“Ritz by San Juan Airport”

Granted it was the Christmas vacation the hotel was very busy. The staff were the usual excellent which we have all come to expect from the Ritz. The hotel itself is a different story. The room doesn't match the high price. It is quite ordinary and the towels were old. The hotel restaurants are very pricey. I liked the Casino. There is a half an hour distance to the old St.juan and each costs around $20.00 .Taxis could be dirty. I made friends with one and I called him for wherever we wanted to. The hotel is a semi resort. It has a very nice beach front and a very nice gym. I will probably try a different hotel next time that I go.

Room Tip: Travel between Sept and October to get the best deals. If you will be going around a lot, rent a car...

I was here for a wedding but I was extremely impressed. Favorite part, pool open and warm at night! The food was great but I agree with other reviewers, expensive. It was clean and loved my room. I would totally stay here again!

We enjoyed our time at the Ritz. We were traveling with another couple and it made sense so we could have access to the beach and relax leisurely. The food is delicious, but on the expensive side. The rooms were okay, but it is an older hotel... compared to the other resorts it is the nicest and the cleanest. We stayed at a boutique hotel after (but boutique hotels are more of our thing)... we stayed at The Ritz Reserve for the last part of our honeymoon in October, but these are two different properties - and two very different price tags.

I gave this place five stars because of the people who worked there. There is one man in particular and I WISH I could remember his name. We were having problems with our television and trying to order a movie and he even offered to go pick it up. The people at the front were helpful... everyone was simply kind and thoughtful.

Room Tip: Our room was expensive and still had a terrible view... if you want to see the ocean you definitely...

I will echo other reviewers and say that this resort does not quite meet the standard as other Ritz Carlton's we've stayed at. That being said, it is still a beautiful hotel with staff that goes out of their way to make their customers happy. Our room was spacious and the bed incredibly comfortable. The bathroom is also large, though without the luxurious soaking tub we've had at other locations. The pool was mostly filled with kids, but the deck chairs were comfortable and there was always an abundance of fresh fruit and ice cold water. And it's location on the beach can't be beat -- a great stretch of sandy beach and surfable waves. I don't think there's any other place I would rather stay in the San Juan area!

I was expect much more from Ritz.
The spa is so small and old as well. Massage was good but I was expecting to see a better and bigger facility and service.
It can be a good 4 or 3 stars hotel though.

While above average in general, I felt this hotel to be lacking in the luxury that is expected at a Ritz. Everything was just average, the food, the pool area, the service. The room stank but we didn't ask them to change our room, so I can't comment on how they would have handled our request. We encountered issues at check in, when paying for parking and when paying at the pool restaurant, and didn't think they were handled the way you would expect at a 5 star hotel. We did appreciate all the water available around the resort. If we were to come back to San Juan, we would definitely try another resort.

I just returned from xmas vacation at the Ritz in San Juan. We had a good time here and the staff tried to accommodate us as well as they could, but bottom line is This Ritz is more like a Marriott than a 5 star Ritz Carlton. First the good:
Rooms were clean
Service at the beach was very good
Staff was courteous and responsive

Now the disappointing things:
Rooms are expensive and there are certain expectations that go along with this. The resort fee came out to $129 per night per room. We ordered food and drinks on the beach every day and utensils were a plastic fork and knife in a plastic bag. Felt like I was at McDonalds.
In one week we had turn down service twice
The day we arrived, it took 1 1/2 hours for lunch to be served pool side. Manager apologized and said they had new staff in the kitchen. Not acceptable for Christmas week at %-star hotel.
Food and drinks at the beach typically too 45 minutes to arrive. Again, not 5-star.
The gym was inadequate for the size of the hotel. 30 years ago this may have been ok as most guests did not work out, but there was typically a 30 minute wait (minimum) to use equipment which was old. Not acceptable at a 5-star hotel. 5 or 6 treadmills at a hotel this size is unacceptable.
Finally, we requested a late check out as our flight home was at 5:00 pm. The hotel could not accommodate our group past 1:00 pm. We requested to use the shower in the spa, but that request was denied saying they were too busy. I have never had that happen at a 5-star resort.

Bottom line is that we did enjoy our vacation, but this was not worth the price charged.
