We booked this holiday many months ago and had been looking forward to our first visit to Corfu. We were not disappointed. We arrived at the hotel after a short transfer, checked in and went to our first lunch whilst our romm was made ready. The Concierge to care of our luggage and we were very pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety of food on offer. The room was exactly as we booked, a suite with balcony and sea view. Everything about this hotel screams "professional" and this was borne out by the quality of food which had many variations of cultures and countries including a fabulous English Apple Pie with Vanilla sauce, the very best rice pudding with cinnamon! There was such a variety of high quality of food that it was sometimes very difficult to decide which to have. We mostly had a little bit of everything. All the staff worked very, very hard at making your experience as good as possible and were unstintingly friendly, particularly if you could at least say "Kalimera" - Good morning, "Kalispera" - Good afternoon, "Kalinichta" - Good night, "Parakalo" - Please, "Efkaristo" - Thank you, "Yammas" - Cheers or "Yassas" - Hi.
The setting is as close to perfect as you can get..long sandy beach gently shelving, perfectly clear sea with brightly coloured fish in attendance at your feet, watersports if you want to be frightened out of your wits with the banana ride or parascending, and a lovely descent from the mountains via a winding road through the beautiful countryside.
The hotel offers two free trips to Corfu town via Aqualand per day and there is a twice daily public bus from just up the road.
The cleanliness of our room was good but there were some dust issues under the bed, however, the staff left a litre bottle of water in the fridge, every day.
The TV has three UK channels, ITV, BBC and some strange programme that is obviously originally German but dubbed into English..wierd.
We were staying during the European Football Championship (15th to 29th June 2012) and there was a lot of friendly banter between the various nationalities on holiday. The two main nationalities were German and UK and everyone got on well. If you wanted a bed by the pool or in a particularly favourable spot on the beach, then you had to play the game of being the first one up and getting your towel down there. This is the same in any resort or holiday I have ever been on and if anyone from the UK says they don't actually do it themselves, they are telling porkies!!!
Corfu town is absolutely superb, I could live there very happily. It has the faded charm of a Naples, the warmth that only the Corfiot's can bring to you, an excitement that is highly addictive and a culture that is steeped in history.
Like I have said A (nearly) Perfect Holiday..we will be re-booking.
