“Lovely evening spent at the Poet...”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

Food was tasty, filling & well presented - not overly pricey for what we had at all (plus a 25% off early bird discount). Staff were friendly and welcoming & atmosphere was great! Lovely evening spent with a friend.

“Great pub!”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

I came yesterday (30th June) with a friend & we had a lovely evening. We were welcomed by a nice lady (in a black dress) who was polite & friendly. We had a gorgeus meal in a lovely area of the pub & felt warm, cosy & content after a tasty meal.
Thank you :)

“First appearance,lovely.”
Reviewed 28 June 2014

Visited Matfield a few times over the years but the traffic is so horrendous now plus found it very difficult to park . The Poet has two car parks but we still couldn't park the car.thinking WOW! It must be good here... looks up market.even down the road there was cars parked up on pavements.finally got to eat there and looking Forward to the meal but when it was served I was disappointed in the size of the meal for the price of it.
To be honest it was over priced and we haven't been back.
When people chose to eat out they want what their paying for. Good Quality decent food for a good price.

“Great Food and experience”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

I am a fairly regular visitor to the poet and it has never disappointed me. Great beer on tap, food is of the highest quality and the atmosphere is everything you want in a local pub/restaurant.
The guys who own the poet have really made a great job of this pub and have made it a great local hot spot for food and drink lovers

“Last minute decision to eat out was not disappointing”
Reviewed 21 June 2014

We live very close to The Poet but hadn't eaten here before, we took the opportunity of a childless evening to try out the menu.

The service and welcome were extremely friendly and we were very impressed with the cosy but uncluttered restaurant environment. Although reasonably busy the atmosphere was relaxed and peaceful. Our service was courteous and attentive.

My smoked haddock risotto was absolutely delicious, as was a my husband's port ragu. The portion size was perfect and the flavours were fabulous.

It is slightly more expensive than we would normally pay on a regular basis but worth it for a special occasion and such good quality food.

Will definitely return -just a bit embarrassed it has taken us so long to get around to eating at The Poet
