hi Franma2013,

Thanks for the review! You are correct, we are on the border, in fact we are the border! With only 15 mins to CBD Canberra we are close enough to be convenient and far enough for you to relax in the bush atmosphere. Did you see any of our resident Kangaroos? They are a great addition to the experience.

Our new menu will be going live in a couple of weeks with a bit of a different concept and I think right up the alley of what you would be looking for.

I am glad you liked the surroundings and the crew. They are a great bunch.

Look forward to seeing you again soon.

The price was right, however the hotel needs a refresh.

I booked 2 family suites for my sister and I and our respective kids, and requested they be positioned next to each other. We arrived at the hotel, and discovered the rooms weren't next to each other. After much discussion with the receptionist, we were finally placed next to each other. Initially, they weren't willing to assist despite it being part of the original booking request.

The family suites are spacious, consisting of 2 rooms. 1 room had 3 single beds plus kitchenette, wardrobe and TV. The 2nd room had 2 single beds pushed together to make a queen size bed, plus TV and ensuite.

The rooms are dated and need a coat of paint and carpet cleaning, the bathroom was very clean. We had lots of bugs coming into our rooms at night so had to place a towel at the bottom of each door to stop the bugs getting in.

The pool and spa were great, as well as seeing rabbits and kangaroos over the back of the property.

Breakfast was great value with a huge variety. We had the full continental breakfast and as there was 8 of us in the group, the dining staff were fantastic in ensuring we were looked after.

Room Tip: Rooms near the pool get noisy as they're near the BBQ and dining facilities.

1. Room and experience not to the advertised 4-star standard - there were red stains on the carpet and towels, a tear in the bed sheet, the shampoo container was previously used, bathroom tiles were broken, the chairs were stained and the room smelled.
2. Falsely advertised as being in Canberra - address of the hotel is actually in NSW, and this NSW address was present on the information page handed to us upon check in.
3. Misleadingly advertised as being a 15 minute drive from Canberra CBD - it took us 25 mins to drive to the hotel from the CBD at 11:30pm on a Tuesday night with no traffic.
4. Air quality and cleanliness of the room was poor and exacerbated my eczema.
5. So-called "hotel" is actually a motor inn, not a hotel - as evidenced by the information panel on the door of our room from the motor inn association.

Room Tip: Don't choose a room at all.

We booked a family suite (Room 267) for our stay (couple with two children) and really enjoyed our stay. The two room suite was spacious with a kitchenette and TVs in each bedroom. It was very handy to have access to a bar fridge and great that it had no mini-bar supplies in it (so children could not nag for expensive treats). The beds were very comfortable and warm on what were some cold nights. The rooms were clean and the beds were made up daily. My only complaint was that the shower head was not very good: maybe it was a water saving head or maybe it was a bit old, but this was only a minor niggle: it was not a shower that invited one to linger. However, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the restaurant, where we ate one night, was great for a family. We had one small complaint about the food and they 'fixed' the bill for us without being asked to, which was greatly appreciated and characteristic of the high quality of service there.
Overall it was great value for our family stay, and it was no trouble at all to drive from the Ibis to Canberra to see the sights.

Hi Deborah B,

We very much appreciate your comments regarding your stay at the ibis Styles Canberra Eaglehawk. It is always a pleasure to receive positive feedback!

I will share your comments with our team, I am happy that they looked after you in terms of your bill and experience in our Wintergarden Restaurant. Unfortunately the shower head has a water saver on it - a problem in which I cannot fix but I am taking the appropriate actions to address the other small issues you raised and prevent them from happening again in the future. Your feedback will help my team to continuously improve our service.
