It is true, this winery features one of the best views ever!

We went with some friends for a wine tasting. Even though it was a very busy saturday afternoon the cellar door was nice and quiet. Friendly and knowledged staff provided us with a very nice wine tasting experience as we discovered some very good wines. Viognier and Shiraz above all.

Late harvest Viognier, the sweet one, is not available for tasting unless you buy a glass at the wine bar. Well, we did it and it was well worth the money. Definitely reccommended.

Before leaving the winery, ask the staff about the underground private restaurant room! You'll be amazed!

A group of 40 of us booked for lunch at the casual dining part of the restaurant. The place was very busy and only a handful of wait staff. It took and hour for someone to come and take our order and another hour to get the food. Staff were running around in all directions without any direction. When called one over to ask what is happening with our food as we needed to catch the ferry back to Auckland she seemed flustered and didn't know the answer just to tell me the kitchen is busy with orders. The food they serve at the casual restaurant is dips, bread, chips and sliders, I can't understand why it would take an hour to deliver that type of food? The food when finally arrived was underwhelming, the atmosphere chaotic and service non existent. The bathroom was a sad reflection on the facility. A beautiful building gorgeous views but messy facilities. I will not be going back.

Fabulous location, we snuggled up in the bean bags on the lawn with rugs and had some delicious nibbles to share. Unfortunately they didn't have any of their own bubbles so we had to drink Marlborough bubbles. Great spot with great service. Definitely worth the visit.

We tried both the Fine Dining Restaurant and the Bar for lunch on two separate days. While the restaurant was good (we had the hare ravioli and the beef main) the Bar's sliders (50% beef and 50% bacon) and the truffle french fries with aioli were excellent! If you are going to eat at Cable Bay, I would recommend skipping the more expensive fine dining and just do the amazing sliders and fries! They may be the best thing we have eaten in New Zealand.

I only have one good experience to share. The view was good, not very good or excellent just good. Around NZ there are hundreds of equal & better views available.
I found the host arrogant & aloof. They have a strange ritual that I had not come across before (in NZ or any other part of the world) they keep your credit card until you pay. Not just an in-print or record (like when you check into a hotel) but the card. No explanation provided. I asked for it back & the "barman/waiter" got arrogant as if it was his property. I'm not sure if this practice is legal? I'm not sure what security they provide for your card while it is being held or what compensation they offer if it is stolen or used by a staff member as he was just plainly rude & in need of good dose of customer service relations & training.
The food was average, small portions at large prices & the tea was served "cool"
It doesn't matter like the other 70% of customers who say nothing - I will not return.
