I have not tried the restaurant but I have been at the bar. The location is good because is at seaside and you can enjoy the sunset, a walk in the beach and take a bath if you want to. The specialty of the bar is a coconut filled with different kinds of liquors with coconut water and milk. There are karaoke nights, order appetizers from the bar, a couple of pool tables, a big parking lot with a shuttle to the lobby...

SUMMATION: They have excellent bar drinks, good food, and very good service. There is an incredible sunset view from their patio.

NAME: La Ana de Cofresi Restaurant [1]

LOGO: Surfing pirate holding a saber and the special drink

TITLE: “A Pleasant Time at a Fond Place” [Tripadvisor, review #78, 19 June 2014]

TELEPHONE: (787) 823-2450

WEB PAGE: www.villacofresi.com

RESERVATIONS: are available

HOURS OF OPERATION: 8-11 am, 5–10 pm (Monday-Friday); noon-10 pm (Saturday & Sunday)

OWNERS: The Caro family has owned and operated this restaurant since 1965.

LOCALITY: ‪PR 115, km 12.0‬, ‪Hotel Villa Cofresi‬, Rincon, Puerto Rico ‪00677‬

LATITUDE, LONGITUDE: 18°18’25.1”N, 67°14’2.6”W

DIRECTIONS: See their sign and turn west off PR 115.

PARKING: There is usually space in their parking lot.

VIEW: They have a wonderful sunset over the sea view.

AMBIANCE: Elegant casual with locals and tourists

AIR-CONDITIONED: I assume so, but I have never seen the inside the restaurant.

OUTSIDE SEATING: We always come here with friends and sit at a table with an umbrella, beside the bar, and in front of the ocean.

LAYOUT: Walk in the front, through the open lobby, by the pool, and to the right of the big bar.

SPECIALS: They have a happy hour.

BEER: Our Coronas were cold and served in the bottles with Caribbean Lime wedges.

DRINKS: They have a world famous “Pirate” Drink in a coconut shell (Coco Pirata). It is served at the Hotel’s Beach Bohio, but can be ordered in the restaurant. I have never tried it. [2]

BAR: Their El Bohio is a full service beach bar and grill open from 10 am to midnight every day.

MENU ITEMS: Rather limited with a few steaks, chicken, pork chops, lobster, shrimp, fish (snapper or Dolphin), usual appetizers, asopao (rice stew), mofungo (mashed plantain with garlic), but no crab, conch, octopus, chapin (trunkfish), grouper, or Hogfish. Their menu is on their web page.

WAITER: Our waiter was very entertaining. He could not be very prompt with this crowd, but did his best. They never have enough waiters for the patio service.

APPETIZERS: The surullitos [3] were unfortunately sweet. My grouper pieces were fresh and quite good.

SALAD: My First Mate had a “healthy” chicken salad. [4]

COST COMPARISON: Their prices are in line with many local restaurants, but not cheap.

NOISE LEVEL: Fairly quite and calm on the patio, but loud at the pool. Fortunately, the pool is on the other side of the large bar. Apparently, loud and boisterous later.

COMPARISONS: Their lobster in butter sauce is good, but uses inferior meat with some irritating connective tissues. Everyone else uses better pieces of meat. Even the empanadilla stands.

REVIEWS: rated Excellent, 5 out of 5, 490 reviews (SAL); Very Good, 4 out of 5, 196 reviews (Tripadvisor); Very Good, 4 out of 5, 25 reviews (Yelp)

HISTORY: The local Caro family has owned and run this restaurant for 49 years. This is also the oldest hotel in Rincon (built before the hotel rush after 1968). La Ana de Cofresi is one of the first restaurants in Rincón.
It started in 1965. During that time it was very rustic, with only a corrugated zinc roof held up by palm tree trunks and no walls. They have served the special Pirate Drink since 1965. The restaurant features a mural of Cofresi’s history created by Juan Diaz, a Puerto Rican artist, in 1978.

[1] “La Ana” is the name of the ship of the famous Puerto Rican pirate, Roberto Cofresi who generously shared his loot with the poor.
[2] A real Pirate does not partake of a “Pirate” Drink any more than he would order “Umbrella” Drinks, but many people rave about it. Ingredients: Coconut water, condensed milk, chocolate liqueur, cinnamon, and several boozes. The simple, roadside version of rum in a green coconut is called “Coco Loco.”
[3] These are fried cornmeal-cheese fritters. I like the sweet ones less.
[4] Chicken at a seafood and steak place? She should have been keelhauled.

We hung out at the bar during the afternoon and they have great service and drinks with gorgeous views! We went back for dinner that night and it was awesome! I had a filet that was perfect (and I'm a filet snob) and husband had fish that was amazing- plus above average service! Overall great experience!
