“Lovely surprise”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

Our stay in the Wren was fabulous!

We were attending Ironfest, and all we were after was affordable accommodation nearby.

But we got so much more!!!
What a lovely surprise to find your amazing motel. The cabin was amazing - so spacious & clean and with a fully equipped kitchen.
We booked in for the restaurant for the Friday evening, and found the food and service so amazing that we booked in again for the Saturday evening.
Your staff is fabulous. Very friendly, enthusiastic and capable. We found everyone in the restaurant great!

We will most definitely be back.

I stayed here for business with a group of around 60 people. We were shooting a film, and doing very strange hours, but Rob, Linda and the team, looked after us 24/7. The rooms are all well appointed and have very comfortable beds. The cabins come with a great living area, as well as dining and kitchen. The restaurant is great. They catered for us, three meals a day, for 2 weeks, and did an amazing job.

I would highly recommend the cabins!

We went to Black Gold Country Cabins just before 2013 xmas by reading the reviews on tripadvisor.

During our stay we were happy with the cleanliness. They supply lots of linen and changes it around 9 each day. The staff was helpful, Monique the front office lady deserves a special mention. They also have a fabulous restaurant.

When we stayed there the internet wifi was down and they happily provided a cable for wired connection.

Even though smoking is banned inside the room. Smokers can sit in the verandah and smoke. So make sure you are not anywhere near a known smoker. We had the misfortune of being near such a person. Fortunately for us, before we make complaint he left the place.

When we visited most of the rooms were occupied by the workers of the power plant and nearby colliery.

The air conditioner works but even at its highest speed it wont cool the room as it is positioned near the corner of the bathroom and toilet.(Away from the bed).

We found that our room fridge doesn't have a temperature control knob. The owner came in and turned the knob for us.

The view of the nearby power plant from the new room is attractive.

Great place to stay while exploring the upper blue mountains region. The cabin I got must have been new as everything was bright, shiny and CLEAN!!! Clean as a whistle! Absolutely spotless. Not even streak marks on the stainless steel sink! Bed was comfortable and had electric blankets. Towels were fluffy. TV was a good size. Small fridge, microwave and free Internet! The only downside was the lack of charm when you look out the window and see the power plant. But then, it's a great base to rest for when you spend the day trekking around the bush anyway. Would definitely stay here again if I ever go back exploring the national parks.

Spent two nights in one of the older 'school rooms', a huge old, 4 bedroom cabin. Basically a house. Large with high ceilings so remains cold even with one heater on. Without it on, just as cold inside as out. Nevertheless, comfortable beds and lots of blankets so was a good sleep. Fully stocked kitchen has enough facilities to cook meals in if your wish. Bathroom was adequate, most importantly shower was lovely and hot. Large tv, and free wi fi. Overall was fine, but if I stayed again in winter would pay for one of the newer rooms. Helpful hosts.

Stayed here the night before the Glow Worm Tunnel Marathon. The rooms were very clean, recently renovated and comfortable. The restaurant was a good option - wouldn't bother going into 'town' to look for anything else. The place seemed to be popular with the locals too. Friendly and helpful service. All good - however you do feel like you're in Springfield (Simpsons) being under the shadow of the power station smoke stacks!

Fabulous place, cheap and very comfortable. So clean! It is a littledistance out of Lithow, but certainly a good option for accommodation in the area. We went to Iron Fest at Lithgow and stayed here. Recommend it highly!
