Our room was freshly decorated spotless clean. New carpet. Lovely..but don't for how long, as the room opposite had been refurbished and on our last night the hotel was allowing a dog to stay in it.. What a shame .!!!!! I m sure most people would not like to stay in that room after .. The staff on reception were very helpful./friendly. The ladies serving meals were lovely too. Going back to our room . I think it was fitted out for men only .. I asked for a hair dryer at reception which was promptly given thank you . Although it should of been in the room. No shelf to put anything on,in the room, although there was room. Now I had a hair dryer but no mirror. There was mirrors but not by a plug socket. I asked if the hotel could get something sorted for me the next day . I said I was happy to muddle through till then..never did get one .. So bought one myself... There was no where to hang clothes, lovely new hangers in a small cupboard were provided. Our room was checked over each day towels folded , and a complimentary chocolate each day nice touch.
The meals are very good . Although a strange set up unless you were ordering from the menu. The signs above the hot counter did not explain anything to us .. Confusing ?
Breakfast was poor quality and poor value @ £16. Over done bacon, greasy mushrooms. Cold toast , cheap yoghurts .No milk given to us with our tea so had to ask . After 1st asking for milk for cereals too.Had breakfast one morning did not bother again. A noise from a machine or something was groaning all the time .. No one made any attempt to turn it off even though people were talking and saying how horrid it was . What looked like the better place to relax was left unused and set out for a wedding .. Never seen one happen though . During our stay. We sat in the reception area one evening but when we returned to our room we smelt of smoke because the smoking area was directly outside the reception area. So we had to sit on it and then had to walk through it too . Not nice when you don't smoke. will not be returning !

Myself and my husband stayed at The Commodore for a 4 night break recently. After driving through a terrific thunderstorm we had a warm friendly welcome from the receptionist and shown to our room.A lovely comfortable room with great views over Sand Bay beach, every where was was lovely and clean and fresh with a modern bathroom, tea and coffee making facilities.Breakfast was served in the bar area by very pleasant staff who took you order from the very extensive breakfast menu, our food arrived promptly cooked to perfection. This is a well run hotel and the staff go out of their way to make sure your stay is pleasant,we ate in the restaurant on a couple of nights and our meals were very nice.Alas our last night was spoilt by thoughtless boy racers who congregated outside the hotel until 4-30am who insisted revving their engines with their friends cheering them on.This is not any fault of the hotel, but I don't think we were the only guests who were disturbed and it didn't put us off returning to this hotel in the future.True it could do with a little TLC here and there but it has plenty of old world charm.

My husband and myself have just returned from a 4 night break at the commodore, the room was clean and everything you would need lovely white fluffy towels, tea and coffee , hair dryer and TV . The breakfast were delicious we also ate in the bar every night and everything was spot on reasonably priced and freshly cooked . And all of the staff were polite and friendly. We will certainly return if we are in the area again .

We stayed here over this last weekend (14th June) as there was a music event nearby. We arrived early and had a drink outside. It is set in such a peaceful area of Sandbay,so very relaxing. The carvery was being served and looked superb,we could hear the diners compliments too. Our double room had everything we could have wanted inc comfy bed, fluffy towels, lots of tea coffee biscuits, hairdryer and compimentary toiletries. The staff were all very helpful and courteous.

Room Tip: On booking ask for a seaview room.

I have read some negative comments regarding The Commodore Hotel, Sand Bay and have to say some of them were justified, particularly the dirty windows and tired appearance.

I organised a function there last weekend with visitors from around the country. Without exception all complimented us on the quality of the food, the standard of the service, the very reasonable drinks prices and the manner in which the staff dealt with us. All our pre planning was executed to our total satisfaction and guests were quick to point out that they can see changes have been made since their last visit.

Having met the new owner, I know he has plans for the hotel and I can only compliment him for the work carried out so far, including replacing many of the windows, and in such a short time. We all look forward to seeing the finished ‘product’.

Room Tip: The front rooms have a sea view

We stayed at this hotel over a very wet Bank Holiday. Yes the hotel needs a revamp (Windows etc) but It has a lot going for it. The breakfasts were excellent one of the best we have had recently. The food at night was also very good either the Carvery or your choice from the menu, service was excellent. This is an ideal family hotel with the beach right on your door step.

We found the staff very good especially the Manager who tried to solve one of our problems. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, it has a charm of it's own

Room Tip: We had room 14 which would be very good for a family

Had our wedding here on Friday 30-5-14, it was absolutely superb. The whole day was lovely and a very big thank you to Jackie who organised everything for us from the beginning making our life so much easier and stress free. She knew exactly what we needed even when we were undecided. And thank you to Peter who not only organised the ceremony room but the room for the meal it was perfect. He made sure everything ran smoothly on the day too. We can not express how much we appreciated all your help and input for our special day. If anyone is thinking of a venue we would definitely recommended you go and have a look and chat to these special people. Nothing was ever a problem for them, they will work with you and make your day superb just as odours was.
