“A top restaurant”
Reviewed 6 April 2014

We had an excellent dinner worthy of Michelin recognition. In many smaller restaurants its hard to produce 3 great courses but Duncan achieves this.
The accomodation is homely and breakfast outstanding.
Anthea's hospitality and warmth of welcome is hard to beat.
Having stayed 3 times to date we will be back

“FABULOUS DINNER”
Reviewed 23 March 2014

Well Duncan and Anthea came up trumps again. Outstanding dinner and service at the Old Inn - we wouldn't expect anything less! Many thanks to you both. The Hojsgaards.

“Despite the good food we won't be recommending it to others due to the disappointing customer service”
Reviewed 9 March 2014

If you are going for lunch (set menu £29.50) take care not to take up the proprietor's offer of alternative dishes from the dinner menu (£46.50). We were charged the full £46.50 for having a different starter to the two on the lunch menu, despite taking mains and pud from lunch menu. We queried the £17 additional charge for a single different starter and after some haggling our bill was eventually reduced from £182 to £180 - a mere £2!

Well another first time reviewer who did not get what they wanted so used Tripadvisor as a tool of revenge! (oooh look a first time reviewer)
Nineteen excellent reviews then one from somebody who cannot understand how menu pricing works, it is very common practice in restaurants that as soon as you eat from the more expensive menu that you are charged the full price of that menu, you were given both menus again at pudding so could have had one of the more elaborate puds but chose the passion fruit souffle.
So your inexperience of prix fixe menu pricing caused the problem, we appear not to have had a pricing problem before.

“A nice surprise”
Reviewed 10 October 2013

firstly there seem to be two entries for the same place, The Old Inn and Old Inn!

I visited Drewsteignton some years back and stayed at the Drewe Arms, we read the sorry history of this lovely pub in Trip Advisor but also noticed it was now open again so we hoped to stay. It is open but not for accommodation yet so we walked across the road and checked into the Old Inn.

The room we had was fine, it had a king sized bed, nice bathroom and WiFi, I therefore disagree with the previous reviewer, this is a restaurant with rooms, not a hotel so you should not expect too much although at £100 a night it is a little dear.

The food of course, as you can see from all the other reviews, was excellent, my only criticism is that there is only one red and one white wine available by the glass, my wife did not want to drink and I did not want a whole bottle so this did limit the options.

So if you want some very good food in nice friendly surroundings the The Old Inn is the place to go.

“Fantastic; simply fantastic.”
Reviewed 23 September 2013

From the moment the door opened as we approached to be welcomed by our enigmatic host, this delightful restaurant provided an outstanding night out. Set in an old Inn (as the name might suggest) with dining rooms filling previous rooms, you walk in to the reception hall and enjoy a drink in front of a log fire whilst your table is prepared. The food was just superb, genuine breathtaking brilliance. Everything was cooked to perfection from scallops and fish to sweetbreads and ox tail. The dessert of plate of raspberry was in itself a true show stopper - worth the trip alone. Whilst we did not stay here I dare say this is also a fabulous experience. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough, it may well be a little off the beaten track but that makes it all the more welcome. I would drive for many hours to get back here (although would probably stay over because the wine was also extremely good!). In terms of quality of food and indeed service, for the price paid, I think this restaurant would be very difficult to better.
