“Horrible customer service, disinterested owner”
Reviewed 11 January 2014

My friend and I just stayed one night there, I can not agree more with the above comments regarding the horrible customer service. To start off, we called and the owner said he will send a boat to pick us up right away - it took an hour of wait, it was unsettling and we saw 20-30 boats came and go, none was for us. When the boat finally arrived, we had to wait for another hour, the boat operator refused to say a word, or barely willing to explain why at all (mind you, I do speak fairly OK spanish).

The owner was too busy talking in German with two of his buddies at the reception desk all the time that he brushed of all conversations, requests, exchange of courtesies with nearly all guests. All local workers there seemed very submissive to the owner and unhappy or unwilling (or seems too scare to) to converse with guests. That just felt really odd.

It so appears that the owner may be too tired of doing what he is doing, but frankly when you go on holidays, this just spoils all your fun. Not to mention every boat rides is a long long and painful wait even though he does bill you for the boat ride. Probably this way to avoid you going shopping and dining on the mainland and purchase his expensive food and drinks.

All to be said, this is a beautiful place poorly managed by a miserable and disinterested owner. Avoid this place unless the owner is changed!

A fabulous hostel! It's very clean and welcoming with a variety of delicious food (the swiss sausage is particularly yummy). The homely hostel - with tea and coffee on tap - is set on stilts above the water and the bustling city is accessible by boat. There are free kayaks to use at your leisure and excellent wifi.

What's particularly wonderful is the pet honey bear that has been rescued after losing his tail in a fight. Each night he pays the guests a visit around 7 pm and loves to play. He's very small, very friendly and very well looked after.

Room Tip: Lovely rooms, very rustic and full of character. If choosing a room above the bar just be aware that...

Dont get yourself the illusion this is a quiet place, only during the day. I didn't feel welcome and every question seemed to much. No warm welcome, no information or just some small talk. On the contrary; I had to search the place to find someone to order breakfast or to get me to the dock by boat. They tried to put me in an earlier boat because that suited them better. One roundtrip is for free, they others you pay.

The room was okay but the food is overprized. I had an private room. My bed was probably clean and the floor swept but that was it. Cobwebs everywhere. The platform behind the restaurant has 4 large rooms but are really noise. I could hear my neighbours talk clearly and when they walked, I shaked in my bed. Somewhere around, still don't know where, there's a loud bar (with terrible karaoke). Shower is suprizingly nice. Floors are slippery everywhere. Watch out for that!

Positive is fast wifi (you pay Q15 per day for that!), lots of choice in food (and tasts well) on the menu, coffee, tea and sodas are easy to get and nice area to hang out.

If you're used to hostels, you'll like it if you can afford it. Do you normally stay in hotels? Better not go here

Dont go there. Very unpleasent staff and expensive restaurant. The only thing they care about is your money. Nothing else.they charge you for using the wifi, and every time you want to go to the city......

The layout of the hostel is amazing - cabins in a swamp connected by platforms. The evening buffet was very good. I found the service to be absolutely fine. Yes, it is isolated but this is part of the charm of the place and nobody is obliged to stay.
