“Great Golf Holiday”
Reviewed 28 July 2013

We had a great time golfing and relaxing at Holiday Mountain. The staff was excellent in helping us and very friendly. The menu is small but very well done. Our food was always fresh, hot and presented nicely. The golf course was a good surprise - it was lush, green, picturesque and fun to play. The chalets are a flashback to skiing trips in the past. The chalets were very clean and comfortable. Everything was new in the chalet.

The Golf Course is absolutely stunning. What amazing scenery! I was very impressed. The Golf course is WAY to hard for me, but my husband loved it. Not very busy, but understandable considering the location. We stayed last weekend on a Groupon and had a lovely weekend. The service was great, friendly staff. The rooms (while dated) were very clean. We had to rent a "Cabin" because the other motel was closed for renovations. Good news is that the furniture in the Cabins was all replaced in the last week. Even the beds. Bad news, well water (not used to that!) and no cell service. Not used to that either! I've never been to Larivere before and we enjoyed ourselves. My husband now has it in his head to learn to snowboard, we'll see about that, but I have already booked us another Golf weekend. Good Times.

Room Tip: "Cabin" 10 is close to the highway, ask for 3 or 4.

I just got back from an extended weekend at Holiday Mtn. My husband and I really enjoyed our visit. The staff were amazing and friendly, the food was good. The Golf course was beautiful and the rooms were nice and clean. No cell service which was a little concerning because I left our young children with their Grandparents but I it worked out fine. There was a phone in the room. My husband and I will definitely be back, hopefully the Zip Line will be open when we return, it looked like fun.

OK, you have to come to this place with the right expectations. This is the prairies, and not the Rockies. Furthermore, the revenue associated with this type of small skiing operation is never going to be great, so you can't expect a 4-star resort. What you are going to get is accommodation like a small-town motel, and food like a small-town diner. Come at it with those expectations, and you'll be fine.

We are 2 adults and 2 kids (10 and 8 yrs old), and have stayed in the A-frames a number of times. They are simple, basic accommodations: two double beds; a small microwave; a mini-fridge; a small desk & chair; and a tiny bathroom. Yes, the water is from a well, so be prepared for the well-water smell when you shower. We always bring city water in a jug for drinking.

For food, as others have noted, the restaurant has a limited menu. However, what is available is pretty decent. Burgers, fries, club sandwiches, and the like. Prices are moderate, and serving sizes are decent. Note there is a "nicer" restaurant on the upper floor, which usually has 4 or 5 dinner specials that are a bit fancier.

Service is acceptabley friendly, but the kitchen gets overwhelmed fairly easily. If it is busy, be prepared to wait 20 - 30 minutes for your food.

We typically bring our own food, and eat breakfast and lunch in our room. With a fridge and microwave, you have this flexibility.

One note about the bugs, which others have mentioned. For some reason, there are ladybugs at Holiday Mountain during the winter. You may find some in your room, and in the restaurant. Not large amounts, but certainly some.

With regard to the ski hill itself - well, again, this is the prairies. The skiing is obviously at a fairly low level, with even the "black diamonds" being at the level of advanced green runs in the Rockies. Be aware that the t-bar has not been in service for at least two years, so the runs at the far end of that side require a bit of effort to reach. Also be aware that they occasionally do not run both chairlifts, if crowds are low. However, you can reach most of the good runs from the "main" chairlift.

Bottom line, this is the best (and only) real skiing within two hours of Winnipeg. Spring Hill and Falcon Ridge are not worth the effort (basically glorified bunny hills), and Aessissipi is nearly twice as far as Holiday Mountain. As a result, we have learned to enjoy Holiday Mountain, as a nice weekend trip away.

Room Tip: A-frame cabins are basically all the same, and within easy walking distance of the hill. We've...

Glad to hear you had fun at Holiday Mountain. I see that came to visit us in late March. You are right, the menu does tend to get a bit limited towards the end of the season. We're in the midst of renovation our accommodations. Next time you come you will see all new furniture in the Aframes, including some great soft new beds just delivered last week. We've had quite a few people over the year's mention that they enjoy lunch in the Aframe, so this winter we're offering free late check-out (2:00) on Sundays for anyone who stay's Friday & Saturday nights. Thanks for sharing!

We stayed here for one night and thought it was good for the price and proximity to the lifts. Dated, but clean. We would stay here again. We were able to check in a little early and the hotel staff were great. The restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. VERY limited menu. Pizza is good.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed visiting us. The rooms are a bit dated, but we're working on it! This month we finishing replacing 100% of the furniture in all the rooms. Nice new pillowtop mattresses to rest on after a hard day on the slopes. We do have a limited menu, something we're trying to address for next season. Thanks for sharing.

My husband and I stayed at this resort with our kids over the past weekend and it was disgraceful. We have never seen such a disorganized establishment in our life. The kitchen staff are unprofessional, inexperienced, and disrespectful. A dinner for a family of 5 cost us over $125 and it was cold. When u asked the waitress to warm it up for you, you would get attitude. When you are paying $16+ per meal, you expect it to be hot. The portions were very small. The waiting times were extremely long. Our most favourite moment was when a red head served us lunch and she was hacking and coughing all over the food cause she was so sick, cursing like a truck driver and talking about how drunk they all got the nite before.

The lounge is full of staff once the skiing portion ends for the day. There is nothing more professional and impressive than to go to the lounge for a drink and see the young staff who were serving you earlier in the day, drunk and making out at the bar. All the staff are covered in hickies. It's disgraceful!!!!

We rented an A-frame and it was dirty, no heat, and I think the mattresses are still the originals. The most uncomfortable sleep ever. The microwave barely worked. You had to warm up items for 10 minutes or longer to get them warm. The shower had no water pressure and the water stinks.

Management obviously doesn't care what goes on in their establishment regarding their staff or the comfort of their guests. At one point we observed management asking a customer "what is your problem".

We would NEVER return to this establishment. I would highly recommend driving south the extra 30-45 minutes and go to Frost Fire.

Sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your visit to Holiday Mountain. New Year's Eve weekend is always busy with party guests, and it's not always as kid friendly as it could be. Our staff often come to the bar for drinks after work, as is their right. Once off duty, they are customers too. We did have 1 employee with hickeys in early January, she was let go for violating our appearance policy. Not too sure what you are referring to in the restaurant since we didn't have any "red head's" on staff last winter... We hear you about the furniture in the rooms, and while no the mattresses were not the originals, they were not new (6+ years.) However, they were all replaced in the last month. Thanks for the feedback, let us know if you'd like to come check out our improvements.
