“Would definetly stay here again”
Reviewed 6 January 2014

After reading many reviews of this hotel, I was a little skeptical. But, having just come back from a 5 night stay with my husband and two teenagers, I would definetly stay at this property again. The beach was great (not nearly as crowded as the Ritz a few buildings down), pools were nice, staff was very nice. Our room (2 queens which is hard to find in a hotel in PR) was very roomy. Yes, the accommodations needed a little updating and yes, the food at the hotel was a little pricey but that's the case wherever you go in PR. My main concern was the airport - having read previous Trip Advisor reviews. Being so close to the airport was not nearly as bad as folks have indicated. You do hear planes but after awhile, you don't notice them. And, I have to say that I actually enjoyed watching the planes take off from my 7th floor balcony-something that I don't get to experience. I especially enjoyed the live salsa bands that they had (& this place was ROCKING on New Year's Eve). My one complaint was the wi-fi. They gave us the password on the first day that we checked in but it rarely worked. Overall, I was very pleased with our stay at this Courtyard.

From the second you walked into the lobby - with a full salsa band playing at maximum decibels right next to the casino entrance - it was clear that this hotel isn't for everyone. The staff was attentive and helpful, however, and the overall amenities were okay - but not quite up to the $400/night (with taxes) expenditure. It was noisy even up in the room, and "ocean view" turned out to be a partial glimpse from the side. In addition, while being relatively close to the airport has its advantages for an early flight, this is a place where it literally sounds like jets are about to land right in your room. It has a nice beach, but I'd agree with comments about the choppy surf and rip currents not being appropriate for little kids.

We booked this vacation 6 months in advance and reserved a room with 2 queen beds for our family of four. When we checked in for our six night stay, we were told sorry, only rooms with one king are available. Apparently preference was given to locals making reservations for New Years Eve. Our room was very outdated with an old tub and a gross white tile bathroom floor, and the vent cover fell off the wall every day. For the first two days our toilet would not flush, and we had to use the lobby bathroom. House cleaning left us only 3 towels every day so we had to share towels, and sometimes did not come to clean until 4pm. The hotel had a New Year's Eve dinner that was not advertised and was sold out to the locals. So no hotel guests were able to eat dinner at any of the restaurants that night (they set the tables with reserved signs midday). Airport noise is unbearable. This Marriott reward member is done with Marriott.

I would like to thank you for staying with us and apologize for the situations that you encountered during your stay. After reviewing your feedback, we have identified several opportunities. On New Year's Eve we had four food and beverage outlets available to our guests. One of the four, our main bar, did have signs reserving tables for the New Year's Celebration. In the future, we will be more proactive communicating to our guests all of the activities and dining options available during New Year's Eve. If possible, please contact me regarding the situations with the room as I would like to investigate them further. We take great pride in responding to our guest's needs. You may contact me at hneumann@sjcourtyard.com or 787-648-8834. Your feedback has been highly appreciated.
Thank you,

There were good things about the hotel. Comfortable beds, clean rooms, good location, well run front desk. I would not return here with kids though. The beach has pretty big waves and a fairly strong current. At the pool there was a lady who walked around constantly and watched the kids. Everytime they jumped or splased she was on them to stop. I could totally see that if they were ruining other peoples time in the pool but there was no one else in there and they were being normal, well behaved 8-10 year old boys. It was over the top and made us feel unwelcome. The concierge...BRUTAL! Rude, snotty, and totally unhelpful. After the first time we skipped it and asked the parking guys outside. They were great. Food was pretty good but expensive.

THis is not your average Courtyard Marriott. It's on a beautiful beach in Puerto Rico and is more like a resort. The lobby pool area and restaurants are excellent and nice, Lots of places to sit and relax, you never feel crowded, and it's not noisy at all. No loud music. There are two hot tubs and a pool bar. Water at beach was amazing, beach service was great, chairs and umbrella's complimentary. Food and drinks were average but not bad.

Room was decent, simple but clean and comfortable, nothing to complain about. The hotel is a short walk from a few stores and restaurants.
Yes you here the noise from the planes taking off but who cares, it did not bother me at all.

I will def return here for a quick easy and inexpensive getaway

Great views (ask for ocean front) and great beach front setting--wonderful lounge sofas and hammocks, great lounge chairs and umbrellas (set up for you by helpful beach staff). All staff very friendly and helpful. Happy Hour was great value. This beach and access to it was better than the far pricier Ritz down the beach. Wide open, beautiful vistas as this hotel is last in the row. The only downside was the food--over priced and poor quality--disappointing for a Marriott. You don't need fancy food, just use local fresh ingredients. Also, be sure to use the complimentary bug spray at outdoor bar and front desk--"no see um" bugs at night are really bad in PR. Also, Marriott should spruce up the lobby and hallways--very tired decor, old carpeting--and the bathrooms in the rooms need a refresh. Airport noise never bothered us--can't hear in the rooms and on the beach it was never distracting.

Room Tip: High floor with full ocean view is worth the upgrade--side rooms have ocean view but also face an ug...

We stayed at this property for 4 nights right before the Christmas break and really enjoyed every bit of it. The staff is courteous and speak fluent English. Being vegetarians, we had less choice for eating options, but the 2 restaurants in the hotel (Salsa, Sireno) were OK for veggie choices and prepared veggie food on request. There are also other snack places inside the hotel (e.g. Banana, where all the waiters and waitresses were very friendly and service-oriented) which was good, because we didn't rent a car and would have had no other choices for eating places. The room we were in was full ocean-facing and it was really nice to open the balcony door to hear and see the ocean. The hammocks in the beach front were really nice and the beach area was very clean and well-maintained. All in all, a great experience and we would certainly consider returning to this property anytime!

Room Tip: There is a lack of vegetarian options in the lobby. GSI tours is good, but the hotel markets this c...
