“Amazing place- perhaps under new management?”
Reviewed 7 March 2014

I stayed in a cheaper room and found it to be amazing, right on the beach. The design was really nice and comfortable and the features, such as a/c, flatscreen t.v. (and satellite), hot water, etc. all worked perfectly without a hitch. The food was just out of this world and the room service was impeccable. I'd been in India for about 2 months at this point in my trip and was able to fully relax, enjoy the beautiful beach and really wind down after a pretty hectic journey. The beach was literally at my doorstep with the ocean 15 meters in front of me and THE most amazing sunsets. Imagine that with room service, sitting outside on your patio looking at the ocean during a romantic dinner. It doesn't get better than that. I'm a picky traveller so even after walking around and checking out other places, i felt i was very lucky in having booked such a great place online nd wouldn't have changed it for the world. Loved it. Oh, and i noticed some bad reviews which made me hesitate in booking however it looks like the things mentioned in those reviews were non-existent on my visit- perhaps they're under new management now? In any case, i'm excited to go back there on my next trip to India! Thank you for being so awesome Baywatch!

Room Tip: Any room really, but do ask for one right on the beach- changes everything.

We went for a holiday to this resort, and resort is pathetic. Food and service was terrible.
We ordered for toast and eggs , the waiter brought the eggs and then after 3 reminders he brought the toasts ( cold) after almost 25 minutes. at dinner we ordered chicken curry roti and rice. rice cam after we had finished our dinner. Linens were not fresh , and beds were stinking. Even if you get a stay for free, never ever go to this place.

Room Tip: the tip is not to select this hotel at all.

I booked on the internet for 3 nights and when arriving late, close to midnight, everything was closed down. The taxi driver assisted in knocking them up and unlocking gate. I got a completely run-down room, far from the pretty nice photos shown on their website.
Next day I upgraded to their best category room, while not cheap it was pretty new and overall a thrill.
The premises were not cleaned properly, which could be associated with the low occupancy at the time; also breakfast was poor.
During the weekend more people joined and also the beach lived up and the whole place became more vibrant. So I ended almost liking the place, but will probably nor stay there again.

This is one of those places where you think you've hit the jackpot, but unfortunately the appearance fools you.
The place looks really nice, both from the outside but also on the inside. The rooms we got were great, really comfortable beds, amazing shower and an exit from the room to the beach!
However, we got awful service. The manager wasn't service-minded at all, he only seemed to care about the profit and not the process of getting to it. One of the worst things he did was to burb in mid-sentence, and not only once.
The dining hall, which was supposed to be a beer and wine parlour, looked like an old skateboard-park. The beer and wine parlour didn't seem to be a very succesfull one either. When we entered the room to get some breakfast we saw bottles left from last night piled up in a corner.
The service of the waiters wasn't the best. First of all, it felt like it took forever, even though we were the only ones there. The manager creeped up on us during our meal aswell, without saying anything. He casually walked past our table, standing only about one metre away from us in silence, looking out on the beach, and then he just left.. Then it just so happened that we got fruitsalad with custard on it. Knowing this we went back for a snack just before lunch, and we had the fruitsalad again, but this time we clearly said: 'No Custard, some of us can't eat milk products'! Still, there was still custard on the fruitsalad...
Anyhow, I would not like to go back to this hotel with this service again, even if the location really was amazing. They better change their personell first.

I have visited on 26th Dec'13. Its a good place to visit. The hospitality was average. We requested for bottled water at night and it was not available. View from the room is excellent. Front office staff needs to be more customer friendly.

Room Tip: Select sea view rooms for excellent ambiance.

We were seven of us families who planned to have a time of togetherness far from the madding crowd on a beach... and Cherai was a destination that we agreed could be a good place for that. We decided to go for Baywatch as it happened to be one of the few resorts in Cherai that were beach facing.

On our arrival, we understood that there was nothing called privacy that we were going to enjoy as the whole neighborhood seemed to be on the beach as the beach front is right next to the Cherai public beach. There were a total of 3 waiters and we never got any thing that we ordered for until much much later... average wait time of a couple of hours. The food was terrible... and on complaining, we were told that the chefs had quit and it was a make shift arrangement that kept things moving. We could only wonder why we were paying these fares for some street food. in some of the rooms one has to line up a set of extra chairs to hold the curtains back that the rest of the world does not have a free view of all that is happening inside. My sister-in-law has a infant she was nursing and it was nothing short of a night mare as the drunk and inquisitive little-bo-peeps had a field day. Absolutely no amenities - no pool, no wifi, no games options... nothing!!! Only as we grew into our second day did we understand that i was earlier just a restaurant and bar around which rooms were later built.

However, the worst was only to come. We had agreed for Rs.3500/day all inclusive with breakfast (the hotel and its amenities is not worth more than Rs.1500/day). On the first morning when we came for our breakfast after a swim in the sea, we were told that the breakfast was only upto 10am. After a lot of arguements, we were finally served breakfast at 11.30. Then we get another bombshell - one room can eat complimentary breakfast for upto Rs.500. beyond that its billed. That any way was not a problem as there was only toast and egg. When we ordered for coffee... there was no milk as the hotel did not seem to have sufficient milk.

The coal on the burning heart was finally tossed on as we were checking out... the reception informs us that the cost per day is actually Rs.4500 (though even the tariff cards show Rs.3500 as the premium tariff for the 'best rooms' .. this they explain off saying that the rates in the tariff cards were not revised) and that actually what they had agreed for was Rs.4,500 and not 3,500. After a lot of arguement, they revised it to Rs.4000... i guess when trust is broken, the best is to walk away feeling lucky that we have survived to face another day.

Room Tip: You are far better off not selecting this hotel for a stay in Cherai.... most reviews posted in the...

Dear Guest,
This is to inform you that all these issues are based on the prize and not on service and quality of food served .

As you know that you have visited in peak season time where the beach is crowded in the evening time. Even it is crowded we kept our resort very calm and it is not disturbed by the crowd in the main beach. Our kitchen and Chef are not make shift arrangement and going very good and management has not received any complaints about the food so in the month of December and January 2014. We agree that there were short of service staff during your stay ,even though they keep inform all the guests about approximate time of delivery of food and they run around and delivered on promised time . Now we have sort it out in the first week of January and having sufficient service staff for your service. Our hotel is not a bar hotel and it has a certified licence for classified restaurant from Government of Kerala tourism department where we have a license to sell beer and wine only.

we are having a break fast policy which says Guest should avail the break fast before 1000 Am and we intimated the same to the person who check in . you clearly mentioned that you ask for it around 1100 am by 1130 our staff are busy preparing lunch for the day and no hotel allow to serve break fast after stipulated time.

All these issues were based on rate issue which was mentioned in your review . Our reservation manger called up and told you many times before check in that you have booked in the super deluxe room which was newly built sea facing room and the cost for the same in high in season which is Rs.4500 + tax. Then the response was I will speak to the owner and settle with him . Here staff on duty is responsible if the set rates are not been collected and our resort is going full occupancy since December. You were in impression that it is same old small hotel with small rooms and a small Restaurant which is not correct and we have been improved a lot .We welcome you to Please visit again and feel the Sea breeze.

I have visited Cherai beach on 28/12 . IT was one of the destination during our New year kerala trip. Place is great. It is situated @ great location. WE took 2 luxury rooms. However there was some smell in the room and water is a big issue.

Major issue is with the food across kerala . I do not understand if so many people visit kerala from outside world . Why dont they hire people who can understand clear english.

Starts from bringing the order to the table. To get masala papar it was around 30 min. However on the other side they are bringing orders in time to the Foreigners .

How can be someone be wrong on the fresh lime water salted . First they added peach . then after 15 min they added sugar. and above then that . they given me a bill of all this.

and to end the worst stay about food they create the curd rice which was out of this world. you cant even keep it on your tounge. Even after telling them not to use coconut oil , it seems they just do it for fun.

So over all . Room type is below average. Rooms are stinky . Water is a big issue in the rooms. Basic things like tissue , soaps towels we had to call so many times and then finally ended up buying it from outside.

Better would be to look some other places around which are worthey enough if at least you are not paying a big amount for this kind of service.

However if you just want to sit enjoy beer and beach and dont care about the hospitality and food then , place is totally miss. I went after reading good review about this place however it ended up in a ruined one day.

Room Tip: Try to take the corner rooms .
