“Wonderful retreat with private everything!”

We loved everything about this Villa , its well maintained gardens and private pools, tennis court and the amazing host and chef Naima who took great care of us during our stay, without her we would have probably felt like your typical tourists,, she cooks amazing meals for us better than the dinner we had at the famous Mamounia hotel, sh's a true chef, the best moroccan dishes we ever had!
the flying peacocks grazing the grounds .. the lemon juice from the gardens and the fabulous olive oil from the estate , its all organic and just perfect, we brought a few bottles back home.
we would love to go back soon.

“What a wonderful discovery”

We have been holidaying in various self catering villas, primarily in Europe, North Africa and America for the past 15 odd years.

This year we discovered Atlas Villa Retreat in Marrakech, about 15 minute's drive from the centre. Sofia, the owner was very helpful during our pre-trip communications and recommended that I cancel the hire car I'd booked and either use Hassan, a very friendly driver she recommended with a large air conditioned MPV or get him to hire a car for us on an as needed basis. We have always hired a car for the duration of our stay previously and enjoyed the freedom it afforded but with a little trepidation took Sofia's advice.

Hassan was at the airport to meet us and drive us to villa. On arrival, we were met by Naima who, along with her assistant Lamia, would help make our stay so pleasurable. Naima was there to cater to our every whim, in particular with her culinary skills.

Each morning, we were presented with breakfast on the terrace, comprising variously of Moroccan crumpets, Moroccan pancakes, omelettes, cheese, yogurts, toast, home made fig preserve and honey. We opted to skip a prepared lunch and afternoon tea for fear of gaining too much weight and always looked forward to supper. Each night, Naima would make a delightful 3 course Moroccan meal. Dishes included couscous, tagines, pastilla and charcoal grilled kebabs. The food was extra, with a three course evening meal costing around £6 per person depending on the ingredients. We would discuss with Naima each day what we would like and she would buy the ingredients fresh the following morning.

One reason we like villa holidays is that they offer privacy and flexibility. We like being able to spend time together as a family, not having to worry about anyone else or be bound by any externally enforced schedule. On this basis, we were unsure how having staff on site would work for us and whether it would compromise or enhance our holiday. Meals were served whatever time we requested and it was nice to have the option of a lie-in with breakfast ready when we rose or to have our evening meal ready whenever it suited our plans.

The villa and grounds were as lovely as the photos suggest. A nice large pool that was cleaned daily and peacocks roaming around provided that extra air of opulence. We were also able to stroll around the olive groves and visit the donkeys that live on the estate.

On the practical side, the beds were comfortable, there was air conditioning in the sitting room & all bedrooms and Wi-Fi speeds were far better than I expected for a semi rural location.

The entire villa was cleaned daily and the beds made which was a nice addition compared to our normal villa experience. Fresh bath and pool towels were also provided as needed.

Hassan also helped make the trip enjoyable, ferrying us wherever we wanted to go including day trips further afield. Observing the driving (and kamikaze pedestrians) in Marrakech was in itself an experience and made us extremely pleased that we'd cancelled the hire car and let a professional take the reins.

We were sad to leave, but returned home with some of the organic olive oil produced on the estate, which will surely bring back memories of a wonderful holiday whenever we use it.

If being pampered in quiet, relaxing surroundings, a short drive from the hustle and excitement of Marrakech's Medina sounds appealing, then I would have no hesitation in recommending Atlas Villa.

“Peace and beauty”
Reviewed 17 February 2014 for a stay in February 2014

A wonderful stay. We were taken from the airport to the villa directly by the car rental guy, and discovered the location by night: a must see, with all these lights magically spread across the gardens and front yard: welcome to paradise!
We've been taken care of with warmth by Naima, the housekeeper - and a great cook! Our room was cosy and quiet, and a firelight gave us another piece of feeling at home. The next day we discovered the place - its animals first: this great dog (named Max), and the beautiful peacocks - not to forget the donkeys, which we fed with carrots. Superb breakfast on the terrace by the swimming pool. What a stay! All that peace 10 minutes from Marrakech, and even closer to some great dining spots. The place also has an office with the Internet, so we could stay in touch with business and relatives. Add the beauty of the garden and the olive trees plantation, and you get the recipe for a heavenly stay.
