My husband and i decided to have a night away with our very well behaved Yorkie...we found the commodore on-line and booked via phone. The lady on the phone booked us into the "Cottage" as we had a dog.Dogs are NOT allowed into the main hotel ....WHY?....anyway we accepted this until we were shown to the "cottage"...basically the dog house n the back of the hotel which you have to walk around the hotel to go and fetch your brekkie? The room was dated and in desperate need of some double glazing as i had to put a wellington boot at the door to stop it bumpin all night! although the room was just about clean i can honestly say i have thrown out better mattresses!! dare i go on......I was more annoyed that Pets are definatley Not welcome! we checked out and fortunately did not pay in full as the receptionist was most understanding but had the feeling i was not the first to moan and i do not dought it will be the last!..

We were worried at the reviews we read on this site after making the booking. However we found the hotel fine. We liked the quiet location with great sea views and walking by a deserted bay. The staff were friendly and helpful if a little stretched at times. The food was excellent and the 2 for one dining very good value. However we can understand that it's not suitable if you want to be near the crowds and activities of Weston.
The hotel certainly is due for some updating and several of the double glazed panels need replacing, but this did not spoil are enjoyable stay. Would go again.

My wife and I stayed here overnight 23rd/24th May 2009 for a wedding fuction.
The room we had was tired in decor and there was plenty of black mould around the edge of the bath.
We had a meal around 5.00pm and some children on our table threw a fair bit of food around. When we went to the dining room the following morning, the food was still on the floor.
We ordered breakfast at 8.50am...at 9.40am, after we had asked where it was, it was brought out. It was so hot we couldn't eat it...I waould say it had been nuked in
the microwave for speed.
Alcohol...well...£7.45 for a pint and a glass of wine...
At £70 for a night...we won't be going back.

Arriving after dark we were unable to view the exterior of the Hotel but the car park was full with only one space remaining, which usually is a good sign. It transpired that there was a function in progress ( a popular venue apparently), reception was unattended and we were met with a welcome sign instructing us to telephone for assistance - not ideal.
We were met by a receptionist who gave the impression that she wanted to be elsewhere.
The hotel decor was very 80's and the accommodation corridors were reminiscent of an old people's home, dark brown doors, covered in scratch marks.
Corridors were dark in some places due to blown light bulbs.
The room itself was very "tired" (a phrase often repeated in the reviews for this hotel), several walls in the room displayed marked damp patches and mould on the surface - not just spots but large areas. The bathroom again had evident damp walls and the grouting was stained and discoloured.
All the heating was off in the room but were able to over ride this and the room soon warmed up.BUT ..... we then discovered that we had no hot water in the bathroom.A call to reception was met with "we have a problem with the bolier, its being fixed now" then the receptionist hung up. Having no hot water at 11.15pm we gave up .By morning we still had no hot water and resorted to boiling the kettle for hot water to wash with.
We did not have breakfast as eating in the establishment that had no hot water did not appeal.
By our return that evening the hot water was back so we did stay for our second planned night (had it been a private trip then we would have moved on without doubt).
We did receive a discount on our stay due to the lack of hot water however this establishment and its staff does nothing for the British Tourist trade - foreigners would run a mile.

My wife and I stayed here for two days in April 09 ...Its a well situated hotel on the edge of Weston and a walk along the log infested beach was enjoyable although the tide seemed to stay out for ever ! On appearance the hotel could do with a lick of paint and new signage but there ends the down side..we found the room very clean and comfortable , the staff very friendly and helpful and polite , the carvary was very good value as is the steak I have to add :-) Breakfast was superb with a good choice of everything and having James Dean peering at us along side Humphrey Bogart added to the atmosphere of the place ! We will definitely book again sometime next year as we thought it gave very good value for money all round .
One gripe for the management was staff smoking outside of the reception entrance ....Moan over .

We stayed at this hotel during the Christmas holidays and although we read bad reviews, we were pleasantly surprised. Although the decor was a bit outdated and the reception could certainly have done with a kick into the 21st century (with it's puke orange coloured walls and pink floral sofas), the receptionist was friendly and very helpful. We were offered to reserve a table in the cavery (unfortunately the a la carte restaurant was being used for a function) which we accepted as the 2-4-1 offer available was very good value. We were then shown to our room which was also a bit out dated (although not as bad as the reception!) but it was very clean and substantial enough for the price we had payed for it. The cavery meal was excellent and the bar had a great atmosphere. The homemade cheesecake we had after was delicious. We were a bit apprehensive at first seeing that the girls working in the cavery were so young, but were very pleasantly surprised at how friendly they were and the service was excellent. It was also nice to be served by someone English for a change! We found the bed was comfortable and the room made a pretty good stay. Although the only complaint was the shower was a bit cold, which we informed reception on check out the next day. We also managed to see the head chef and compliment her on her delicious cheesecake! Overall we had a lovely stay and will defiantly be returning again soon!

Having read other reviews we were somewhat apprehensive as to what we would find We need not have worried.

From the initial greeting at reception through to our departure we were more than satisfied with the service given by all members of staff in all departments.

The room may have been a little dated in decor but was very clean and pleasant to be in.

We had an a la carte meal and also bar meal both of which were excellent as were the staff. Breakfast choice was good and there again the staff were very friendly and so very flexible.

We shall be returning.
