My partner and I have just returned from Rookery manor spa and retreat.
First impressions were great... you enter through big electric gates in a big court yard to park! When we reached reception we were warmly greeted by a lovely lady at check in. We went straight to our room, which the pictures do not do it justice. Was very roomy, with a large bathroom and kingsize bed. It had beautiful porthole windows and lovely wooden beams in our room. The room was tastefully decoraed and spotlessly clean. No complaints from us!
The food at the bistro was lovely... the other half even commented it was the nicest starter he had ever had. The evening waitress was very friendly, and willing to do anything to keep us happy Lovely traditional home cooking, at very reasonable prices.
We stayed for 2 nights, and anything we asked for wasn't any trouble at all (we asked for jugs of water with ice for the room both nights and an ice bucket) and everything was done with a smile.
We visited the spa twice during our stay, and also had treatments. The spa was very relaxing and quiet which was exactly what we wanted.
Overall, we had a fantastic time at Rookery Manor and would definitely return. I was a little apprehensive about staying here after some of the reviews, but we really did have a lovely time. I would recommend this hotel to anybody looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway in beautiful surroundings (forgot to mention how stunning the grounds are!!!!!)

I went here for the day to use the facilities and didn't have any treatments for the cost of £20pp, it's a clean little place which is great for a bit of relaxation.

The hydro pool is a nice size and was warm, there are a few steps leading up to it which was a bit slippery but still nice and clean.

There was also a small sauna, I would say for about 2 people which was nice and relaxing.

We used the outdoor hot tub which was amazing, the relaxation room and then the massage chairs.

There was also a bar that you could get drinks from.

All in all I would go back and would say that you have to try it :)

Rookery Manor is okay overall. Good things - comfortable bed, extremely friendly staff both in the hotel and spa, nice breakfast, enjoyable spa, good value for money. A few niggles; room was too hot with no apparent means of controlling it (other than opening the window; various dishes on the menu unavailable, both for dinner and breakfast; overpriced wine; and although they are owned by the same person, the hotel and spa are separate businesses so I had to trudge quite a distance from the spa to my room and back to fetch my credit cards and pay for treatments. Average, but I would stay again.

Like other reviews very impressed by entrance and size of car park! First room we were offered in main house was far too hot, offered a ground floor room apparently as an upgrade, 4 poster bed and jacuzzi bath, very nice till we went to bed and there was an unbearable buzzing coming from the other side of the wall, my husband tried to phone reception, went out to reception but we discovered there is no night receptionist! Not sure what happens in case of emergency!
After a sleepless night we told the receptionist we would pay for the food we had eaten but not the room, she arranged for the duty manager aka the owner to speak to us, he agreed not to charge us and moved us again, at last a room with no buzzing and no traffic noise (turned out the noise was from a fridge in the adjacent marquee).
Food in restaurant ok but they can't handle more than 2 tables at a time! Second night half the menu was not available, our first choice was apparently not fit to serve, so we opted for the salmon which arrived uncooked and had obviously come out of the freezer, we were very disappointed and would not stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: Avoid main house.

Upon arrival, the magnificent frontage and immaculate gardens were accessed by automatic gates - all very impressive and wow! The check-in procedure was excellent, seamless, and with a free upgrade (reasons become apparent!) was offered, Room 10 (Tin) was a super room with jacuzzi bath, multi jet shower cubicle, and comfortable size - with views over the gardens. With a poignant song in the background (from a wedding celebration) things were looking good.

The check in lady asked if we would like dinner 'as they were very busy'. We reserved a table.

Myself and my partner then used the wonderful hydrotherapy pool - the Spa was great. After a shower and change, we then went to the restaurant (which was open for us!) for evening meal. Still, everything was pretty good, no criticisms.

However, I couldn't have a pint! They don't serve them - just bottles, served in a half pint glass, fo £3.20! I did go for a Magners, which came in a pint glass, but it was warm!! The food was good, generally, but the service was peculiar. There was just not enough attention. The time for the drinks to come, the time for the tables to be cleared - it just didn't match the first impressions we had. And in respect of 'we are busy tonight' - three tables were occupied in the time we were in the restaurant. (Looking at previous reviews, three tables is clearly busy as it seems that the restaurant is normally closed for normal paying guests)

And then there was breakfast... the free for all! Just bizarre...When one stays in a B&B/Hotel there is usually that uncertainty as to how breakfast works... We waited to be seated. And waited. I then asked if we could have a table, and we were curtly told 'yes'. Due to a large party, the tables had been moved to accommodate them, and the rest didn't seem to matter. The remaining tables were scattered unkemptly, and many were uncleared from previous guests. We sat and again were uncertain as to 'What Happens Next'. There were people, generally, who clearly didn't know what was happening, and to be fair to the staff that were 'attending', it probably would have been more organised if they weren't there. The breakfast hot 'buffet' was served in a manner that 'slop' would have been (albeit the food was generally very nice!), and whilst the 'server' advised me of the plates being 'a bit hot', my partner wasn't. (Look at the plate, the skin may still be on the underside!) At ten o clock (end of breakfast 'open' period), there was perhaps a trap door which swallowed the staff - they just disappeared...

Sadly, the waiting staff were mature ladies whom I would expect traditional 'old fashioned' standards - but instead we got the service that I would expect from a younger person in their first job, with no life skills.

Hence, the free upgrade initially was - I feel - to keep us sweet! The customer '(dis)service' within the restaurant was such a disappointment to such a beautiful place with SO much potential. There is clearly a changeover of staff, or staff that just aren't happy, and it lets the place down so badly. The management need to sort this issue out and understand that - whilst weddings are obviously a big earner - don't forget about the other paying guests of your industry.

Room Tip: Don't go for the Junior Suite, ask for Room 10 (Tin). Stunning jacuzzi bath and enough space.
