This is a high-end restaurant located in the Water and Beach Club Hotel. It is not a cheap place to dine but the food here was amazing. It is most definitely a fine dining experience. We liked it so much, we went back 3 times during our 1 week stay at the hotel. Everything from appetizers, main dishes and disserts was superb for dinner. Drinks were also great. The atmosphere is lovely with at touch of romance. I'm giving it 5 starts for dinner experience but I would not recommend it for breakfast - about the same breakfast food as everywhere else but more expensive.

Stayed at San Juan WBC for 3 nights. The friendly hostess always invites you in for dinner. We decided to try one evening but we didn't have reservations. The restaurant was pretty empty but they had to check to see if they could accomodate us. We were sat next to the door in the flow of traffic. We asked to be moved and the server had to check to see if anyone else had reservations for the area we asked to be moved to. Finally moved and at this point the vibe was not good. The menu is small with few overpriced items. We ordered drinks and after staring at the menu we decided to leave. Paid for the drinks and left.

The wonderful people who staff the hotel where this restaurant is located had been after us to try the new Zest restaurant, located on the ground floor of the hotel for the past couple of years.

Well, we finally got around to it on our latest trip to Isla Verde in July 2014, and WOW! We had to laugh at ourselves for postponing a visit to this truly amazing restaurant for so long!

We sat at the bar because we have known Joseph, the bartender ever since he started working at the San Juan water and Beach Club several years ago. He mixed us some great cocktails, explaining the differences between the two and three start Barillitos rum, which has been made in Puerto Rico for nearly two hundred years, and has a subtle, almost spicy undertone, so delicious!
We then started off with two appetizers, a black bean humus dish, studded with perfectly done small plaintain chips interspersed with crudities and the most wonderful pulpo dish that was done almost like a ceviche. The flavors and presentation of both of these was just the start of what was a truly amazing meal.
I went with the Chilean Sea Bass, which was cooked to perfection, perfectly flaky, yet rich and succulent, served on abed of layered, pureed root vegetables that you could taste the subtle change of flavors in every bite. This was served in a deep, round dish that looked like a combination of a bowl and a dinner plate, absolutely delicious and unexpected flavors!
My friend went with the beef tenderloin, served in a mustard/ wine reduction with escarole and mushrooms.
We washed this down with a wonderful Malbec Rose from Argentina that they have at the hotel and we love!
The dessert, which we shared was an exquisite warm chocolate cake with a liquid center served with, of all things, basil ice cream! I must say the only other time I have encountered basil icecream was at the fabled La Grenouille in New York! I'd say Zest is in some very good company, and deservedly so!

“Outstanding restaurant - among the best anywhere”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

We had a fantastic dining experience. Being here in the off season, we didn't know what to expect - we were absolutely amazed. The food was so well done - presentation, pairing, preparation, all came together to rival some of the best dining any of us have ever experienced. The Sea Bass was clearly the highlight dish. It was the best meal of our trip, and the best we have had in either of trips to PR, and better than most of what we have had elsewhere, including the Culinary Institute of America restaurant in San Antonio (which specializes in Latin Cuisine). It is the can't miss dining place for Puerto Rico!

“Amazing Service (and food)”
Reviewed 5 August 2014 via mobile

This restaurant was amazing. Everyone was so nice from the valet driver to the bus boy. Our server Edgardo was not only friendly but very helpful! We listened to his food suggestions--which were right on point. We loved the fish dishes; my favorite was the sea bass. My family of six also tried all five dessert options. Let me tell you that you could not go wrong there. Try the donuts or coconutty if you want something different! It's also a plus that they are so close to the beach.
