Penny and ian have been lovely hosts and it is obvious that they love what they are doing. All rooms have been decorated by different themes with a high degree of originality, eye for detail and quality so travelers can fully relax and enjoy their stay. These people know what they are doing and we would very much enjoy coming back during our next visit to cape breton. thumbs up for their lovely b&b

If you are travelling through Cape Bretton to experience the fall colours, you should consider staying at this B&B. Quietly nesstled half way up the East side between Baddeck and Ingonish, this B&B had all you could wish for. Comfortable, well appointed (and individualised) rooms, gracious hosts (Ian and Penny) and great breakfasts. Ian, the "master chef" made a traditional English breakfast the first morning and we had light and fluffy blueberry and raspberry pancakes the next. He also knows all the best places to visit depending on your time available and what interests you. Their dogs are cute too.

Room Tip: Theme rooms in main house and one stand alone cottage. Largest room, the conservatory - french provi...

We spent three nights in the upstairs suite and it was a wonderful experience. This was our first visit to Cape Breton and I spent some time on-line searching for a place to stay. I selected the English Country Garden B&B and was not disappointed.
The upstairs suite consists of a large bedroom and bathroom (with tub/shower) along with a small sitting room. As we had booked three nights we received the special treat of a bottle of local wine and chocolates waiting for us in the sitting room. A very nice touch.
The bed was comfortable, very important to us as we tend to go out by 9 a.m. and return at 8 p.m. or later quite ready to fall over. The location is out of the way which means it is very quiet and picturesque. One of our regrets is that we did not take the time to sit out by the adjoining lake.
Breakfasts were delicious. The first morning we were given a new bread they were experimenting with, fresh baked that morning, and it was outstanding (wish now I could remember what is was). The coffee never stopped coming and the main courses were uniformly excellent. We ate in a very pleasant sun room on the side of the house and since the weather was great it all made a fantastic start to each day.
One of the proprieter's, Ian, is a font of knowledge about everything Cape Breton. He advised us of hikes and vistas and places to visit that all were exactly as he described.
I would recommend this B&B for either those who want an out of the way place to sit and relax or who want to do day hlking on Cape Breton.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Iris Room, which is the most expensive room in the B&B. Calling it a room is m...

My wife and I stayed at ‘The English Country Garden Bed and Breakfast’ in The Rose Cottage for 3 nights in July during our trip to Cape Breton.

We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay there again if we ever find ourselves back on the island. It was nicely located in that we could tour The Cabot Trail in either direction.

Ian and Penny were gracious and helpful hosts, suggesting things to do and places to eat. Their B&B was nicely decorated and maintained and really had an ‘English’ style to it. The Rose Cottage was very comfortable, rustic but well appointed and clean and situated on a nice lake which the moose would come down for a swim in the mornings.

Breakfasts were very good and we loved sitting on the porch watching the humming birds.

We spent 2 nights here in the Russian room. Breakfast was awesome! Ian and Penny are wonderful hosts! We loved sitting outside at night looking at the Milky Way and watching shooting stars! Just a little remote for dinner. They do serve dinner, but we declined. We would definitely go back! Be sure and check out all of the art galleries and craft shops nearby! There is a beach close by also!

Room Tip: The African room was a little smaller and did not have satellite TV and no view of the lake.

The room and the location were outstanding. The service was delightful. The owners were very welcoming. We enjoyed a delicious selection of breakfast foods each morning in either the charming dining room or the porch overlooking a placid lake.

We spent our 10th anniversary here -- two nights in Rose Cottage with a fabulous dinner of Chateaubriand prepared by Ian. English Country Garden offers luxury accommodations with warm and gracious hosts, wonderful cooked breakfasts, all in a woods-and-garden setting on the Cabot Trail. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
