Economou Mansion
Ranked #1 of 7 Spetses Town B&B and Inns
Reviewed 25 June 2014

We stayed at Economou Mansion earlier this month with two friends from the UK and neither of us had ever stayed there before so didn't really know what to expect. I have to say this was such a wonderful surprise. The hotel is so charming with two feet thick walls and period furniture. It is right across from the ocean and about a 10 minute stroll from the marina where all the boats come in, including the ferries.

The floors leading up to and inside the Mansion are made of small rocks in different designs.
There is a walled garden and in there live three tortoises of varying size and we enjoyed visiting them every day with a piece of fruit from breakfast.

Speaking of breakfast; this was served every day in another part of the garden around the pool by a wonderful man named Manos. Every day it was a little different but included a warm dish, cold cuts, cheese, fruit, yoghurt, bread and always something sweet to follow. I have had breakfast at many places but this was one of the best.

The staff are so friendly; we were picked up and taken to the hotel from the ferry and then returned to the ferry on our last day on Spetses before leaving for Poros. The whole experience could not have been better.

I would recommend this place to anyone travelling to Spetses, you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: There are now two new suites that they have opened upstairs with balconies so I gather the views are...

A converted Greek Mansion. What does that look like? Economou, simple.
Arrived at Spetses Port and walking up around the the pebbled cafés spotted The Yachting Club. You really need to book in there first, luckily as we booked in transport arrived and ferried us from the office straight to Economou.
From the moment you step through the first gate you feel at home. We had a front downstairs bedroom overlooking the sea. My only pernickety complaint is with my old age eyes, the light in our room could have been a tad brighter. That really is how good I thought it was. Room was excellent with hot water at all times and a hook to hold the shower head. Not always the case throughout Greece.
Manos serves breakfast. You don't really get a choice , but that is part of the charm of the hotel. Manos brings your individual tray. Complete with the hot breakfast dish of the day. Also fresh juice fresh fruit and Greek yoghurt cheese and cold meats. Almost forgot to mention the homemade cakes. I believe Anna makes these fresh everyday. Cake for breakfast you may well ask. Don't knock it until you've tried it. All served outside by the side of the pool, which burbles away very merrily. Added bonus of feeding the sparrows who know their targets. But wait, save something for the tortoises running wild in the garden. They are voracious.
The building is very traditional and they have tried very hard to maintain and retain the character and feel of the original building in a very good way.
Suffice it to say, I could have stayed in the building and small courtyard for my whole stay.

As ever the crucial question, would we go back? Like a shot. If we go back to Spetses, despite the 2 large and impressive hotels just along the sea front , we would only consider Economou Mansion. All the people involved in the Yacht Club Office, the Yacht Club shop and Ecnomou Mansion itself really cannot do enough for you. Please go there and give them your support, if you don't you really have no idea of what you are missing. Enjoy

Room Tip: The sea view rooms attract a premium but the other rooms overlook the gardens and pool and that real...

Upon arrival I felt as if I had stepped back in time, the walkway is pebbles all cemented into the ground in beautiful patterns. My room had a big comfortable bed with crisp clean linens, the original wooden ceiling was intact and beautifully preserved. The size of the room was very nice with a sitting area, and a mini fridge for that late night snack. The grounds were very well kept, olive trees, white plaster walls on the walkway sprinkled with terra cotta pots filled with flowers. The pool was crystal clear, and sat next to the original old well. The breakfast was really wonderful as well, a variety of fresh food, fruits, eggs, jam, cakes, too much to eat! The service staff was very kind and helpful and they have a special treat upon arrival. You can get a ride to and from the hotel from the Yachting Club Tourism office to the light of the dock when the ferry lets you off.

Be sure and go into the office area and see the rest of the house, it's really a nice preservation and restoration to modern standards. The old stone floors worn with wear are still there,

Very nice place I'd like to return.

Stayed here in September for the 'Armata Festival'. This mansion is in a fantastic location, on the sea front and peaceful surroundings. Very well renovated and very clean, tidy and comfortable.
Delicious breakfasts and very friendly staff!
Highly recommend.
The week long festival was fabulous especially the burning of the ship and the firework display on the last day.......never seen anything like it!!
Most certainly we will go back again.

This place is a jewel and I wish to come back. The house is fabulous, a great example of the mansions of the captains and people alike that were living in the island. It has been very nicely preserved, with an understated elegance.
Our room was large, comfortable. The bathroom was somehow strange, included in the room in a weird way, however, it was clean and felt like the inside of an old boat and didn't disturb the architecture of the room.
The pool area is a delight. We usually never use the pool anywhere, especially with the sea close by. However, we did pass by this one and it was a fabulous place to read, quiet and beautiful.
The breakfast is very good, large and full of things. Every day you get something new and excellent.
To get to the center you just need to walk a little bit close to sea, but they pick you up when you arrive and also give you a ride the day you leave.
The staff is extremely nice and helpful.
I very much recommend it.
