Due to our limo co. assigning a driver who had never been to this area before, an estimated three hour trip took a bit over five hours, leaving us exhausted and disappointed that our first afternoon was gone. We were taken to our individual guest suite, for our three night stay, and it was beautiful. Each guest suite has an individual pool, in addition to a large infinity pool near the building housing the main office, restaurants and bar. There was a four-poster bed, large rainfall shower, gas see-through fireplace and two televisions, with a dvd player. This resort had only been open a few years and it was clear that Emirates' budget had been well spent. After resting and unpacking, we walked to the main building for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised to see "Mr. Wombat" chomping on the grass outside an adjacent suite. The wombat was not the least disturbed by our presence and came by for a meal each evening, as we walked up to dinner. The resort's general manager Joost Heymeijer introduced himself when we passed the reception area. Joost had been in charge of the resorts' construction and was justly proud of it. He asked how our trip was going and we mentioned our unsatisfactory experience at southern Ocean Lodge (SOL). Joost said that he knew the owner of our Australian tour company personally and was going to call him immediately, to inform him about our experience at SOL and transportation ordeal to the Wolgan Valley. We had the first of several wonderful meals, which the chef always offered or modified to meet our fish and vegetarian needs. The bartender was excellent with his drinks and once, when he heard us rave about our Australian fish dinner, arranged for the chef to save the last two orders for the next night. What a pleasant surprise. We had a wonderful stay, going on a few of their tours and using the spa services, but mostly relaxing and enjoying the magnificent natural surroundings. Joost was never intrusive, but always interested in seeing that all our needs were being met. When we got ready to leave, we were told that our driver was the last car to get through before the second road out was closed due to the worst brush fire in 45 years. The reception staff assured us that our suite would be available if we could not leave that day and she called the reservations manager at the Four Seasons, Sydney, to let him know our status. We were able to leave 2 1/2 hours later, arriving during the evening rush hour. Our driver (Adel) to Sydney was excellent.

This is a wonderful resort and demands at least three nights staying so you can do all of the eco attractions, spa and dining experiences.

Beautifully appointed accommodation with fire and plunge pool. Views, restaurant and cheese room with cellar. Don't miss the vegetarian degustation menu and the included wines are perfect.

Driving down to the entrance to Wolgan Valley you begin to appreciate the incredible location. It is a mini escarpment just like the Blue Mountains, but your own personal one in a tranquil valley. The rooms are beautifully appointed with everything you could need. Lunch in the cafe was really great. Dinner in the dining room was also very good, if a bit stuffy. The food was very good, but I did think it was a bit tortured, in the old fashioned fine dining style. I thought the food in the dining room could have been relaxed a bit - maybe have a special of the night - or some dishes designed to share. Wines were very good and service consistently excellent. Overall, a great escape from Sydney.

We left Sydney with high expectations of our weekend at Wolgan Valley.....after descending down into the valley and arriving at the main gate the experience began. The service is exemplary, nothing is too much trouble. The bungalows are beautiful - cosy gas fires, comfortable sofas. The food is a highlight - after canapés and drinks by the fire, we had the 6 course degustation both nights - divine.
The beauty of the place is the location - looking out over the valley and silence! There are plenty of activities but we enjoyed walking.
The only downside - 2 nights wasn't enough!
A must to visit!

With a bucket list to stay at as many of the 17 Luxury Lodges of Australia (3 to date), Wolgan Valley deserves its spot on the list. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we were made to feel special. Great food and wine. Great service. Spectacular location.

We spend two nights here for our 10th wedding anniversary and it was outstanding. The pick-up at the gates started the stay in the right frame with wallabies and kangaroos greeting us on our drive in. A couple of glasses of fizz at reception during the efficient check-in and then a quick tour of the main parts of the property culminating in our 'suite' with it's fire, indoor plunge pool and walk-in closet lager than some hotel rooms we've stayed in.

The food was excellent, the service always excellent but un-pushy an unobtrusive and the included wines of a high standard.

We did a few of the included activities, including the night drive, seeing wombats and possums and the hint of platypuses in the creek (with a suggestion from the guide that a couple of hours wrapped up in a blanket with a glass of wine and you might be lucky and see one yourself). The glow worm tunnel was also an excellent walk from the property and everything was extremely well organised with a small back pack with radio to contact the hotel for pick up, brownies and apples to keep the energy up of breakfast seemed too far away.

Thoroughly recommended for a special occasion. My wife did not want to leave.

We loved our stay at wolgan valley. The service was fantastic, even if a little bland. Being Australian my husband and I enjoy chatting with staff, their answers were all very impersonal. We disliked having to wait for a transfer to our room, especially after calling 20 minutes prior to arrival, but once we arrived it was hard to be unhappy! Lunch was great, we are by no means foodies and enjoyed the selections. Having only been there for an hour or so we had been constantly given Chardonnay and it was topped up so fast. I prefer a sav blanc but this was never offered. At dinner we requested some and it was no problem. My only complaint here is that this 'included wine' cost us $50 when we had it delivered with our room service the night prior but was free again at our lunchtime picnic?????
One thing that did stand out was their willingness to make us happy. On the first night we wanted room service but we didn't like anything in the menu. We asked if we could just have some nachos and were told they'd make us a big plate for two.... It was delicious but tiny! The next day we spoke to the manager prior to dinner and we were asked what kind of food we liked, we said basic food, no eel or duck... They told us to return at 4pm and they'd have some options for us. By 3:30 the manager found us and showed us our own personalised menu offering soup, risotto, chicken, beef and vegetables. We were thrilled! Service was fantastic.
We are already planning our next trip!
Oh and the 16km bike ride was very difficult, the terrain was rocky and at times very steep- we were so glad we did it, the views were excellent but be prepared!
If they were to fix something- enforce the no children in the dinning room after 7:30, perhaps tell parents at the start of their stay and open up the cafe for them- a more appropriate setting.

Room Tip: The private rooms have a steep walk up to the main house.
