“Just one drawback”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

Just as you would expect from a 4 star hotel - very clean, modern, good sized rooms, pleasant staff. Good location just off the centre and an easy walk to the main points of interest.
BUT.........the one drawback is what has been referred to by other reviewers - the washbasin is inside the bedroom and the shower and WC are only separated from the bedroom by partially opaque screens. So......if you don't want to see your room partner having a shower or sitting on the loo, it would be better choose another hotel!

Dear Guest,

thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.
We are pleased to know that you enjoyed your Stay with us and our apologies for the distribution of the rooms with the bath included on the room.It is a fashion style to give amplitude in the room, but perhaps not very successful by the architect and decorator .
But is a pleasure for us that you find only this one drawback and you like our staff, our rooms and we could exceed your expectations .

We look forward to seeing you again very soon.

Best Regard from Ronda.

We stayed here for a couple of days at the beginning of June after a visiting Madrid and Seville. This hotel is situated up a slight hill a little away from the main sights of Ronda (the bridge and the gorge) but within easy walking distance of these (10 minutes). It is 5 minutes walk from the bus station. The views from the terrace at the back of the hotel are superb - across the valley to mountains, barely another building in sight. The landscaping of the gardens is great - really smart. The standard double room we had was lovely - large and done to a great modern, stylish spec - though had no view to speak of. The large bathroom, with a huge shower cubicle, and really nice tiles, was great. Our room did not have the same issue with being small or having the bathroom cubicle obtrusively within the room which other travellers have mentioned. This may be because we were on the first floor rather than in rooms in the eves on higher floors. The communal areas (terrace, pool, lounge with large TVs showing sports) are all excellent. You can ask for separate towels for the pool at reception which is useful. The hotel was not busy when we were there (beginning of June) and as such we had a quiet, peaceful and relaxing time. We chose not have the extremely expensive breakfast, but did eat at the hotel restaurant one night which was quite reasonably priced considering, and had nice food. The only minor glitch was that the tap on the sink in our room was difficult to manipulate and leaked down the back of the sink, making the unit beneath it very wet; we did report this problem.

My daughter and I stayed here for 2 night recently. I agree with other reviewers that the layout of the bathroom and toilet are not ideal...unfortunately many hotels are going this route, possibly to save on space. That said we were not in the room that much. We had a superior double with gorge views......which are indeed stunning and worth the supplement. We had a separate area with a sofa bed and table so overall we felt the room was very spacious and comfortable. The bed was extremely comfortable and we both slept well. The outside corridors have laminate floorcoverings so the early morning departing coach parties pulling their wheelie cases can be noisy. The hairdryer location is an issue and the cord is short, there is also no where to hang towels! All that said you don't visit Ronda to spend too much time in the room as there is so much to do. We didn't eat in the hotel apart from a light lunch which was lovely, particularly when seated outside on the terrace enjoying the stunning views. The Spa facilities are good and the treatments well priced and it is definitely worth a visit. The pool area is good, infinity pool with great views. Could do with some more umbrellas as it is sun trap in that area. Parking is steep at 15E per day especially when you can park safely on the street outside, something I wish I had known beforehand. It seems to be a busy hotel with people staying for a couple of days at a time and coachloads of tourists arriving regularly. It is very centrally located and a pleasant walk uphill after a day sightseeing or enjoying the many excellent tapas bars in the area.

We recently stayed 2 nights at this hotel and although the grounds and view are beautiful, the room function was terrible. We had a superior double room with a gorgeous view of the gorge, but the room itself was form over function. The view did not make up for the room. Besides, we rarely spend time on the terrace and in this case, it could have used an umbrella with the table and chairs. It was too hot to sit on the terrace in the afternoon or early evening without an umbrella and there was no shade. The room was small and had no separate bathroom. While that in itself may not bother some travelers, it was a major contributor to how I felt about this property. In addition to having the sink practically right next to the bed, the sink was a bowl set on a cheap plastic countertop and the bowl wasn't sealed properly. If you splashed water outside the bowl,it leaked down to the shelf below, soaking the towels. There was no place to hang the towels, couldn't even throw them over the shower door. Additionally, the hair dryer was attached to the wall in such a way, that it was not usable. The cord wouldn't even reach someone my height (5'2") to be able to use it. Although the hotel was lovely to look at and the breakfast buffet was extensive, we would not stay here again.

Room Tip: Try to find a room with a covered terrace if any exist or stay elsewhere

We have just come back from a visit to Andalucia which included Malaga, Granada, Cordoba, Sevilla and Ronda. This is a case of "dulcis in fundo", The Hotel Catalonia Reina Victoria Wellness and Spa was a very nice surprise since we did not really know what to expect as we booked it with Booking. com. The staff where courteous and helpful, the room very spacious and extremely well appointed, the views breathtaking, lovely garden, easy car park. The breakfast was abundant and of very good quality. Unfortunately, because of time constraint we could not visit the Spa but we will do on our next visit. Full marks from us.

The hotel, with one major exception, is very nice. The location is a short walk from the main tourist site, the new bridge. Parking is plentiful in their private lot, although it costs 15 Euros a day. The grounds are beautiful, the views great, both from the hotel grounds as well as from our room. The swimming pool is large and shaded.

The breakfast, included, was excellent. Varied offerings from cereals, cheeses, meats, eggs, bacon, sausages, juices, fruit, cakes and cookies of all kinds and coffees. It seems all hotels are now using machines that can produce any type of coffee you may want. The downside, everywhere, is it takes 2 minutes to brew, requires the tourist to know how it works, which not all do, nor is it obvious, so a line quickly forms.

There is a fitness center and spa services available, though we did not use them and cannot comment on the cost, which is additional.

The bed was very comfortable, storage sufficient and an in room safe.

Now, the bad, and one that will keep us from ever going back here. Our room, as are many like it, though maybe there are suites that are more normal, had the bathroom distributed as opposed to being in a separate room behind a door. The sink is visible from the bed and if one of you wants to rise early the other will be woken up when you turn on the light. The shower is also next to the bed, though it has a door, and its light also shines out into the room. The shower has a rain head which requires a manual to understand how to make it rain, which we never figured out. Finally, the toilet. The toilet directly across from the foot of the bed and its door is glass, frosted except for the bottom foot of the glass. For those who like seeing the person’s feet while they are seated or standing, this is great. Not so for the rest of us. Also, if you like to hear the usual toilet noises humans emit, you’ll love it. Be warned, as we were, but ignored, the (non-existent) bath room will become annoying the second time you use it. Also, the air conditioning did not work but thankfully it was cool and we opened the doors to get some fresh air.

Room Tip: It all depends on how you feel about the bathroom being next to your bed.

Reina Victoria in Ronda. This is basically a magisterial older hotel in the newer side of Ronda that has undergone a significant refurbishing. That new decoration was in our opinion a little over the top modern for the basic hotel. Our room had one of the most beautiful views we have ever seen, looking out to the mountains and valleys. The staff was very thoughtful and well trained.

Room Tip: Get a room looking out the back onto the mountains--exceptional
