“Fantastic Getaway”

Shelter Bay is a fabulous hidden treasure! From March 2013 - July 2013 the managers and staff took care of my fellow colleagues and me to whatever extent we needed. The food at the restaurant was top-notch. The regular menu was fabulous, definitely the most filling gourmet food I've ever had. The daily specials were unique, well thought out and absolutely delicious.

Although I was in the country on business, I will definitely be back for a vacation, and Shelter Bay is the ONLY choice for accommodations I will consider.

Having had oru yacht on the hard for 18th months, we had no choice but to seek accomadation while we worked on her. Chris was the answer!! We were looked after like family and the chefs Marcia and Damian catered for all my needs due to the fact of my seafood fish allergy. Nothing was a problem for them. Bless you both!!! The room was lovely facing the marina and after a hards day work to sit on the balcony and enjoy the view with a sundowner and listen to the howler monkies, just rounded it off. Chris will go out of his way to take are of you , bless you Chris.!! This is a must for all to experience even if it is a night that is needed off of the boat. Thanks again to everyone at Shelter bay marina hotel and restaurant!!!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the marina are best

We arrived late at the marina after our canal transit and ready for a celebratory dinner. Chris, The Dock's manager, did yeoman’s work despite the short notice and arranged a special, full-course meal for us aboard. The grilled salad was the best I've had in years, the octopus was stunning and my wife raved about the chicken and shrimp entre. The restaurant and hotel could have not been more accommodating to our schedule and I would not hesitate to recommend both.
We also had a marina view room for the night with beds comfy, the showers hot with good pressure only thing missing was early morning coffee options on Sunday morning (as it was a National holiday).

Room Tip: Small hotel, so all rooms are the same, though the ones which front the marina (and not back parking...

Sailing from Tortola, BVI to Lima, Peru, we stayed here for five days waiting for clearance to transit the canal. I must say we were treated like family! The marina, hotel and restaurant/bar staff were top notch and took great care to ensure all of our needs were met and (most importantly) we stayed safe in an unfamiliar area. Customs and immigration are both on property so there is no need to travel outside the gates unless you need an extended visa. If that's the case, Taxi drivers are friendly and prices are reasonable. They'll take you directly to government offices and even to grocery markets if you need to provision your boat.
Marina: Clean and comfortable with floating docks. There's a mini mart stocked with basic necessities (including rum!), a ship's store with everything you need to perform general preventative maintenance, laundry facilities, clean showers and even a gym if you feel so inclined!
Hotel: Tired of being rocked to sleep? Get a room! 11 modern rooms with soft beds (I'm told) and cold a/c are right above the restaurant. There's also a large Media room that has big comfy couches, satellite TV on a big flat screen and a great 'exchange' library wall. Oh, and don't forget the pool and jacuzzi!
Restaurant/Bar: We spent most of our time here, sometimes long after they closed! Being here for five days, we were able to sample most of the menu as well as some special items still being considered. The property manager, Chris, is also a five star chef and their new menu reflects that. Local favors as well as top notch steak and lobster (and amazing octopus) entrees will keep you from firing up the stove on your boat. The bar comes to life in the afternoons. Happy hour has $1 beer and $2 rum drinks - I recommend trying the fresh squeezed fruit of the day with some local rum! Mega Yacht crew and sailboat owners mix and mingle, tell stories and exchange information about their crossings.
Wifi: The entire property has fast, strong and reliable wifi. Each dock has its own antennae so as you move around, your signal is always good - no need to come up on deck!

I hope I didn't leave anything out, but basically Shelter Bay Marina is the best game in town. It's a one stop marina that accommodates vessels of all sizes, and is located in a safe and secure area to wait out your transit through the Panama Canal.....Highly Recommended!

The hotel and restaurant are next to the marina, so the place is filled with friendly and casual boat people. While I do not know about the hotel itself, the restaurant is a great place to relax, with a very generous Happy Hour (rum drinks are $2, local beer is $1) and really tasty food. The kitchen can get backed up, meaning long waits for orders, but a recent renovation and dining room expansion should take care of that problem. Chris, the manager, is super friendly and eager to make the place as great as possible. Can't wait to return.

My husband and I along with his crew have stayed at Shelter bay hotel and have dined at the restaurant many a times. Each time Chris Young (General Manager) and his staff have treated us with the most respect and kindness. Our rooms are always clean and the swimming pool was at the perfect temp. The food at the marina restaurant was very good and plentiful. The marina is always expanding since the first time we visited two years ago. Be sure to say hi to Chris.

Room Tip: make sure the AC is ice cold
