Description: The Venissa Ristorante at the Venissa Wine Resort on the island of Mazzorbo in the Venetian Lagoon has become a sought-after destination for local and international foodies. The restaurant is unique and pioneering in its approach to cuisine: four young chefs who have worked in Michelin-starred restaurants work together in the kitchen to create dishes that highlight traditional recipes and take them to creative, contemporary heights. The restaurant strictly adheres to the farm-to-table philosophy not in order to follow any international trends, but thanks to the lagoon’s immense bounty. Guests have the pleasure of dining on amazing and unique shellfish from the local waters, rare algae that is fresh, crispy, and palate-cleansing, and endless fresh vegetables from the garden located directly next to the restaurant. It is not uncommon to see a chef run out of the kitchen and into the garden during dinner service to gather more of a vegetable whose supply is running low. The restaurant and wine resort are located just 40 minutes by ferry from Venice and are a perfect setting for those travelers looking for an authentic dining experience removed from the tourist masses.

“Exuberant experience!”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

If you are in Venice and appreciate delicious food, don't miss this extraordinarily wonderful experience. Not only was every dish (we took the 8 course menu - and were server 10!!) surprisingly well composed and prepared, but the waitors and the chef de cuisine were so kind and constantly alert to our needs. On top of this the place itself in the midst of a garden and small vineyard contributed with an atmosphere of tranquility and beauty.
Definately my most supreme dining experience in several years!

“Well worth a splurge”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

We pulled into the private mooring spot in our rented houseboat and felt like the privileged...which we continued to feel as our meal began. It's a small space, with a ratio of something like 1:2 staff to guests--and you feel that. It's an intimate experience, from the small space and walled surroundings, and the pleasure of watching a chef walk out and pick from the garden the things that will soon dress your plate. We reserved just two days before, and sat down as the restaurant opened--turned out to be a few minutes before they were quite ready to seat us, so they put us in the lounge with a glass of prosecco. Nice way to "kill" time. We did the six course tasting menu with paired wines and were thrilled at the ingenuity of the tastes and the use of local and seasonal ingredients. It's a truly unique experience, with tastes you might not (will not?) find elsewhere. Goh fish? Sea asparagus? It's all presented simply and well, without flourish so much as just great service. It's not about flash, it's about good cooking and imagination. And it's a treat to be on one of the lesser visited Venetian islands (without your own boat, take a water taxi, or a vapo to Burano and cross the bridge for an easy ten minute walk), and to be having this entirely special, very specialized experience. A memorable meal for two foodies. Be willing to spend some time and money.

“Earnt respect”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

We watched as the chefs came out to the large garden to pick herbs, infact, several times during our meal and this was indicative of the whole experience. Negatives first: wrong menu given, ran out of some main courses, water and wine was refreshed and bottles changed before they were emptied. Positives: the location on a large working garden in Mazzorba is romantic, idyllic and dramatic. The food in general, was impressive and highlighted the difference between the Michelin aspiring chef at last nights Paris meal and tonights established starred chef. When they ran out of some courses, such as the black squid ink pasta, they substituted normal pasta which was very tasteless. The deer was superb, the other courses subtly textured, but the serving as alacarte were small.

“Great restaurant on Island”
Reviewed 8 June 2014 via mobile

We traipsed out in the rain on the vaporetta. Got soaked but this did not spoil our time at this lovely restaurant. Incredible location. Great friendly staff. Excellent well presented innovative food. Wines of distinction. Definitely one to return to.

“Even better nine months later”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

We first visited Venissa last September, and enjoyed it so much that we decided to return for lunch during our current trip to Venice. The food is nothing short of superb and the atmosphere is incredibly relaxing. Mazzorbo is a world away from Venice and Venissa clearly has earned its Michelin star. Highly recommended.
