“Great hostel in great area of ireland”
Reviewed 27 March 2014

- Top hostel, not too big and very cosy. Great value for money.
- real blankets!!! :-)
- very functional kitchen and great spread for breakfast options
- amazing owner who is well traveled and knows how a hostel should be run, takes no shortcuts and incredibly friendly and helpful
- room was a bit cold due to some temporary timing issues with the thermostat, but owner happily gave us a heater to use.
- location is close to Killarney, perfect as it sits on the ring of Kerry. Close to the gap of dunloe, my favourite spot in the region.
- you would really need a car to get there, but there are some buses that connect it from killarney.

Thank you for staying and reviewing us.

It is great that you have enjoyed your stay with us and I do apologise for the issue with the heating on your stay. As you have written we quickly rectified the issue and also gave you a second heater. We installed new thermostats for energy saving and unfortunately the timer didnt work on this occasion.

You are right in your comments on our location being close to the beautiful Gap of Dunloe which we advise all our guests to have a look at and walk as well through it.

The majority of our guests would have cars but there is also the option of public bus which passes the hostel 4 times a day.

Hope to see you in the future.

Regards

Really nice hostel to stay in!
It is located 15 minutes from Killarney. The bus driver dropped us of right at the hostel.
The hostel is clean and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped.
There is a cosy living room, with a fireplace and a large amount of DVDs.
You can rent bikes.
The breakfast was really nice, with fresh bread and eggs from their own chicken.
The host and his father were really friendly. They made us feel very welcomed.
I would definitely recommend this hostel for staying in Killarney!

Thank you for your great review and for choosing to stay with us.

We have some very friendly bus drivers who will drop you outside the hostel once asked by our guests.

The hostel was our family home so we always like to make people feel welcome and the fire in our sitting room is really appreciated on a cold night in winter.

Thank you for the recommendation and hope to have you back in Ireland in the future.

If you want to stay outside the busy city of killarney, this is the BEST hostel you can find. John is a great host and made everything very easy. It is only a 5 min drive from the city and is a great location for a bike trip through the gap of dunloe.

We really enjoyed our time here. It was clean and homey and easy to find. Definitely stay here!!

It was great to meet you and have you and your wife stay with us.

The town of Killarney can be very busy with tourists so many like to stay in a more rural relaxed place like our hostel only 8 km from Killarney.

We always have high cleaning standards and we are glad you appreciated that.

Thank you for the recommendation and hope to have you back in Ireland in the future.

OK, so here it goes:
1 goat in the yard
7-8 chickens that provide fresh eggs every morning
Beautiful green rolling hills in all four directions
Amazing mountains less than an hour away
comfortable beds and cozy rooms
A fireplace and plenty of board games and a great big kitchen for cooking big meals (we did that more than once, and it was awesome)
CLEAN like no other place we stayed at.

John is a wonderful host - friendly and attentive. He was full of good advice and helpful tips. and was happy to help us arrange transportation to town.

Bottom line- DO NOT MISS

only downside- you might get sucked into this place and miss the rest of Ireland.

Room Tip: We stayed in the 4 person dorm on the right- very nice room

As a hostel owner, I think it is safe to say that my expectations are always very high, and I notice a lot of stuff that some one else might not... Yet I have only great things to say about this amazing place.

We (my husband and I ) arrived pretty late at night, yet we were greeted with the warmest welcome ever.
The place was super clean, there was hot tea waiting for us in the most homey common area I have ever seen... We sat in front of the warm fireplace, and did not want to move anywhere for the whole time we where there...

The kitchen is fully equipped, always clean (Sparkly clean), there where fresh eggs (so cool and tasty!!) every morning, the beds where really comfy, and every room in the hostel is designed to create community and good interaction with the other special guest's that are attracted to this great area.

We traveled a bit in the mountains around and decided that 3 days is clearly not enough for this majestic place.
So we decided that we will be back in the summer for the great hikes, and hope that then we will be able to fight the urge of staying in the great hostel and go out exploring....
Thanks John!!! It really was the best!

Room Tip: I got a tour of the hostel and all the rooms looked great...

I always love to have other hostel owners and staff stay as they are the first to help me improve what I have to offer.

The warm fireplace and large kitchen are often remarked upon and guests appreciate to small homely rural feel to the hostel and the personal attention we try to give all out guests.

You are definitely right that 3 days are not enough for the area.

You can easily fill a 7 day itinerary with things to do and see.

Hope to see you return in the summer.
