Owner description: Remarkable Roman site of a once prosperous town with the capitol, theater and a Punic mausoleum.

Dougga is a must-see for ruins fanatics like me. The ruins are in a excellent state of preservation. In particular, the theatre and the Temple of Jupiter in the forum are quite exquisite. Sitting on the seating in the theatre you can really imagine what it must have been like. There are also numerous smaller details preserved - such as a Roman 10-seater toilet. The surrounding countryside is very scenic, which truly makes these ruins a photographer's delight. if you go in winter, there will be no crowds ( especially at the moment with tourism down in Tunisia). I was able to sit all by myself in the theatre for a while. Allow a good while to visit this site. I was there for around three hours just absorbing the wonderful atmosphere, but could easily have stayed longer.Don't listen to the rubbish about Tunisia not being safe, by the way.

Great Roman site. Loved the in tact ruins and the lack of tourists but that's also bad for the economy. Tourism is off 90% due to instability in the region but it's a great time to go for no crowds. Very safe country, very friendly people.

Amazing Roman ruins, huge site. Because of the unrest in the region, Tunisia being sandwiched between Algeria and Libya, we had the place practically to ourselves. It's a perfect time to visit Tunisia!

This is the most extensive Roman site in the whole of Tunisia and it is as yet only a quarter excavated. It is in a beautiful setting, stretching for miles over rolling hillside. The local guide is excellent and has lots of information to impart. It was one of the highlights of our visit to Tunisia.

Fascinating glimpse into history. To the extent that excavation has been done, it has been done very well - better than Carthage. Impressive site that gives great insight into Roman, and Tunisian, culture over a very long period. Well worth the drive to Dougga.
