We stayed at Sand Bay for a Twixmas break - there are plenty of activities to keep you busy the whole break without having to go out in the cold! The indoor swimming pool is heated with gym, jaccuzzi, and steam room. There is a games room with snooker, bowls, bowling, ping pong, darts and an outdoor golf course if the weather's ok. We had a good time, the staff are friendly and the food is very good. Chalets are basic, have tea making facilities, and are lovely and warm with clean towels every day (except Wednesday). Although we have been to Sand Bay lots of times, the entertainment seems to be geared to the "older guests". I am 60 and my partner is 65 but we felt like we were amongst the "younger" people there! Dancing is mainly sequence, ballroom and linedancing. The resident band need to update their music a bit and get everyone on the dancefloor! We did have a good time though and will definitely go back again.

My partner booked a weekend here as a birthday surprise for me, it was the Irish music weekend. After walking the significant distance from the car park to reception, we were greeted by a huge queue of guests checking in. Once we received the keys to our chalet, things really went downhill. The bedroom was furnished with furniture that was scratched and extremely dated. The bed linen was stained and very poor quality. The bathroom (there are only 2 rooms in the chalets) smelt like a public toilet with black mouldy grouting and a lino floor. The windows were metal and drafty and the net curtain was torn. I actually cried at the prospect of spending my birthday in such a dismal place and the overwhelming smell of damp didnt help! We decided that despite having paid over £300 in advance, we wouldnt stay and left immediately. i went to reception to inform them of the accommodation failings and was left waiting whilst the lady went to speak to someone in the back. We left without a refund as we couldnt get out of the place quick enough. To charge what they do for the appalling accommodation is criminal. I dont mind basic but there is no excuse for dirty! We found a Premier Inn for that night and then travelled down to Lynmouth and stayed in a very nice hotel for the rest of the weekend. Be very, very wary of staying here!!

Many thanks for your comments. May I say that I agree with you!! The accommodation lets the whole place down a little. I would not agree that it is so bad.... but it could be better. SO... we have now refurbished, including bathrooms, 36 units and are continuing at a rate of 5 units per week. Soon all will have shower, new furniture and bedding and we hopefully will be able to please you, and the many more customers that love what we do and make do with the rooms. If you wish to book again please request a refurbished room. They are nice!!!!

We have just returned from 5 day turkey & tinsel break with a small group and although the week in itself was ok the accomodation was adequate apart from having all baths and no showers which made it difficult for our less mobile clients, food was not very imaginative and the veggie in our group had little or no options other than salad bar. The head chef made her a different breakfast but the remainder was what you see.
We didnt get to see the entertainment in the main room as everyone saved seats although the staff deny this happens, the manager promised to find us enough seats for our group to sit together and subsequently we are still waiting!!! The staff allowed people to block aisles and fire doors propped open to squeeze more in. we discussed this with the manager and it turned out he wasnt the manager and more the night porter and when we discussed the fire hazard he simply walked away....we ended up in harlequins bar and enjoyed the bit of entertainment there. We felt if there was a fire to break out at least we would have escaped safely rather than being crushed in the main entertainment room.
we seriously wont be going back again and would not recommend this holiday to anyone under the age of 60 unless you like endless ballroom dancing and the older company....

Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate it in order to improve the service and the experience our guests have on their holidays.

Pontins have recently bought sand bay and we are investing a lot of time improving the parks facilities and service to ensure guests have the best holidays possible.

Our restaurant is now self service and offers a variety of meals including vegetarian options alongside a salad bar.

We are now operating full entertainment in both venues, this helps us to ensure that no fire exits are ever blocked and there is adequate seating for all guests to enjoy the entertainment.

I hope you return to sand bay in 2015 and let pontins restore your faith in the park.

Spent a long weekend here for a *Thank you for the music* weekend. Entertainment was really good, as were the entertainment team. First class performance by all. It was lovely to see so many young friendly team members working so professionally. Meal times were a little rushed to say the least. I felt real sorry for our waiter.....Jack....A foreign speaking young man who was run headless trying to whizz out a three-course meal in less than 30 minutes for what seemed to be a total mass of diners. We did not have chance to sit at the dining table before we were asked our meal choice from the menu on the table. This was FAST FOOD in the greatest sence. Food generally served only warm.....Mmmmm....somewhat to be disired! Chalets just about acceptable....mine stank of cigarette smoke! Could not wait to get home and wash my clothes to get rid of the smell that seemed to linger in everything. Overall for what we paid entertainment was great.. However, accommodation not so good neither was the dining experience.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us.

Pontins have recently bought sand bay and we are improving the holiday experience constantly.

In regards to the restaurant, we are now operating a self service restaurant with a wider time range for you to enjoy your meal at your own convenience.

We are currently working very hard improving the existing rooms and also investing in room rooms and improving the existing facilities on park.

We hope yo see you in the 2015 season
