I stayed at the ECC for the 3 days programme and enjoyed it immensely.
One of the best aspects was the opportunity to sit and watch the elephants from the comfort of a little tower: just me and them. The interaction with the animals is great and you can choose what suits you in terms of the activities you want to take on.
The hospital (Karin was really helpful!) and the museum are great places where gather all the information you need about the Asian elephants and the amazing job the NGO and the centre are doing. It takes a bit of time to get the whole picture but once you get it, you understand that your stay at the centre will make a difference. It was good to talk to various members of staff (Joseph and Melanie were really passionate about their jobs) and other guests at the restaurant which is also the meeting point for the majority of activities.
I had a unique experience and I could carry on talking about it for a while! In terms of accommodation, the bungalow is basic but clean and really welcoming. The toilets/shower facilities are clean. The food is great and plentiful. The centre is a place where you can really chill out and take in the wonderful surroundings.
I was picked up at Sayabouly station even earlier than my schedule arrival time and taken to the lake where one member of staff was awaiting for me.
I can only praise the work Elephant Asia is doing (take a look at the wonderful book they have at the restaurant to understand how everything came along).
I would recommend this experience as part of responsible travelling. You will leave enriched and content. Go there!
