“noise instead of promised peaceful place”
Reviewed 11 January 2012

hotel is quite old already. Can be seen in the rooms as it starts to be worn out. The bathtub was leaking badly. Rooms are big.
Food in the hotelrestaurant, which is the only place where you can get food, is below average. Had no other choice than to eat there 4 times and never happy.
Hotel has a noice problem with locals who use the chainsaw in the river valley right in front of the hotel to cut their wood. So its not enjyoyable to relax in the spa, which otherwise would be nice.
Besides its not nice or relaxing to have a chain saw as wake up call.
Be aware of that!!
If you make a reservation, be aware, if you reserve one of the lower bungalows, you will have to climb more than 100 stairs to the pool, breakfast or lobby.
So, I would definitly not call this a romantic getaway for couples.

The location of Bali Masari Villas is wonderful if you don't mind being away from it all. It is a beautiful spot, with great accomodation, a heavenly pool, a perfectly located spa a reasonable restaurant and fantastic service.

If you want a relaxing holiday away from the hustle and bustle then you will not be dissappointed. If you would prefer to be close to restaurants, beaches and nightlife, then it is not for you.

If you have hired a car then you will have no problem getting out and about. However the hotel allocates you with a taxi driver "On Call" for the week so if you have not hired a car, then this is a lazy option.

There are organised trips through the hotel or you can agree a price with the taxi driver to take you wherever you wish.

We even got an invite to dine at the taxi driver's house, which gives an insight into how the locals live.

We enjoyed it imensely and found the staff and management to be the perfect hosts. We would probably not return because it is "Too far out"

Room Tip: The resort is built on a terrace and so the lower down you go, the further you have to climb back to...

Our holiday in Bali, with our two children needed to be a very special one; my wife and I were celebrating our 25th anniversary and now that our son has turned 20 it was likely that this was to be the last holiday that we took together. We wanted to travel to Bali as it was a part of the world we had never been to before and our choice of accommodation was going to be very important to our memories. Looking back, the choice of Bali Masari Villas could not have been bettered.

The complex is situated about a 20 minute drive from a major beach resort. The villas are surrounded by vegetation and overlooking a river - the views from our veranda were stunning. In all honesty our jaws dropped as we walked into our villa, designed in a traditional Balinese style and well equipped, we could not have hoped for anything more relaxing to stay in. The resort itself is small but includes a 15m swimming pool, a well-equipped spa and a pleasant restaurant where we had breakfast each day and often ate in the evening.

The Villa location is ideal to visit most of the sites from the south and east of the island. The northern sites such as the volcanoes and coast are a two hour drive, but with so much to see en route that you enjoy the journey as much as the destination. From Bali Masari we visited Bali Zoo; Bali Safari Park; Bali Bird and Reptile Park; the Temple on the Lake; the Temple by the Sea; a Sacred Monkey Forest; Bali Treetops Adventures and Bali Dolphins, as well as diving around a wreck at Tulamben. There was still time to sunbathe on the beach and enjoy a massage at the spa of course. At the end of the two weeks we had run out of time and still had a list of places we wanted to go to next time we visited Bali.

At Bali Masari, all of the staff that we met were very helpful and always polite and pleasant. From our collection at the airport to the daily cleaning of our villa we could not fault the customer service in any way. If you have never driven in Bali, our advice is “don’t”. Instead you can arrange a car and driver through the villa who will take you anywhere on the island that you want. This can even work out cheaper than hiring a car yourself, but more importantly the driver will find many places for you to see that otherwise you may have missed. Our driver, Wayan Metro made sure we saw many interesting things and overall was an amazing source of information and help. Probably the best example is that after our visit to the monkey forest our son needed to get a jab when a monkey nipped him with its teeth. Wayan took us to two hospitals to get the vaccination that evening, even though it was late and he had long finished for the day. Moreover he refused to be paid for the work!

One or two things to be aware of, the cooking facilities are fairly simple in the villas, kettle and microwave, so expect to eat out most evenings. The restaurant is reasonably priced and will bring food to your villa upon request, all of the meals we had were well prepared and enjoyable. Each villa does have a well-stocked and reasonably priced minibar with snacks, water, soda and beer etc readily available.

You will need a car or driver if you are staying at Bali Masari, but look upon that as a bonus as you still get to see all that you want to, but from a breath taking setting.

I can’t recommend the resort more for couples or families. Use it as a base to visit the island or as somewhere to recover from the nightlife. It’s perhaps not ideal if you want to spend your entire holiday on a beach or in clubs, planning to sleep through the day, but for those wanting to sample everything else that Bali offers, its perfect.

We have been to Bali 5 times but this is the first time we visited Bali Masari Resort & Spa. The Manager was on hand to greet us on arrival & he was there again to say good-bye. All staff at the Resort are friendly, courteous and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are spacious and extremely clean. Service really excellent. We will be back.

Room Tip: For older people or if you have trouble climbing stairs, it would be advisable to choose a villa nea...

The most amazing place. We were due to stay here 2 nights but ended up there for 4. They made a birthday cake for my partner, got upgraded for no extra charge and the offers at the spa are great. The hotel manager was friendly and had a great selection of Steven segal movies to watch!

We stayed at Bali Masari in June 2011. This was our second trip to the resort and it certainly won't be our last.
The location is ideal for those looking for a quiet break in a peaceful and luxurious setting. If bright lights, bars and clubs are your reasons for going to Bali you're in the wrong place.
Only about 30 minutes drive from the airport on the way to Ubud will find you at the large, open air reception that overlooks the enormous main swimming pool. The staff are polite and attentive and nothing is too much trouble for them.
The resort itself only has 12 villas. 8 have 2 bedrooms and the other 4 are singles. Each has it's own private plunge pool and balcony overlooking an impossibly lush valley with a small, fast flowing river at it's base.
The villas are beautifully appointed with indoor/outdoor bathrooms, satellite TV, mini-bar, kitchenette and very comfortable king size beds.
The restaurant is very good with a wide range of Western and Indonesian food. I celebratred my birthday during this visit and my wife asked the staff to prepare a special dinner.
Well, we asked for special and we got it, Balinese Duck marinated in spices, wrapped in banana leaves and slow roast for 24 hours. It is one of the best meals I have ever eaten. This was part of a 3 course meal served at a special table set up beside the swimming pool. The entire area had been decorated in traditional style for the occasion and they had even made me my own Birthday cake.
The price for all of this? - US$50
We visited the spa twice during our stay. The setting is wonderful and the massage is incredible. Try the 1 hour traditional Balinese - Great.
The resort can easily arrange transport for you to anywhere or organise hire cars, scooters etc. but the walk into Sukawati is a leisurely 20 minutes along small village lanes where the locals will wave and smile and try their English on you. If you can respond with a few words in Balinese you will instantly gain new friends.
The reward for the walk is a small town with a local market and a more touristy (but well priced) arts market as well as countless small shops and Warung style restaurants.
Trips to Ubud and Sanur for the day or for dinner are simple, cheap and provide a change from the resort menu if you're staying for more than a few nights. Ask the resort to arrange for "Astra" to drive you. He is exceptional. We have now had him as our driver/guide for 3 years. He lives a few hundred metres from Bali Masari.
My wife and I never go on holiday to the same place twice (there are far too many places to in the world to visit in one lifetime), Bali Masari is the exception. We'll be back again next year.

Room Tip: All the rooms are very private with views.
