The roast beef comes 10 millimetres thick in circles 50 mill across. My 92 year old mother said it was like rubber. Not noticed any cows that shape in Lakeland. More likely to have come from an eastern Europe processing factory. Good job we had the dog with us.

If you want bread with a ploughmans expect to pay extra.

My husband and I recently enjoyed a 2 night b+b break at The Brown Horse Inn. We had dinner there both nights, 1st night part of deal purchased but no hesitation in eating there 2nd night too. the food was fantastic, plenty of it, lovely atmosphere, very friendly staff. Breakfast great too, didn't need lunch either day. Lovely warm bedroom, good ensuite, everywhere spotlessly clean. faultless, despite lousy weather! Would definitely like to go again soon!

Room Tip: Room 8 in the annex, perfect choice, faces road but no noise.

This is an absolute gem! We spent two nights on a KGB deal and could not have been more pleasantly surprised. The room (in the annex) was awesome and spotless. I don't know how some people could complain of road noise as there simply isn't any. The bar and restaurant area is comfortable (and very busy which was good). The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us and the food was fantastic and even better when you realise that the majority from the Brown Horse Estate - you really can't get any more local than that. Even hen's eggs were for sale in the bar!
And the drinks were very reasonably priced too. A pint of real ale was £3.20!
The location is ideal - whilst there isn't anything else in Winster to do, Windermere is only a 10 minute drive away (if that!) with the rest of the Lake District well within reach

Excellent pub come B&B. Went on a wowcher deal, and couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. Lovely family run place, food was excellent. Had one meal included in the deal, but was more than happy to pay the second night, absolutely outstanding.

Room was beautifully decorated and bathroom was modern and clean.

Not completely surprised that this quaint old coaching inn is a bit of a relic. Great location near Windermere and rustic setting with convenient parking to rear. Decent sized room overlooking the road so we experienced traffic noise at busy times. Comfortable bed room nice and warm, furniture dated. Unpleasant soil smell from the toilet/shower-room... so bad that, the cleaners had to leave the toilet vent fan on all day and we had to leave it on all night. Otherwise cleanliness was acceptable. Great shower though..Don't expect much attention as a guest, although service in the restaurant was fine. Bit of a cottage industry here with chips being mass produced and loaded into plastic wheelie containers by the main hotel entrance. Cosy bar with good real ale brewed in their own micro brewery. Restaurant food was good and very pleased with the inclusive dinner. Good cooked breakfast, quality of smoked salmon breakfast varied from good to indifferent. We didn't use the leisure facilities at Low Wood Bay which are 7 miles away.

Room Tip: We saw a newer extension with some more modern rooms and set back a bit from the road. If we went ba...

As a base to explore the lakes, this was a good starting point booked via a Groupon deal.
The hotel stands alone, and as such enjoys quiet nights free from traffic and chaos.

The food is very good, breakfast was perfect and the kitchen accommodating.
Service and prices were good as were the drinks choices.

The hotel itself needs some work and general upkeep.
Rooms were clean and tidy but worn.

All in all a very nice place to stay or eat for the Groupon price...

Don't forget to buy your farm eggs on the way out.
