Great out of town base for sightseeing

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 20 May 2024via mobile
Staff are really friendly, great deal with meal deal.
Well placed as a base for travelling - Eden project is 10 min drive away.
It’s out of the main town of St Austell so you need a car.
Breakfast and dinner are good quality and good portions.
Definitely recommend and would use again.

Nice clean room, a bit cold and only have an electric heater in room, though it did warm up fairly quicky. Restaurant good value as well, especially with the value meal deals. Front of house staff good.
Run out of things to say but have got to have 200 characters as minimum.

Room tip: Take advantage of meal deals.

Needed this stay unfortunately due to a bereavement and just wanted a hotel that could provide a clean room and decent bed at an affordable price. Was not let down comfy bed, clean room and bathroom with plenty of hot water for a bath, much as I would expect from Premier inn. Location was good and view to boot of the sea as we were on the first floor. Staff were lovely and friendly and helpful. Only downside is it doesn’t have its own restaurant but they have a pub on the site where you can book and pay through premier inn. While we were there weather was not good and it was blowing a gale and raining so not great when we had to go outside to get breakfast and evening meal. We had a meal the night of arrival and I had a lovely meal unfortunately for my husband not so much as they got the order wrong and by the time his meal arrived I had finished mine and I am a slow eater. We had cooked breakfast the following morning and food was nice but plates were cold and therefore overall so was food but was cooked nicely. No orange juice on either day for hubby but coffee for me was lovely. We had two breakfasts there paid for in advance when hotel was booked.

We've just returned from a fantastic three-night stay at Premier Inn, St. Austell. The reception staff were very helpful and friendly. We were also able to check-in several hours early for £10, which was a great start to our trip.

The rooms were very clean, and the beds were super comfortable. It was a quiet hotel, and we all slept really well. The pub and restaurant next door does a good breakfast and is in a handy location for drinks in the evening before bed.

We'd also highly recommend the Salty Bay Pizza Kitchen, which is on the business park just behind the hotel and about a 3-minute walk away. The pizza there is exceptional. There is a lot of choice for vegetarians and vegans, too. You can even build your own pizza if you're a fussy eater, and there is a nice eating area with draft and bottled beers, etc, or you can take it away.

The only thing we would say is that if you're planning on using taxis to get in and out of the town centre, then book them in advance. We had an absolute nightmare the first night as we called about 12 companies, and none had availability or were willing to come out. The route back up to the hotel is steep and wouldn't be suitable for older people or anyone who struggles with inclines.

We got a list of taxi numbers from reception when we checked in, so when you arrive it's worth planning your evening around getting in and out of the centre if you're aiming to have a couple of drinks and food in St Austell itself.

If you're driving everywhere anyway, then this won't matter as the hotel is well placed for exploring other areas of Cornwall. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again in the future.

Room tip: Book taxis in advance if you're planning on staying for food or drinks in St. Austell in the evening.

Room 139. Ventilation system fan is so loud it kept me awake (its sounds like a jet engine) Could not hear TV above the noise!! Instructions for ventilation in room but wall controller did not work. Smoke detector has red flashing light blinking all night!! Staff did turn the unit off but did not change rooms as staff said another room could be the same!! TV not properly tuned in some channels no sound some missing. Hot water at basin in bathroom, but only warm water at the shower & bath. (suspect anti scald valve set too low) One spotlight not working. Breakfast disappointing. continental was fine but hot offering was luke warm!! Hot food under warming lights but staff had placed plates over them, so the plates over food was hot but food only warm and bacon cold!! Bit of an own goal??

Stayed as was attending wedding nearby. Receptionists friendly and polite, room basic but clean, bed comfortable and shower powerful so it was just fine.
