“The tasting bar is great”
Reviewed 22 November 2013

The review is for the tasting rooms and bar. Great wine and great views from the deck across the water to Auckland. Pretty much the best place to start a wine tour. And a relatively easy (a bit up hill and a bit of verge / on road walking) 30 minute walk from the ferry. And once there, there are 2 other vineyards within easy walk. Drinking on site is expensive but the wines are very reasonable to take home.

“Awesome nature and city views over lunch”
Reviewed 22 November 2013

Stopping by Cable Bay for a quit tasting, turned into having a small lunch outside on their verandah - beautiful setting especially on a summery day - some good menu choices and of course lots of wines to choose from. The testing itself was a bit overpriced i feel, but the general ambience and experience was divine.

“Fantastic location but not cheap!”
Reviewed 17 November 2013 via mobile

Ate here on a tour of Waiheke. We were seated at a perfect table - right by the doors leading out to the gardens. The service was really smooth and friendly and the food very well presented. The taste was superb and I couldn't fault this side of things at all. The downside was the workmen walking backwards and forwards in front of the table as well as a 4WD driving up and down the hill...very strange that this would have been allowed to spoil an otherwise perfect view?

We did buy some wine from the vineyard too...pretty reasonably priced and great tasting!

“Beautiful romantic lunch”
Reviewed 15 November 2013

My husband took me here for my birthday lunch. We were lucky that the weather was amazing, which makes the view stand out even more. We were given a table right next to the open doors which was fantastic. The glass doors from the restaurant open out onto a beautiful lawn area spanning down to the ocean.

We had the bread and olive oil and a Duck Pate to start - they were delicious! There was plenty of choice on the menu and the wine list. We chose a nice local Pinot Noir to accompany our meal. For mains I had the fish and my husband had the lamb, they were cooked to perfection! We ordered the additional asparagus and potatoes as side dishes ($10 each) but they were not really needed as the mains were filling enough in themselves.

I thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Cable Bay and it has made me want to go back for more! We also bought 2 really nice bottles of wine to bring home with us from their wine cellar. The wines for purchase are delicious and very reasonably priced.

The only slight downside to the experience was that workman and a guy driving a 4WD were allowed to use the area in front of the restaurant to walk/drive through - and this was a little distracting from the view but other than that - top marks!
