My daughter, age 10, and I were lucky enough to tag along with my husband, as he hosted another conference @ the Ritz.
The details: August 14-18. Awesome double balcony room, #817
The good: Super comfy, Art Deco inspired room with balcony overlooking pool & ocean. Beautifully appointed, with spacious bath. Pool was well staffed, and chairs plentiful. Service was readily available, and food/ cocktails were delicious!
The "small" stuff: Beach staff was not as attentive as pool staff. Took four attempts to get two chaises covered, one afternoon. I was compensated with a free cocktail (without complaining, btw). Iron and ironing board were not clean. Dirty black spots were left on a brand new linen blouse (I'm sure I can fix it) from the iron, and the underneath of the board was covered in cobwebs. Pool was beyond not my favorite. It was too warm, too small, and by late afternoon full of a drunkish clientele. But you know know what they say about the small stuff... ;) (don't sweat it!)
Awesome stuff: Overall, the staff! Oh my goodness! They actually really seem to care about your satisfaction! Unfortunately, that is not the norm, in my experience. Housekeeping, servers, you name it, made my daughter & I feel as though we were princesses! Omar, restocking our mini bar, gifted my little girl and I with our favorite M&M's! The hotel treated the hubs and me to a beautiful cheese tray & bottle of wine as a "thank you" for having his conference there every year.
The beach and ocean are AWESOME. Softest sand, and we have been all over the Caribbean. The water was so warm, with just enough waves to make it fun! Hours upon hours of blissful fun!
The very front of the house- the valet guys, I guess. Although we didn't park (used a car service), they got us a taxi at a moment's notice, were full of a wealth of information, and welcomed us warmly upon arrival everyday, like family- sincerely, like old friends!
Location!!! The concierge seemed busy helping lots of happy travelers make plans, all day, each day. We only made it to Old San Juan, as my husband was working, and it was a quickie'ish trip. The San Cristobal Fort was worth the trip, in my opinion! We had two days of exploring there, and Old San Juan is an architectural and culinary treasure!!!
And lastly, Food!!!: I think I gained 10 pounds in 5 days! Everything I ate was delicious!!!! Do not miss Mares for breakfast and lunch- especially Sunday breakfast/ brunch. Make sure to order the Puerto Rican red beans & rice- you will not be sorry! And the Ocean Bar& Grill was a special treat- super fresh & served oceanside. What more could you want?
In love with Ritz Carlton, San Juan! Hope we will blessed enough to visit again!!!
