“Great spot to visit carcassonne”
Reviewed 23 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We stayed for 2 nights and we were very happy with the owners communication and info available about the cottage and the area.
The cottage is on 3 levels and we slept on the first floor and the kids stayed on the second floor and loved it. We called it the doll house.
The cottage has all you need except for a TV but that was a nice break and we managed to watch something on our laptop.
Great spot but not recommended if you have mobility issues as the staircase is a bit steep.

“Ideal for young people”
Reviewed 3 June 2015 for a stay in April 2015

This property is suitable for younger people. As octogenarians the staircase to the top floor bedrom was impossible. Otherwise the gite was fantastic and the neighbours opposite were lovely

“An interesting cottage in an old town with plenty of character.”
Reviewed 14 October 2014 for a stay in October 2014

Easy to find with the directions given by the owner. Staying here allowed us to visit both Carcassonne and the outlying district with ease. It was also our first overseas find of a Geocache.

“A charming, quirky cottage in a beautiful old village”
Reviewed 27 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Pennautier is an old, working village with very steep, narrow streets. Cathar Cottage, like the village, is an old working cottage. It's very compact, on 3 floors with quirky stairs to the top floor, but it has all you could need for a comfortable, conveniently located, base. We were sent very thorough notes and instructions by the owner before our arrival which was immensely useful. The only downfall of the village was that there are no restaurants (except a very good, but expensive one where one wouldn't dine on a regular basis). On the up-side there is a very friendly bar just round the corner from the cottage. Our only regret was that we were only there for 2 nights!

“Exactly what we had hoped for”
Reviewed 3 May 2014 for a stay in April 2014

We stayed at the Cathar Cottage in Pennautier in April 2014 for three nights. It was a wonderful place to stay with our children (7 & 10). It is brilliantly located for visiting Carcassonne and the other attractions of the region. The cottage had everything we could have wanted and was exactly what was claimed. I would certainly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the region.

“Bastille day get-away”

We enjoyed our stay at the Cathar Cottage. It was exactly as described--great for a family of four, our boys (11 and 16yrs) loved their room on the top floor. The cottage was clean and welcoming, including a tray with a bottle of local wine and juice for our boys. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and some basic supplies--salt, pepper, cooking oil etc... It is located in a small village, that has everything we needed--bakery, butcher, small grocery store and restaurants. Getting to Carcassonne was easy and quick. We will recommend to others, just be warned that the cottage is on a VERY narrow street--we suggest parking nearby and walking your bags in. If you drive in, we strongly recommend backing up to leave (like to locals) instead of driving forward, as the road continues to narrow and it isn't hard to imagine a car wedged in between the walls. :-)
