Greeted with a beautiful rum punch cocktail, minus the rum in the open air reception area that has a simple tropical feel with rattan furniture, stamped and stained concrete flooring and island maps on the wall. Already the constant "boom" "boom" was waring on us. Next we were escorted to our room. Expecting a cool room (Air-conditioned) we were led into a warm room with shudders that opened to the beach with the ocean waves crashing beyond. "boom" "boom" "boom" "boom" "boom" After a long hot day of traveling, then the discovery of less than adequate air conditioning a cool shower was in order. What began as a relaxing way to cool off quickly became gross and frustrating. The thin shower curtain continually blew in and stuck to my legs. The seams in the shower were lined with mold and mildew (see attached photo). "boom" "boom" That night, the "nice" restaurant closed without notice. So the only place to have dinner was in the bar. The food was good, but expensive. The music was loud and inappropriate. "boom" "boom" "boom" Ok, I finally had to ask..."What is the constant "boom" "boom" I keep hearing off in the distance?" "Oh! There is a Father's Day celebration in town" the manager said. "boom" "boom" "boom" The bass on the music was so loud one could feel it to their bones. It went on and on and on. All day...all night...at least past when we went to bed at around 10 pm. For Father's Day I can forgive and forget, but this routine continued each night of our stay. The "pristine" beach could use some attention as well. Giant clumps of seaweed accumulated. Although I did see a man raking the beach one day, it never seemed clean. "boom" While service throughout all the hotel was exemplary...the bartenders at the beach bar seemed bothered by any requests. I heard one of them tell a customer that "getting you some iced tea would be difficult" Surprising! It's the first non-alcoholic beverage listed on the beach bar menu. "boom" "boom" "boom" All in all the Tamarind Beach Hotel and Yacht Club is not a good value at all. "BOOM"

Pros: Lovely character wooden rooms overlooking the beach. Friendly hotel staff. Beautiful island.

Cons: Sometimes get noisy yachts offshore. And bumpy ferry ride!

This was our favourite place in the Caribbean, of ten islands visited on honeymoon. The hotel has a very relaxed and laid back atmosphere, and friendly staff who are willing to do anything to make your stay pleasant (they can arrange transport & transfers if you're struggling to work out how to get there!)

Views from the room (we had ground floor so walked out onto the beach) were simply beautiful. And great food in the restaurant (try the tropical fruit platter - and if you're brave the strong rum punch cocktail at the beach bar!)

If you're making your own travel arrangements I'd advise flying with SVG - we flew one way & tried out the ferry back but it was a really rough trip which sounds quite common.

Also we'd recommend hiring a golf buggy for the day to explore the island and 'Twin Bay' on the other side of the island - basically an amazing deserted beach to yourself for the day!

Room Tip: I'd go ground floor so you can walk right onto the beach!

Although a belated review I think it is well worth highlighting this idyllic getaway for those seeking peace and tranquility in a beautiful setting. I have stayed at this charming hotel a number of times in the past year and the cottage style rooms right on the beach are clean and comfortable. The shuttered doors open onto a small terrace or balcony and when open the shutters allow a great natural breeze into the rooms. A large fan or A/C can also be used, although I'm not a big fan of A/C running all night and find the fan gives adequate cooling.

The staff here are very helpful and friendly and both restaurants offer a varied menu and have an extensive choice of beverages. The pasta dishes are particularly good.

The Grenadines really are worth exploring as each island has its own charm. Canouan is linked with Barbados, Grenada, St Vincent and other islands in the Grenadines by Grenadines Air Alliance and LIAT. Alternatively, SVG (part of the Grenadines Air Alliance) offer private charters.

We stayed here one night prior to boarding our boat booked thru Moorings. The rooms were lovely. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. The ocean breezes come right thru the plantation shutters (which are lined with screens -nice touch) and there is A/C as well and the bathroom was large. Taking into consideration this is a remote island hotel I was very much impressed knowing how hard it is to get things on these islands (like a replacement remote for a TV - our remote was broken - but who could watch TV with a view like theirs).
Only thing I would have thought they would have was a pool which they do not but the ocean is steps from the rooms.

My husband and I were vacationing in Barbados, but arranged a very special overnight trip to the Grenadines.

We booked our trip through Chantours in Barbados. They handled every part of getting to the Grenadines, and were a wonderful company to work with.

It took a bit of flying to get to Canuoan, but it was well worth it. From Barbados we flew to Grenada than to Canuoan, and the return to Barbados was flew to Bequia, then St. Vincent then to BGI.
When we arrived in Canuoan were met at the airport by a taxi that took us to the Tamarind Beach Hotel and Yacht Club. The ride from the airport to the hotel was about 8 minutes. We were greeted with friendly faces and a cool drink in the beautiful open air lobby, and check in was a breeze. We were shown to our room #113 and went right into relaxation mode. We actually took a quick taxi tour of Canuoan, which took about an hour, but was worth seeing. It is a beautiful place. The water is a million shades of blue that you have to see to believe.

The hotel is incredibly beautiful and romantic, especially in the evening. The landscaping is full of tropical flowers and palm trees, very beautiful. The hotel is small, uncrowded, and the perfect place to go and relax. Our room was wonderful! Very clean, and comfortable. I loved that one whole wall was plantation shutters that could be opened at night. It was heavenly to drift to sleep listening to the waves wash up on the beach. The beach was about 20 steps from our room, it couldn't have been any more beach front. The room also has the option to have airconditioning if you want it, which we did and the room was very comfortable. We ate dinner at the hotel, which was delicious. Breakfast was included in our rate, and it was delicious as well. The beach at the Tamarind is absolute paradise. Palm trees and warm CRYSTAL clear water. The pictures on the internet do not do it justice.
I found the staff to be extremely friendly and polite, always smiling. It was a pleasure to stay at the Tamarind.
We went on a day sail to the Tobago Cays the next day, stopping in Mayreau, ( Salt Whistle Bay), and the Tobago cays. The yacht picked us up right at the hotel, and the daysail was absolutely spectacular! I can not put into words just how beautiful the Grenadines are, it truly is aplace you have to experience. The water is neon blue, the island are beautiful, and the sea life is quite nice. There are turtles all over the Tobago Cays, which is a marine park.
My only complaint about our trip to the Tamarind/Grenadines is that we did not stay longer.
It does take a bit of work to get there, but completely worth it.
I can not wait to return to the Tamarind again someday.
