“Go for the view”
Reviewed 22 April 2014

Gorgeous panoramic view from the outdoor tables. Menu presented on chalkboard, appears to change regularly. Tried some artichoke hearts which were excellent. The remaining dishes were somewhat average. Service really slowed down once a pair of large-sih parties arrived. Be sure to arrive with your own car - taxis not reliable.

“"La Vita Bella"”
Reviewed 22 March 2014

"La Vita Bella" is also an Inn, sprawling across a mountain top in blazing white. It started as a restaurant and spread into an inn with a few rooms, temescale (native steam room), pool, hiding behind small palms and a stunning entrance. Guests walk through the restaurant to an even more stunning view of Lake Chapala, Mexico's largest inland lake. The Chef / owner is a lovely young man with an Italian father, also a Chef in his own restaurant.. We prefer to dine outside under the shade of a large tree, catching all the mountain breezes. The wine list is more than adequate. My husband and I shared the most interesting starter with young asparagus and mussels in a white wine sauce, very thin, yellow and red cherry tomatoes, topped with Provolone cheese. Very nice. I had the salmon in a rosemary and honey sauce, while my husband had his favorite putinesque. The pasta was made on premises. We had no room for dessert, but have been there before and desserts are quite fabulous. We always order from the dinner menu, though we go around 2:00PM. The white buildings and perfect minimalist decor seem to impart a false sense of coolness on even the hottest of days. The Chef / owner always comes for a kiss and the waiters are gracious. We never fail to take guests there. A little secret is I think my husband goes for the focaccia, fresh from the oven.

Very nice spot overlooking Lake Chapala, beautiful mountain views, good food and excellent friendly service. Can seat large dinning parties both in and out of doors.

“Inconsistent”
Reviewed 11 September 2013

The ambiance is lovely especially if you get to sit outside. The food is inconsistent and best if the owner Gerrard is there. The menu is presented on a chalk board with no prices...as is the wine. Which makes you ordering your food challenging and sometimes embarrassing...especially if you are on a budget. The house wine which the family makes is not the best and rather pricey.
Best value there...pizza and salad. Please ask for the prices to be included on the menu...the more that ask the owner might finally feel obliged.

“Food to Match the View”
Reviewed 9 September 2013

The views of Lake Chapala, Mexico's largest lake (65 miles long), are glorious -- and this place has the best views of any restaurant on the north shore. It's a little outside of Ajijic -- just a 10 minute drive, but you will be rewarded. The chef is very pleasant and talented. I agree that the food can change a bit when he's not behind the stoves. But the food remains pretty good regardless, and whoa! that view. They bring out a big whiteboard with specials as the menu changes daily. I can't recommend any particular dish because it changes. But do try it. You will remember the view long past the meal.
