“Amazing Views and Fantastic Service”
Reviewed 15 February 2012

Dined at Cable Bay for Valentines, was seated right next to the opening doors with a gorgeous view over the bay. Had a bottle of Cable Bay Chardonnay with Salmon for entree, Chicken for Main and Chocolate Tart for dessert with a flatwhite. After dinner walked around outside looking at the many moving sculptures ($7500 to buy!) and admiring the stunning views. $280 in total

“Great place for dinner”
Reviewed 10 February 2012

My partner and I recently had the opportunity to have dinner at Cable Bay. We shared bottle of an excellent Chardonnay from the winery which went very well with our meals. We had 2 entrees and two mains. The entrees were excellent as were the mains and were characterized by unusual and unexpected but delicious combinations....the mark of a creative kitchen. Service was attentive and unobtrusive

“amazing views, good small plates”
Reviewed 9 February 2012

Cable Bay has amazing views of the bay and Auckland harbor. It's definitely worthwhile to enjoy some appetizers and wine on their patio while taking in the amazing scenery. Cable Bay has a great Viognier and excellent cheese and meat selections. The hummus was a little overly garlicky and the plates were a tad pricey, but it definitely made for a very relaxing and enjoyable afternoon.

And they go so well together. And then there is the view. What a great place to take someone that you want to impress.

“Great food in an idyllic location”
Reviewed 6 February 2012

I find it very hard to credit some of the comments about poor service from recent reviews. Although we had booked weeks before, our unfamiliarity with the island bus timetables meant that we were stuck somewhere in the middle of Waiheke when we should have been arriving and had to leave a message on the Ansaphone. When we arrived quite a bit later than intended we were warmly greeted by name and shown to a table right by the window with a fabulous view of the winery grounds (and highly unusual and elaborate mobiles - on offer to anyone with £40,000 to spare) leading down to the water with the mainland in the distance. That alone would have made my day.

Cooking was ambitious and we enjoyed every dish. I started with spaghettini and prawns, a satisfying portion with ample fish, while my wife's cured beef was a work of art with its decoration of crumbled white cheese and salad leaves. Her fresh snapper, with crisp fried skin, was another gargantuan helping and my roast chicken breast a very succulent plateful. We rounded things off with a shared slice of chocolate tart accompanied by a tart fruit sauce and crumbled marshmallows.

We worked our way through most of the Cable Bay Vineyard wine list which was offered by the glass in matched pairings for each dish. All that it lacked was its own sparkling wine but we enjoyed the rose, the Pinot Gris, both regular and special selection Chardonnays and a Pinot Noir. (Afterwards we availed ourselves of the complementary wine tasting in the adjacent winery and managed to complete the full set.). A very satisfying experience and one which had me wondering how easily we could relocate to New Zealand. Perhaps one of those miserable reviewers would like to do a swap so that he could discover in deepest Norfolk (UK) just what poor service is really like.
